News / WOSP in Poland [161]

In the end, does it really matter? We pay the taxes, and now we (or at least i do) give money to WOSP.

If the government would do this, i'd probably be a bureaucratic mess to begin with. Plus now its a "thing" once a year. People get out, think about why they are there and in the end give more this way i think.

As long as it works, i dont see a problem with it. That its an exceptional way of handling things is definitely true, but you have to keep in mind that Poland had to keep busy with other things that other parts of Europe for a long time. Cant blame them.

USA, Canada / Car Export from USA / Canada to Poland [30]

First you have an import tax for importing from outside of EU, and then around 19% (when i did it last year it was 18.8%) of the car's value on registration tax/fee. In short, i think you'll be (much) better of buying yourself one of those here.

Not sure if you are moving from one country to the other, and already have your car for over a year? Then it might be imported as "moving goods" which is a waiver for many taxes.

Yes, the tax is based on the value of the car, but.... For 2.0 and below its 2.2%, for 2.0 and above its 18.8% of the cars value.

And that is AFTER you pay the tax for importing a car from outside the EU. Im not aware of how high that tax is, but i can assure you its going to be a lot

Work / What Jobs are there in Poland for an Englishman besides teaching english? [70]

The endless discussion.....

In my 2 years of working in Poland, speaking Polish has literally been useful for me 0 times.
Sure, ONLY speaking English is somewhat of a handicap on the jobmarket because many Polish people do too, but speaking any other European language besides English and Polish is way more lucrative than many university degree in Poland.

Mind you, i can imagine if you want to work as an English teacher for Polish people, speaking their language might make it easier to explain things. But seeing as this is a topic about NOT being a teacher, speaking Polish is in the professional area very useless in my opinion. In your private life, sure, it might be helpful. But its not like you're not gonna be able to get around without it.

And so do middle tier, and upper tier jobs in international corporations that are simply here for the low wages, but dont actually do anything in Polish. But if you've never been there, its probably hard to understand.

If you werent such a bigot i'd invite you over for a company visit some day so you could see for yourself, unfortunately you are and i no longer work in Poland

@delphiandomine
You think its an insult, but in reality i wish that was the case!

No no, im the "have a great job back home but lets move to Poland to live together with some pretty blonde"-type. Much more stupid indeed.

My Polish is actually not bad. I wasnt discussing my personal Polish, but the experience i had with it.

A salary as suggested in your post i've luckily never had to settle for. I cannot imagine surviving on that.

Real "Poles" are also a lot friendlier than this Forum suggests. I'll be back there very regularly and surely wont sell my house! Who knows i might move back there some day.

Law / Car registration in Poland (bought a car from Holland on a temporary license) [25]

I have imported multiple vehicles from Netherlands to Poland (im from Netherlands).

Taxation is as you say, i believe 2.2% under 2liter and 18.8% over that (might be off by 0.something% as i think they change every now and then)

For me it went okay with the value on the sales contract most of the times, and once they did not agree on the value (even though i never messed with the contracts, but it was lower as the car had slight rear damage).

Anyways, since the car was a hybrid with very low emission/engine size the difference in taxation they wanted was less than 200zl, not worth the bother to fight it.

Then there's about 260zl of costs to get your license plates and stuff.

I've all but 1 time, used a company that did all the work for me. In total it cost me 350zl for the company and about 150zl for getting the necessary documents officially translated.

I highly recommend using one of these companies unless you want to go super-cheap about it, but as you're not Polish im gonna guess your Polish is not good enough to get through the official instances. They do not speak English, nor are they in my experience lenient towards helping you in English in any way.

The one time i didnt use the company but a Polish speaking friend, it took much, much more time and hassle.

I am aware Lyzko, that was exactly what i was pointing out!

The company that does the work for you though, tend to at least try to communicate with you one way or another, since you are paying them for their services.

That's why i suggested him to use this kind of service. In my opinion its either not getting your car registered, or paying 350zl for a company to do it for you. Easy choice!

p.s. if you're looking in NL, remember that cars post-october 2006 that show a lower export price than normal selling price, you will need to leave a Deposit (usually somewhere between 500 and 1500 euro) which you will get back after you've registered the car in Poland and sent a scan or copy of the papers to the company you bought the car from. It has nothing to do with scamming, but with Tax-return purposes in Netherlands.

The export price can only be given if the car will be registered in another EU country, and a copy of the new registration is send in to the dutch Tax office. Hence this deposit companies ask for.

@Lyzko
What do you mean we get a better deal? If you mean the tax refund - its just a partial refund of the 20-25% "eco tax" we pay on top of the normal price of a new car unfortunately.... and the only good deal is for the foreignera taking the cars away :p

@above here: belgium mainly has great prices on the smaller-engined cars as theyre lighter taxed there. Plus they have, like NL, a great mileage registration system (car-pass its called). Quite safe to buy a car with car pass, trusting it has the right mileage :)

Life / Cost of converting cars in Poland to left-hand drive [58]

Buddy, if it was that easy all your UK cars would already be here, converted and for sale.

Only the parts you'll need for your 987 will set you back over 10k pln, plus the labour by a good mechanic will be a neverending search. They've all moved abroad.

But yeah, kicking a 9 year old topic will make you believe you found a pot of gold.
