Yes, that's a good one. Here's another one:

Na stoliczku stoi mleczko i jajeczko.
Przyszedł kotek, wypił mleczko
a ogonkiem stłukł jajeczko.

Life / Polish Nursery Rhymes [253]

Two Michaels were dancing, one big the other small
When the big one started pacing, the small one couldn't catch up
When the small one couldn't catch up
Then the big one stopped pacing
And when the big one stopped pacing
then the little one caught up.
And when the little one caught up
then the big one started pacing
And when the big one started pacing, then the little one couldn't catch up.
The little Michael could barely breath
The Big Michael was pushing him
Untill they both fell on the floor
The two dancing Michaels

Life / Wszystkich Świętych (All Saints Day) // Dzien Zaduszny (All Souls day) [93]

I lived next to a cemetary in Poland and during this holiday there was a mass in the evening in the cemetary and everyone would light candles and place them on the graves. You could see the glowing cemetary from far away giving it an eirie feeling. It is a big holiday in Poland.

Food / Polish Sour Milk / Maślanka [44]

They are not "let" stand for days.

OK. They are "ordered" to stand for days.
Cheese too. That's why cheese and wine go together.

Food / Polish Sour Milk / Maślanka [44]

OK, so maybe it's not that bad, but I never did like it. Some Polish dishes are made by letting them stand for days, like żurek, bigos, serwatka, kwaśne mleko.

I like the fresh stuff. The other junk does funny things to your bowels.

Genealogy / Do Polish people have big noses? [450]

They say dogs look like their owners, so if you have a long nose, get a bulldog. It'll get smaller.

Food / Polish Sour Milk / Maślanka [44]

My dad would go to a farmer and get raw milk straight from a cow then he would make the kwasne mleko and eat it with potatos and koperek.

YUK!!!!

Genealogy / The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans [656]

this is so true..

No that is not true. I was only bluffing coz after they fill you with balming fluid no bug will come near you within 100 feet! Plus maggots don't live 6 feet under. And if the coffin is made of steel no way in hell they get to you.

Very well said Patrycja.
It's who the person is not what they look like because we will all get old and wrinkly and shrivel up and die and no matter what our body looked like when alive, we will all turn into dust and get eaten by maggots .

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Well, I don't see anything wrong with using or overusing of polite words.

I agree with that.
People in Poland say thank you lots of times, maybe they don't use it much in grocery stores or dealing with public, but when they talk amongst themselves, they always say"dziękuję ślicznie" "dziękuję pięknie". They are very polite, but when working, they have this tendency not to say it.

Genealogy / THE MEANING AND RESEARCH OF MY POLISH LAST NAME, SURNAME? [4500]

Kiecki would be the Polish spelling and it means "skirts". But it sounds like a Jewish name.

Last Name: Glud / Glod?

"Glod" means "hunger" ("Glud" sounds like "Glod" in Polish though). The word "Glud" itself doesn't mean anything in Polish.

if you write 'glod/glud' it don't mean jack in Polish

głód - i mean, if two out of four letters are misspelled, it can't be easy to look it up, can it? (let alone pronouncing it)

---edit---
:) just came to me. if a Dutch speaking person tries to read 'glud', he/she will say 'glut' and there we have ... a bugger ;)

Life / Polish Nursery Rhymes [253]

Jedzie koń, jedzie koń, kopytami bije,
Uciekaj dziewczynko, bo cię koń zabije.

"Horse is riding, horse is riding, hoofs beating on the ground,
Run away girl, because the horse will kill you"

Not a good nursery rhyme for children. Sledz's are much better.

Love / Are Polish men shy and take things slow? [118]

as though he was going to kiss me and then ran away!!!!!

lol!!!! That is funny!!!
He is just shy and doesn't know how to act. He has feelings for you but there is a lot going through his mind and he doesn't want to jinx it. You just have to be patient with him.

Runs away!! ha ha ha. Cute.

Love / Are Polish men shy and take things slow? [118]

He has to sort things out and he's probably cautious before he makes any decission. There is a lot to think about when you care about someone and some people take longer to make that first step and maybe there are certain issues that are holding him back. But everything is new and exciting and maybe he wants to take it slow, because he probably has deep feelings for you too but he's not quite sure how to express them yet.

UK, Ireland / Warning to British people visiting Poland!! Don't get drunk and smash the place up! [447]

True, there are also Polish Sheepdogs - the Polski Owczarek Nizinny (PON) and Owczarek Podhalański which put Poland on the map. And of course, the Polish pope, who made other nations realize that there is such a country like Poland. Now everybody wants to go there, so Poland can make money out of tourism.

Nice to see you still around lef.
