I watched that TV series in late 1970s but without pleasure - only because there was nothing better on communist TV at the time.
The film is set in late 19th century Poland under foreign occupation. The main female protagonist loves certain man but marries another, a 15 years older guy whom she considers vulgar and basic. But she still tries to be a wife and mother. Their first child dies at 4. The next son is a spoilt troublemaker They are small landowners who have to strive to make both ends meet. One day they lose their property due to debts. The man dies and the widow leaves their home coz WW1 has just started.
She can never forget the moment when her first lover jumped into a lake to collect beautiful water flowers for her.

I considered this movie and the book which I had to read for Polish class in high school extremely depressing. I hated the idea that I could spend my life like those people.

Hubal is the war movie about the "Mad Major" Hubal Dobrzański who didn`t surrender after the fall of Poland in 1939 but continued fight against Germans with his cavarly unit until 1940. He was the first partisan of WW2.

There were agro fairs in one of the squares in Rabka. Those memories will stay with me forever - peasants offering livestock and produce straight from horse drawn carts.
Those fairs and open air markets were fully capitalist enterprises in a communist country - peasants could sell anything at free market prices.
