History / Modern myths and legends about communist past in Poland [250]

Yes, Dirk, you reminded us of that scene from cult comedy Teddy Bear. Actually, cutlery wasn`t chained

But glasses in street soda machines were chained.

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1450]

Silesian dumplings - I have eaten them several times when visiting friends/family in Silesia but never been their fan. Too rubbery. Yes, I like rubbery stuff like octopus but only when it is fried and crispy on the surface. Dumplings are only chewy. Even that tasty gravy doesn`t save their lousy reputation.

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

In some high schools the situation is really bad after the PiS deform. The corridors are horribly congested during breaks, even though students come in shifts - morning or afternoon The PiS Ministry of Education says it is not a problem and blame local councils.

News / PiS candidates are losing positions in EU Parliament. Will they keep power in Poland? [358]

Catholicism and nearly every other mainline Protestant sect acknowledge Jesus as God--the Second Person of the Holy Trinity.

You forgot about Jehova`s Witnesses. :)

no denying the crucial and inseperable part the Church has played in Polish history

Yes, but in our times crucial and inseperable turns into parody, especially when the Church openly supports PiS. In that case, I see that defending the Church and religion against its natural decline is unnecessary. Worse, it is harmful to Polish interests. The Church united with PiS are intent on making this country a rightist dictatorship. I will never accept that, even being a believer.

See a PiS politician using a church to propagate his stance:

Off-Topic / The "Anglicization" of Europe [132]

Please realize that I LOVE the English language which is why I hate to hear or see it mutilated.

Yes, I also dislike when primitives maul the language. Yes, I have observed the vulgarisation of the English lagnuage for many years. When I learnt about snakes as a teenager, they were venomous and I still use it. Who the fekk started using poisonous? it is a completely different meaning.

We can't stand expat Aussies, thats for sure. Why do you come on a Polish forum anyway, woggie?

How about leaving The Other alone and taking care of yourself? Your contribution to the PF is zero, while the Other`s is real and informative. Huh? Ever though about it?

I have just caught myself being involved personally in the vulgarisation of the language.
In another thread talking about countable holes I said:Less and less, instead of fewer and fewer, as I was taught a few decades ago.

Shame on me. But I have seen it used so many times with countable nouns that I follow the example spontaneously now.

Language / Harmless old-fashioned Polish swear words/phrases [159]

now by 12 years or so it's kurvva this, dvpa that hvj the other..

This is horrible. It is obvious I cry out kurwa mać when I hit my finger with a fekking hammer while working on the farm and even my kids understand that. But inserting swear words every 3 words is a sign of total cretinism - when I hear people do it, I immediately stay away coz it is not my company.

"psiakrew bydlo"?

That must be one of those ancient Polish expressions which travelled to the US with Polish immigrants long ago and were retained there but got lost in Poland proper also long ago. I never heard it.

Life / Owning a house in true countryside of Poland - stories [692]

I went on one of those when I went from Rabka to Kraków, cost me about 9 PLN. Bargain!

Exactly.

Unless one travels occassionally. Let`s imagine sb going both ways Rabka Kraków 5 -6 days a week like that. 18 PLN every day, multiplied by 5 is 90 PLN weekly, monthly 360. Yearly, without holiday time, about 4000 zlotys.

Hmm, is it still a bargain, compared to the expenses you have for a car insurance, fuel, repairs etc.??
I think it is.

Life / The nature of Polish jokes? [128]

Some jokes are based on black humour which is sometimes nasty. E..g, the latest article about a search for a venomous snake in a block of flats in a German city. German police are planning to use gas to kill the run-away cobra. A commenter asks a question: Guess which gas are Germans going to use?

News / How could PiS better spend billions instead of 500+ ? [280]

It is obvious that as an expat, you don`t care about the Polish financial situation coz it doesn`t refer to you personally.

However, I do care because I live in this country and my kids will probably, too so wasting money on benefits is harmful for the overall development of Poland. Instead of steadily investing into branches where the investment will serve Poles for decades, they are squandering assets and increasing the national debt, instead of lowering it. My kids will have to repay that debt in the future.

