Life / Sexual culture in Poland [66]

Sex in Poland didn't start in 1989 when the wall came down...

Even funnier is the writing on the side of the box:

Before you is a tourist massager, produced by the Invalids' Co-operative 'TELSIN', at the factory of the teletechnical subgroup. The product is indispensible during highland excursions, on cold, lonely nights. Soothing, warm and relaxing. Recommended by the Society of Polish Tourism and Countrylovers

Genealogy / Russian Poland-what general area would this be? [30]

Does that even make sense for between 1911 and 1920, especially if they were in Russian controlled territory?

Yes, if it was during the First World War and he lived in one of the areas controlled by the German army.

News / Polish prosecutor 'shoots self after news conference' [93]

can be difficult to determine in a post mortem

Which is not only very off-topic, considering the guy shot himself but didn't die, but also very far from there being any serious or even half-credible suggestion that the person you are talking about instead died by anything other than his own hand.

News / Polish prosecutor 'shoots self after news conference' [93]

heard something about his car and house been damaged

Unlikely.

Does he know some mad sh1t about the cras

Nothing that isn't already known.

maybe he knows it was Lech kaczynski that caused the crash or something..

We all know that. It is a matter of public record.

Life / Price of cigarettes in Poland? [192]

I am planning to bring 3000 cigarettes home in my hand luggage

Check it in rather than carry it. 3000 cigs in a piece of hand luggage of the permitted size is a bit of a squeeze anyway.

is this not the polish authorities concern.

It isn't, but there's a tiny chance they'd tip off the authorities in the UK. But probably couldn't care less.

Life / Automobiles vs. Pedestrians in Poland [77]

Thanks to the very high skills of Polish drivers we have so little accidents on Polish roads.

One of the silliest and most outrageous lies I've heard in a long time. They are terrible drivers actually. Bad enough for governments to officially warn their citizens when visiting Poland.

The lasts stats conducted in 2009 show that we had only slightly over 56 000 road accidents , while Germany had 397 671 accidents

As you were told (yesterday I believe) on another thread, this is untrue. Poland has one of the highest ratios of accidents in Europe.

Life / K+M+B-2012 - formula on flats in Poland [63]

Why do you write such bulls*its here ? Do you really think people here are stupid enough to believe in that ?

Entirely true - and plenty more stories where that one came from. Why do you write such nasty posts - do you expect people to take them seriously?

By the way, do you have K+M+B chalked on your door? And how does this public display of religion affect your daily life?

cross section of the male society

With a preponderance of 'confirmed bachelors'. And if there's one thing I know about queens (and trust me, I know) we like money.

it is only the priest that visits your home, there is no gathering,

Not in my block - there's a crowd of coffin dodging old bags and their long-suffering husbands who come with him.

Life / K+M+B-2012 - formula on flats in Poland [63]

Ha! My friends moved to Skierniewice and the wife came home from work to find the priest interrogating her husband about their household income and standing there with a calculator telling him how much they have to pay. And some people actually fall for that!

Half of the people who let them do it aren't remotely religious but don't want gossip and an earbashing from the priest's post-menopausal fan club who come round the block with him while he's doing it - more to see inside their neighbours's homes than any act of faith.

re-zoologised socieities wallowing in sterile, secularist, materialist scum.

Not everyone bothers with that. And most who do don't live up to it.

And mashed potatoes without butter or milk added but with the fat from the pan drizzled over. Delicious!

Not every, and it is a hassle to make.

Kotlet Schabowy (pork steak hammered flat and breadcrumbed) is in many ways the national dish.

Life / Price of cigarettes in Poland? [192]

Should be about 22 quid for 200. Max 24, no lower than 20. Unless there's been a tax rise since I bought any - though that would only be a couple of quid at the most. Tesco or Carrefour would be the best bet, or keep looking at what's on display in the windows of kiosks.

I wonder why people don't smoke the locally grown stuff. it must be dirt cheap, although probably vile.

B&H, L&M, L&B Regal, etc that are sold in the UK are all made with part or all Polish tobacco ever since Poland joined the EU. Marlboro too, and the Marlboro sold in Poland have been for ages.

Some of the local brands are good. Caro light has a reputation for being an old codgers' brand, but the tobacco blend is exactly the same as Marlboro Red. Cheaper for the Philip Morris factory to fill the tubes with the same stuff and do it on the same production line than make a different formula. Fajrant was Poland's best-selling for a long time. Cheaper than Marlboro but better tobacco from the same factory.

Life / Price of cigarettes in Poland? [192]

I've been told if you look you can find L&B in krakow. Would L&M be the same price as malboro?

L&B in some shops. The ones in the tourist areas know Brits want a carton an price them accordingly. Tesco is your best bet. L & M ( ask for them as 'ellemy') are cheaper than Marlboro and sold everywhere.

News / Polish People STILL denied US Entry [96]

George W was a huge fan and ally of the Poles

He didn't do anything about the visa waiver. I doubt he could find Poland on a map.

Bush even attended a Polish American festival in Texas when in office, just out of curiosity.

That's what elected politicians do.

Language / How should "Polish" be written? Maybe Polski? [27]

OK back to the topic. How the word "Polish" is written, and NOT how it's pronounced

One of the easiest things about Polish is precisely that; it is written just as it is pronounced and vice-versa.

Polskie Passages

Sounds odd and a little vulgar.

Can I join this bet? After holidays in Szczebrzeszyn and Szczyrk, this is basically free money.

Exactly. Maybe we should have a side bet with Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz from Chrząszczyżewoszyce in powiat £ękołody!

OK back to the topic. How the word "Polish" is written, and NOT how it's pronounced

As much as you like - anyone who speaks Polish and doesn't have a wada wymowy can pronounce it.

The one word I have problems with (only when drunk) is chrzciciel - and even JP2 had problems with that word.

Life / Babcia or Busha - any social class difference? [359]

@Dessie

When have I ever commented on the Ukrainian language? I speak Polish, not Ukrainian, which I understand only partially. I have heard this spurious 'busia' word in neither language. You don't speak any Polish at all, so stop trolling and flaming in this thread.

What makes you think that neither Harry nor I can ''produce a correct sentence in Polish''?

In my case I speak it every day and write in Polish at least as often as in English. At least as often and as much as Boletus and his alter ego.

And on all that time I've only ever come across the word 'busia' on this website.

Not even close to Ukrainian

Did I say it was?

Burden of proof is clearly on you to disprove OP theory.

No, Boleta. Any burden is on the OP to prove it is a word in standard (or indeed any variant of) Polish.

Ukrainian peasant dialect is as outrages as making a connection with Kenya, after all there’s a village in Kenya by that very same name.

Really. You surprise me.
