Food / Where can I buy lamb in Poland? [89]

Sounds like you've got bad withdrawal symptoms. Hope you get your fix soon.

I found lamb in two shops in Hala Targowa. 30zl/kilo.

I suppose this is frozen. Bit late in the season for fresh lamb, unless it's imported, in which case this price sounds on the low side. If it's mutton, it sounds a bit high.

Duck boy would simply never allow a coalition to be formed with people he's had thrown out of the party.

I wonder just how tight a grip JK has on the party. Before now and the election (relative) moderates within PiS might wake up to the fact that he is nothing but an anachronism and a liability and get rid of him. As it stands, PiS is destined to remain howling from the periphery until he's gone anyway.

I hear a lot about a crisis in Poland these days. For me, as a foreigner who has made his home in Poland, I find the use of this word a little hyperbolic in the current circumstances.

A crisis, for me, is when there is imminent danger of economic or social collapse. A crisis is when the military parks tanks outside parliament. Or when there is hyperinflation and people starve in the streets. Perhaps I should refer to wikipedia to find a better definition, but I prefer to trust my half-century of experience.

Poland is a relatively stable European country which enjoys the membership, and through its membership, of the mutually agreed protection of other member states, not to mention NATO.

From where I sit, well fed, not too badly off, half cut, to be honest, I can't see a crisis. Maybe I should buy a TV.

We are talking about the crisis in 2014,

A crisis in 2014? Thanks for telling me, PF Delphic Oracle. It must be amazing to be able to see into the future!

Now we are experiencing a mere slow down.

I know the feeling. I'm knackered.
Time to obey my nagging wife, "Haven't you had enough? Come to bed! Bloody forum!"

PRINCETON, NJ -- Just 34% of Americans think U.S. President Barack Obama is a Christian, while 44% say they don't know Obama's religion and 11% say he is a Muslim

Given that 40% of Americans believe that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old, that doesn't surprise me in the least.

Certain law here which comes direct from the Catholic church would make me a criminal if I did what I want to do (something legal in the rest of Europe).

Intriguing. Racking my brains!

Love / How do guys from Poland flirt? [47]

Whenever I greet him he puts on this huge smile, looks me in the eyes and quickly looks downwards.

So he obviously likes you.

While working out he keeps on catching my eye, although I was trying real hard not to reveal my intrest.

Why not. Women!
He's shy, that's all. I thought you cloggies were a bit more forward. Ask him if he knows a good place to get a sandwich, something like that, then ask him to show you where it is. The cafe I mean.

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1400]

I've just done 24 hours' teaching in the last three days ( and five hours' drinking in the last five hours) so forgive me if I've misunderstood. Pickled herrings with smalec? You must have the tastebuds of a bison.

I'm just jealous. I have the same problem as Falstaff ("A plague o' those pickled herring") I love pickles but they don't love me. But the makers of Rennie do.

jon. If you are the same jon that washes his hair in Ludwig, I am fully prepared to believe you eat herring with smalec.

Thanks for performing the service so that the rest of us evil liberals don't have to have our blood pressure raised by the misogynists.

The comments we can see above, about wishing people dead, or calling you a quasi-human show these people in their true colours. They are the type that rejoice when staff at abortion clinics are murdered.

Take it easy and have a good day.

UK, Ireland / Advantages of living in Poland as opposed to the UK. [126]

I know one guy who has never worked a day in his life and gets at least 30000 quid a year.

Do you mean that he is paid 2500GBP/month in social security payments? How does that break down, e.g. housing benefit, unemployment benefit, etc?

He know his way around the benefit system and knows how to use it to his full advantage.

Ah, well, if he's milking the system illegally, then the figure of 30k/annum is the fruits of fraud. Roz seems to have a more realistic handle on what's going on.

The abortionist mentality is a plot to depopulate the West.

Would that be by the Zionist Occupation Government or aliens?

If he doesn't agree and is willing to raise the child then she should not be allowed to abort.

This would possibly mean imprisoning the woman and forcing her to go through with the delivery, including physically restraining her in a locked room. If she were to be very uncooperative about other people's decisions concerning her own body, chemical restraints might be deemed appropriate while preparing to cut her open to effect a Caesarian section. Happy with that?

you make the decision to have sex and are not careful,

It's not always as simple as that. But OK, if you're content to imprison pregnant women, and approve of invasive medical intervention against the woman's will, that's your right. I just hope, under your rules, your daughter is never taken away screaming to the prison hospital.

You can make it seem so complicated but it's not

It is sometimes very complicated. Child abuse, rape, drunk and incapable of making an informed choice, mentally incompetent, etc.

how it would guarantee a c section I have no idea

How else would you effect delivery in a totally uncooperative woman?

The woman can be put under and once it's over it's over

Under anaesthetic? Against her will, right? Set aside the morality, do you understand the legal implications for all this?

to say this will always happen;you can't

I didn't. Obviously some women could be persuaded. I'm talking about the hard cases.

How exactly is it prison?

If you detain a sane person against their will, it can hardly be called freedom.

You didn't answer my question as to why a man shouldn't be allowed to have a say.

Yes, a man is entitled to his say. No, he is not entitled to sign a paper which may give him rights superior to the rights of the woman. It's her body; what goes on inside it is for her to decide. That's where I stand. I guess we'll have to agree to differ.

Not as far as I know, although it is entirely possible that women in Poland are, let's say, coerced into doing something they do not want to do.

The disagreement I had with p3 was that I suggested that his argument, reductio ad absurdum, would lead to a woman being effectively imprisoned and forced to complete the term of a pregnancy. The moral and legal consequences do not exist at the moment, but under p3's scenario they would.

My stance remains that a woman should ultimately have the final say in what happens to, and within, her own body.

conscious and voluntary renunciation of their own fertility is a fundamental human right.

Gabi was talking about the UK.
There seems to be an unwritten consensus in the UK under which doctors are extremely unwilling to sterilise women of child-bearing age, especially healthy, sane unmarried women.

He is far more likely to get on with an *honest* tory Posh Boy than some pretend *man of the people* on the pretend Left......

I remember hearing Denis Skinner speak at the Durham Miners' Gala years ago. He launched into a withering and very funny tirade against Tony Blair. A real old English socialist who practises what he preaches.

Tony Blair

Now I think about it, it was Neil Kinnock. I must be older than I thought.

So go watch a 6-week ultrasound scan, see the little bean jumping up and down with life, and say it isn't alive.

Is it a little bean or a little baby?
I don't want to trawl through pages and pages of emotional breast-beating again so I may have missed the anti-choice lobby's views on IVF, a procedure in which some fertilised eggs are discarded.

Yes, the embryo has life, and I believe it's the woman's right to choose what to do with her own body, including terminating that life. Anything else puts a bundle of cells over the rights of a woman.