Well, yes, one good thing from 500+ - customers` crazy demand for consumer goods which makes the industry and services go round. But how long? .

News / How could PiS better spend billions instead of 500+ ? [280]

Delph`s questions in another thread inspired me to start this thread.

where are the 10,000 flats they promised? What about the 1m electric cars? Or why haven't they built a single kilometre of motorway this year?

PiS boast they have transfered 67 billion zlotys in 500+ social benefits within 3 years - 500 PLN for each second and more children in the family. Since October this year, also the first child. .

wiadomosci.radiozet.pl/Polska/Polityka/Ile-kosztuje-500-plus-Rzad-podaje-liczby-i-podkresla-warto-bylo

How could this money be spent by the government in another way?

Delph mentioned new flats, electric cars and motorways.

I may add the fight with droughts which have become a real problem in Poland for a few years. The construction of professional retention and detention system is needed. Polish farmers could use these basins for irrigation in hot months.

Life / Owning a house in true countryside of Poland - stories [692]

the goverment said they will subsidise these private mini buses to go on villages that are not served at the moment,

That`s a wonderful idea, but I am afraid it is only an empty promise. PiS will have much bigger financial worries than public transport when recession strikes.

The buses run on fixed schedule.

History / Historical Polish parades [42]

One of major military parades took place in 1966 when the Millenium of the Polish state was celebrated.

It was a spectacular event with a lot of soldiers and equipment taking place. Re-enactment groups presenting main periods of Polish military history also marched (and rode).

that a veritable host of eager, friendly Europeans DEFINITELY enjoy speaking English with foreigners!!

But I heard that whenever French waiters realise they are serving the British, they forget their English immediately. Rude guys.

In your sick mind.

But the situation was at the railway station where you suggest the lady behind the counter should have refused him service for not speaking Polish.

Again, I am asking you- - do you know the rules of Polish hospitality or not?

News / PiS` magic tricks - the first budget without deficit in Poland [39]

but most of Polish industry in the early 90s was incapable of supporting itself

Yes, we talked about it. The post communist industry was completely obsolete, simply worthless.

but most of them could have easily made it in the free market reality

Of course not. You must be quite young coz you repeat false opinions which the Net is abundant with, spread mostly by youngsters who know nothing about the times. Good for you! :):)

Typical? You mentioned TPSA. Anything else?

Let me remind you that the same people you are talking about include today`s PiS politicians, firstly Kaczyńsks brothers. Do you remember the Telegraf scandal?

Pawian is Polish, and he loves Poland

Of course, I do. If it was possible, I would have married her long ago coz she is so hot. :)

he will one day embrace his Polishness in full, and become a faithful knight of Saint Virgin Mary Queen of Poland

There is a problem coz I prefer God and Jesus. The Queen of Poland is OK, but somehow I don `t feel her knight. Sorry..

Life / Owning a house in true countryside of Poland - stories [692]

goverment is introducing 3000 new public transport routes over the next six months, subsidised, to give many villages and rural areas ,

That`s BS, they only promised it but won`t really make it happen. Don`t fall for PiS` tricks - it is pure politics to win the elections. They will create one route or two of state bus transport to show on PiS TV and that will be all.

But don`t imagine there is no transport between cities, towns and villages at all. Of course there is, but private one. If my car broke down, I can travel from my village to a nearby town by mini bus which goes every 1.5 hour. Then, another mini bus from the town to the big home city - they go every 10 minutes.

The whole route takes 60 kilometres and would cost me about 10 zlotys.

Shyt, I never thought of taking a picture of a mini bus - so see one from the internet.

News / PiS` magic tricks - the first budget without deficit in Poland [39]

PiS is boasting of preparing the first budget since 1989 which won`t be burdened with the deficit.

tvn24.pl/tvn24-news-in-english,157,m/poland-s-government-adopts-a-draft-balanced-budget-for-2020,964497.html

However, experts claim it is just an over optimistic show-off, which is mostly based on PiS` robbing people`s private retirement accounts in OFE system and moving them into state Social Security Company.
