News / Should Poland exit the EU immediately? [377]

Just think what would happen If EA was shut down

One of eternal dreams of Russia`s! No EU, isolated countries, arguing with each other, played by Russians as they want. Sooner or later, however long it will take, 100 or 200 years, Europe under Russian domination. Political or military, whatever. The end.

Are you crazy? :):):)

Yeah eu is responsible for greek tax failute, usa mortgage failure and gfc, massive fraud in uk banking committed by several individuals and future recession in oz due to technological failure and reliance on obsolete resources. Surely it must be responsible for Spains inability to produce anything the world wants to buy. What a joke!

So true.

Allmighty EU makes miracles, just look how beneficial it all was for Spain with their 25% unemployment rate and for Greece... Oh wait :))))

Why do you blame EU for unemployment in Spain? I thought Spaniards should blame themselves. And Greeks too. They brought problems on their heads with their own policy.

EU is now like an old exhausted granny. Very ugly.

Yet, most Serbs are dreaming of joining it. :):)

Amazing that we are even having this moronic "debate."

The debate breaks out regularly. Some guys are really persistent and seem never to give up... :):)

https://polishforums.com/news/poland-leave-institution-53597/

t is only the Polonia that don't have to live here,

Pity, but true. I can`t believe one can be so blind to obvious facts.
Or, are they such obsessed right wing Endecja maniacs that they are ready to push us even into Russia`s arms at the cost of our connection with Europe?

Or they are paid agents? :):)

As a slave by choice and conviction you should simply shut up, slaves do not vote.

You don`t even live in Poland so why do you want to tell Poles what they should/must do. Stay where you are and take care of your American family/property/job etc. :):) and leave us, real Poles, alone. We don`t need this crazy crap.

PS. Actually, I suspect all those guys who advocate Polish EU withdrawal don`t even live in Poland. Isn`t it amazing? ):)

Paranoia is something that regularly goes with fear and, fear leads to uncontrollable wrath what again leads onto the dark side

MOD: Back to the topic please

Excuse me, Mr/Mrs/Ms Mod, but Crow`s comment perfectly pertains to this thread . :):)

Israel and South Korea are both not in EU or NATO and the Americans would help them regardless should some Muslim country or North Korea attack them.

Wrong examples. US is ready to attack and smash any country in the world except Russia - do you know why? Think and come back with an answer.

Poland can trade with all countries regardless of EU. Poland should not sell its soul (pride, culture and people) just for a few extra dollars though.

You prefer roubles? :)

With EU Poland has become a sort of slave to higher powers

I prefer being slave to EU than Russia. At least we can learn sth useful. So simple. :)

I don't like pawian

Yes, you will have to bear my presence here as I have come back again to defend my country against various kinds of maniacs who think they know what is good for Poland while in fact they are ready to lead to another partition. I have always been amazed that some of you seem to be so convinced about your stance which is nothing but harmful.

But it could all be hoax. After Ukraine war had erupted, I learnt about Putin Propaganda Brigade, that is guys who are paid by the Kremlin to spread false info and instill black propaganda on forums all over the world.

Reading posts suggesting Poland`s withdrawal from EU I start wondering how much you are paid for each post about it. :):):):)

He spoke English in Britain. Cameron even praised Duda for his language skills.

But I laughed my head off when he welcomed the audience in the church with Excellent Ghasts! at 0:07

I bet you are leftist.

No, why? :)

Have you ever heard of NATO?

I suppose so...

You know the actual organization which is more likely to help should a military confrontation take place...

Hmm, I have serious doubts about it.... I am not so naive as to believe that NATO will rush to help a country which is not EU member. What for??

Think about it.

The EU has too many issues and can go to hell :)

Yet, economic bonds which it creates between members outweigh anything NATO may offer a non EU member.

(Believe it or no, not all Poles believe that Russia is coming to get us again.

Yes. But Si vis pacem, para bellum

Too much propaganda from the PIS and PO fearmongers isn't healthy for you.)

What is healthy for me, then? Please, enlighten me. :)

BTW, you called me leftist before, now you bring up PiS and PO. :) Mind, messing things up isn`t healthy for me, either. :):)

Life / News on driving in Poland [57]

Since that post (Jan 2013), a sizeable fleet of Opel Insignias has been added.

Yes, Insignias.

I saw one in Krakow a few times too. Often enough to take a pic:

Poland should exit EU immediately.

No.
Poland outside EU will fall prey to Russia sooner or later. Do you want it?
We are too weak to stand on our own. It is not 16 century when we were able to keep Russia at bay.

Sometimes it happens certain monuments are replaced by others.
Soviet soldiers in Krakow were replaced by Jan Matejko, great Polish artist.

An expert on Polish castles runs a nice website, see the mini photo gallery of main structures
zamkipolskie.com/minigal/minigal.html

Pity only in Polish.

Krzyżtopór (CrossAxe) defensive palace functioned for a few years only, ruined by invading troops in 17 century, never rebuilt, though now plans exist.

Travel / Greatest Old Towns in Poland [74]

By Old Town I mean exactly the area which originated in the Middle Ages (during the main settlement era, mostly in result of implementation of Magdeburg Rights)

https://polishforums.com/history/poles-owe-germans-53954/#msg1174498

Kazimierz is OK, yes, came into being in 14 century, has its own market square etc.

But other districts you mention aren`t old enough to me.

Some places are only Old Towns with marginal development beyond the defensive walls area:

Szydłów - once thriving, then declined and remained so till today.

s

Not far from Szydłów there is Staszów. I used to teach there nearly two decades ago. Great times. :)

Kalisz again. I can`t resist, it is so beautiful from the air.....

