History / Terrible past for the Jews in Poland? [930]

Kaszub,
I cannot begin to recount to you all the number of Jews reunited after the War with their saviors who kept them in hiding throughout much of the last years from approximately '43-'45, often at risk to their own lives. Furthermore, these quiet, unsung heroes and heroines wouldn't even take money or compensation offered to them by those hidden Jews!

I too get a lump in my throat when recalling such vivid testimony.

Yo, Cojestdocholery,
I'm the least "traditional" Jew you're gonna come across in a long while, so quit dumping all Jews into the same heap!

I've been saying for years that if Jews are truly the "Chosen People", let them act like it, rather than hiding filthy deeds behind pious fraudulence, Brooklyn slum lords, for one.

The latter is what makes many thinking, enlightened Jews ashamed to admit among gentiles that they're Jewish.

@Cojestdocholery,
It is YOU needs to be educated about the history of the Jews in Europe!

As with many people, you allow anti-Semitic prejudices to interfere with your objecitve judgement.

Po polsku / Czy jest warto odwiedzić Szczecin? [34]

Tak, juz wiem.
Nawet dzis w niemieckich podrecznikow geograficznych jest napisane STETTIN, nie SZCZECIN, WARSCHAU, prawie nigdy WARSZAWA, tylko w nowoczesnych mapach szkolnych!

News / Poland Plans New Canal from Vistula to the Baltic. Drought? [12]

Merged:

Is Poland as affected by drought as Germany or Norway?

Having read about much of Northern Europe suffering so under the sweltering heat and certain drought conditions, I was wondering how Poland has been faring under current circumstances.

Przytulny czas.

History / Terrible past for the Jews in Poland? [930]

Jews typically tended to shy away from certain professions, more owing to the fact that all applicants or aspirants, if you prefer, had to show evidence that they were Christians, as much as any other possible reason!

Even much later when many Jews decided to convert, they were often met with continued hostility, deemed in most cases as trying to almost weasel their way into to gentile society, instead of as merely trying to eek out an honest living.

Either they were (as Jackie Mason likes to quip) "too Jewish" or, in the jaundiced eyes of the powers that be at the time, "not really Christian enough", worse still, as pretending to be the same as everyone else if only to curry favor and overtake the society.

Either way, the Jews couldn't win.

Excuse me, but I've endeavored to make a distinction between Polish gentiles and Polish Jews:-) Clearly, I didn't make myself plain enough.

@Rich,
"Assimilation" actually refers to the degree to which anyone feels comfortable within a society, adapts to most local customs or conventions, and above all, sees themselves as a part of rather than apart from their chosen community:-) Naturally, language to be sure plays a key role as well.

Assimilation certainly does NOT mean, nor has it ever meant, to jingoistically accept any or all dogma, doctrine etc. force fed down their throats. This is not assimilation, this is pure idiocy!!

Love / Do women like strong men in Poland ? [39]

My vision is neither distorted nor unrealistic! No two Poles are the same, and it is a fact, that in certain circles, the hand kiss remains a common ritual.

Admittedly, it's not as it once was in former generations.

For example.in the US, men, regardless of their status, used to tip their hat to a woman. I haven't seen that for nearly forty or more years. A shame too.

@Milo,
Once more, you're slandering me repeatedly, not because of anything I've posted, but solely because you want to dislike me personally, and not based on any tangible proof!

My posts haven't changed one iota since you and I have been corresponding. It's you who have changed for whatever reason, possibly legal or illegal drugs, probably because of the Covid innoculation.

As far as the topic, as many Jews throughout Europe wanted to assimilate as didn't. Look at Germany or Austria!

Concerning what I know for a fact, I know as much as you do, maybe more:-)

Life / Wish to settle down, which country to choose - Poland or Russia? [126]

True. A teacher remains a teacher at heart, similarly, a doctor remains a doctor etc.
However, teaching IS an evolving act, whereas being a dyed-in-the-wool apparatschik
is the opposite of evolution, if anything, it's devolution, as the consciousness has ceased
to grow or develop.

Once again, Atch, the difference between the Austrians vs. the Poles is as I've said many times before; the Austrians today feign the hand kiss and pretend both superficial politeness as well as Catholicism, whereas the Poles still take that stuff seriously, very seriously.

On a side note, it's a pity if Poles give up the hand kiss, maybe the last bastion of non-politically correct civility left these days! What with LGBTQ, "We-them" etc.. sexuality itself is beginning to mean little. Where do we draw the line?

Quite the contrary, paw.
A teacher, unlike a leopard, CAN change their "spots", if they
so choose. After all, one stops learning, they might as well stop teaching!
(Hey, there goes half the teaching profession LOL) Just joking, folks.

But an ideologue, be they Communist, Capitalist, Faschist, what have you,
will always remain mired, indeed imprisoned, in the penitentiary of their
own making.
