USA, Canada / Polish-American criminals [70]

Actually very few Pol-Ams are on this site, most are expat Poles living in America.

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

It is in all the countries Britain has exported its boorish idiotic binge-drinking culture to. Therefore, Ireland, America and Australia.

Baloney. That behavior has nothing to do with Australians, Irish or Americans. The English don't travel well, they become quite demanding outside of their own country.

Love / Polish Women Versus Your Local Women ? [289]

Polish women do not have a reputation in the US, good or bad.

Biggest difference between English and Polish women? For better or worse with the English, What you see is what you get. With the Polish what you see is NOT what you get.

News / Polish People STILL denied US Entry [96]

Since the Poles aren't wanted in the UK we should take them off their hands. Heck they could repopulate Detroit.

Life / K+M+B-2012 - formula on flats in Poland [63]

I was raised in a devout Polish Catholic household and neighborhood in Chicago and I can't say I ever seen that inscription above the door. As for the secularist, materialistic scum, these are your fellow human beings. The foundation of Christianity is charity, something the Roman Church conveniently forgets.

no. it would mean that the Polish government tells the USA to keep their refusal rate high enough to keep them out of the VWP

This is probably the reason why. It doesn't make sense for the USofA to treat Poland differently.

From their point of view it makes no difference whereas Poles migrate to the EU country or the USA? What gives ?

Because the Polish Government cannot control Poles immigrating to the EU but they have a good relationship with the US Government.

In the UK though, Poles are still looked at as "different".

Very True. Most Americans' roots are English, Scot, Irish, German/Polish. Many immigrants in the 19th century thought to be German were actually Polish.

Language / Polish language would look better written in Cyrillic Script? [212]

Cyrillic was Poland's first alphabet but Poland made a move to use the latin alphabet as Poland has always looked West. In fact Poland is the furthest eastern country of "Western Europe", it's not "Eastern Europe".

water made people sick.

Before the development of water purification systems wine, beer and spirits were originally used to purify water. Plastic Pole is correct.

Uh, kindly leave the good ol U.S. of A outta this, man. We don't need your brand of representation.

Do you know how Americans define Freedom? Read the first ten amendments of the Bill of Rights.

This whole VISA thing is weird. Does Obama really need Congressional approval for this visa thingy for Poland? I would think it's a foreign policy issue and reserved for the Secretary of State.

Language / Polish language would look better written in Cyrillic Script? [212]

Nonsense. Cyrillic was never used in Poland.

I was in school at the time of the "Polish Millennium" and I was taught that the King of Poland at the time (Mieszko?) made a conscious effort for Poland to use the Latin alphabet and follow the Roman Catholic Church. He did this for political and social reasons. He wanted Poland to become Westernized. I thought that the previous alphabet was Cyrillic as that what accounts for the apostrophe's over the Polish letters and I thought I read something as much over the internet but I can't find it, so I might be wrong (can it be?).

Life / Are Poles mentally more Eastern European or Western European? [170]

After WWII communism was considered a legitimate alternative to capitalism by the intelligentsia. There were lots of Polish communists although they deny it now. If Poland would have insisted on participating in the Marshall Plan what would Stalin have done?

UK, Ireland / There's not a lot wrong with Poles in the UK. There's just too many of them. [72]

Keep it civil, please.

Good girl

oxon, to see where your country is, you have to know where it's been. Here, start with this article and check some of the hot links below and it will describe the problem (Polish immigration is the symptom not the problem). BTW, your statement that Poles have a pleasant disposition...naaa they work too hard to have that.

News / Coal-Powered Poland Refuses to "Go Green". EU Ain't Happy. [304]

What Poland should be doing is using their coal and converting it into natural gas. This would make her power plants burn pollution free (or near so) and they would get co products out of the conversion process. Poland should also use her coal reserves for methanol conversion and use methanol for their transportation fuel instead of importing expensive oil, this also would cut down their emissions and repair her balance of payments in regard to trade. But instead they talk about nuclear power. Poland has a habit of not seeing the forest due to the trees.

Here's an article on coal gasification: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal_gasification

News / Coal-Powered Poland Refuses to "Go Green". EU Ain't Happy. [304]

Wrong, as this is my wife's scientific research and she is using Willow and Miscanthus sinensis (Elephant grass) as a source of biofuel for power stations.
Privately, my wife and her colleagues say it is a waste of time, but they have to do the research for the EU as part of their EU commitments

Most biofuel is made from corn. They use the starch from the corn for ethanol and the leftover stuff is distillers grains which has all the food nutrients (which incidentally is easier for the cattle to digest. Raw corn is difficult for cattle to digest). In the USofA they currently produce 15 billion gallons annually from 40% of the corn crop. The distillers grains go to livestock feed. East Africa has a famine because they don't have monoculture. They have subsistence farms which are vulnerable to droughts or floods. The farmers in East Africa don't need our grain they need our agricultural technology like tractors, seed and irrigation equipment. Your wife needs to quit believing the oil industry's disinformation campaign on biofuels (as a scientist she needs to be impartial). They (the oil industry) don't want the competition. Poland can produce ethanol or methanol from their coal reserves, all it takes is some creative thinking from it's politicians.

In Poland Tusk's government implemented change in schools in Poland. Reducing number of history lessons to almost non existence.

Genealogy / Do I look Polish? (my picture) [375]

So did Ralph Fiennes as Amon Goeth in Schindlers List, can you seriously tell the difference between ethnic English and Germans? Because i cant, perhaps thats because were from the same stock.

Even with the stereotypical dress, put the same dudes in opposite clobber and we have mirror images.......could pass as English or Germans....

Wrong! English ancestry is Anglo-Saxon, Celtic (Scots, Irish, Welsh) and Norman. Saxony is Germany now but used to be considered Denmark not that long ago. Most of Anglo Saxon English are historically Danish. In fact before 1066 England was considered a Scandinavian country. English ethnic heritage is Scandinavian (Danelaw) even the language is more closely related to Norwegian than German. No the English don't look German, a certain percentage of the population look Danish.