Though a closer look shows standard stuff on the ground level

History / Jaruzelski vs Pinochet [120]

Poles are cultured people - that animosity has largely died.

Yes, indeed. That is why we were so surprised by your outburst. Especially that

I wasn't here in Martial Law - first visit in 1985,

I was here in 1981 and saw my parents crying when they listened to the radio broadcast of martial law declaration on Sunday morning in the kitchen. That shocking view got imprinted in my mind for ever.

I was simply saying, if it had happened in Britain.... some of us non believers would not be so forgiving, myself included.

Yes, we saw that repulsive festival of joy in British streets after Margaret Thatcher died.

History / Jaruzelski vs Pinochet [120]

Excellent question.

Of course we don`t know too many details, only certain facts, mostly provided by Jaruzelski. They met 8 times and talked for many hours, even when General was out of office. E.g., they talked about history a lot.

More here but be careful, this Przegląd site is a leftist magazine: przeglad-tygodnik.pl/pl/artykul/papiez-general

It is possible that John Paul considered Jaruzelski a tragic figure who depended on Moscow in all matters but at the same time tried to be a patriot of Poland. Socialist Poland, but still Poland.

History / Jaruzelski vs Pinochet [120]

even looking at Jaruzelski, his history shows that he was never interested in the perks that accompanied power.

E.g., he never drank alcohol which was abundant in the army and then government offices.

End of academic discussion

Hmm, it doesn`t sound like a discussion, it looks like a very emotional outburst.

he altruism of the sad commies who were sneaking off in secret to communion - even if they hadn't attended confession - still afraid for their souls.

Of course they didn`t fear for their souls, they attended religious ceremonies because of their families` pressure.

History / Jaruzelski vs Pinochet [120]

If it's true, then the number is similar to elsewhere in the Soviet bloc.

Yes, but not exactly. In other countries, especially USSR, 10% priests DIDN`T collaborate with communists. :):):)

History / Jaruzelski vs Pinochet [120]

It was the only way a pre-war Falangista Piasecki could have hoped to play any role in Soviet-occupied Poland. he story goes that he personally was received by Stalin who spared his life in exchange for hsi pledge to undermine the Church.

Yes, that guy was really a scandalous lowlife.

Professor Edmund Ordon of Detroit's Wayne State Unviersity once told me that PAX's only redeeming factor was that it made it possible to publish books by Catholic thinkers that would otherwise not been published in a Soviet-bloc country.

True but not only. PAX also gave work to anticommunist patriots from AK who left prisons in 1956 and were turned down by official state institutions.

His name is Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski and he has estimated that some 10% of the clergy collaborated.

I read a good book about it:

polish Book

The figure would undoutbedly be smaller if one considered only those priests who voliuntarily and servlistically collaborated for private gain as opposed to thsoe hwo were blackmailed, harassed and/or intimidated in various ways.

E.g., the one who suffered from a serious disease and had to take special medicine not produced in Poland. Communist secret service provided him with the medicine and required information.

History / Jaruzelski vs Pinochet [120]

Did they really try that hard, though? I know there was the usual Stalinist tactics towards the Church, but never a massive repression with a total ban on attending Church?

Yes, right, no massive repression because, as I said,

it would mean execution of millions

Do you think that millions really would have died for the Church?

No, not for the Church. But for God, yes.

people were already destroyed by the years of war -

And that`s why they needed God so much.

if the Church being outlawed meant a return to relative normality,

How can the destruction of the Church lead to relative normality???

that Jaruzelski (and others) were never brought up in front of a South African style Truth and Reconciliation process.

That`s interesting. I never heard about it.

History / Jaruzelski vs Pinochet [120]

To be fair, they could have crushed the Church if they wanted -

Sorry, Delph, crushing the Church was impossible at the time. :):):) Stalinist communists tried it in 1940s/50s but failed and gave up.

but it would have meant keeping Poles in a genuine police state

No, it would mean execution of millions who were ready to die for their beliefs.

Protests in Poland

It made far more sense to leave the Church be.

Exactly. :):):)

Holding such hatred in your heart can only bring you down too.

Yes. I have never been able to understand people who hate others and never forgive.

History / Jaruzelski vs Pinochet [120]

I would love to buy the bloke who bricked Jaruzelski a drink.

Yes, the case of Mr Helski, farmer, wronged by communist authorities, was scandalous indeed.

Comment : TVP1 showed on Monday, 1 February 2010 documentary Fri " Comrade General " by Gregory Braun and Robert Kaczmarek . The film depicts the life of Wojciech Jaruzelski . After the film there was a discussion led by Ed. Rafal Ziemkiewicz , with the participation of journalists Jacek Zakowski , Wojciech Mazowiecki, Peter Zaremba and Lukasz Warzecha . As my voice in the discussion I present an article written October 12, 1994 at the request of the Secretary- editor of "Gazeta of Poland". The text was not allowed to print.

But hitting a man with a stone in the face was a barbaric, un-Christian revenge. After so many years the hatred didn`t subside.....???

Amazed that all this merits an academic argument.

Come on, it is just an innocent forum discussion. :):):)

History / Film "Wałęsa" - historical reality vs myth - controvercies [110]

like you say, he cut people out and ruled Solidarity as if he was the king of his own empire

I don`t think so. These were behind the stage personal games and they aren`t included in modern history books. :)

But I wouldn`t say he ruled like a king. He had advisors and mates, he had to cooperate.

Much more important was his debate with the leader of pro-communist trade unions in 1988. Wałęsa won it decisively and even communists had to admit it, so they renewed talks with him.
