Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Ok, dunno why my post has been moved.. (Mods??)

Statistically you are more likely to be killed by your medical Doctor or a car then you are a gun. (U.S. or Poland)

So? That's a good reason to carry guns? Cars and doctors are not meant to hurt. Accidents happen. Guns are made to kill. Totally different.

I guess if that is the case we should outlaw our Doctors and cars first one would think.

Let's start with guns first. We still need docs and cars. We don't need guns.

I'm not arguing, I'm presenting facts. Try reading the papers and understanding the realities legal of gun ownership.

Well, I've lived in both France and Poland, and I still hear more 'facts' of this kind in the States. Last year was a bloody one. These things are still quite rare around here. Not saying they don't happen, but clearly less than in the US. And I saw other facts stating that those 'legal' weapons kill more than they save.

But I just saw you like 'shooting' (in your hobbies), so I guess I can't really convince you ;)

Exaggerate much? Read up on school shootings, you are way out of touch on frequency.

Your stock answer to facts which don't fit your picture of the world is "silly".

Which ones? There are none (almost) here.

Oh, thanks for the "cowboy" compliment.

You're welcome, Clint ;)

I simply said that good guys with guns stop bad guys with guns every day, multiple times. You added the "have to" in there.

In fact though, almost all bad guys who are stopped are done so by good guys with guns. Some are cops or soldiers, while others are citizens. A few kill themselves and, presumably, some die from car accidents or other causes.

Stopping criminals is not citizens' job, your argument is silly. Cowboys era is over. Let the police do its job. Do yours. Which is not killing random criminals.

Then exercise your rights and don't live in the United States if it bothers you. You could move to Oslo, Norway so you would never have to worry that your kids would be away from home and be shot.......oh, maybe you could move to Dunblane, Scotland........or how about Winnenden, Germany........mmmmm, Toulouse, France.....or maybe the.........moon?

Definitely silly. These tragic incidents happen like once every 5-10 years here. When they happen every 5-10 days in the US.

Yes, I do favor the death penalty be available as a form of punishment.

I will disagree again, but I guess it's off-topic here ;)

History / What do Poles owe to Germans? [451]

Poles owe Germans, nothing

Well, they participated in the development of such (nice) cities as Wrocław. And Gdańsk, a place I like, for instance ;)

Poles and Germans walked a very long way together; they share a lot of their history. That's what they owe each other.

Exactly. Even if it's not always obvious for many Poles and Germies.

News / Do Poles in Poland really feel betrayed because there won't be any US Shield? [288]

I didn't say it only effects uneducated people. Just that most of these low-paid jobs that don't require high qualifications are not taken by PhDs. You said it, many of them can barely speak English. Educated people either stay in Poland, or get a good job abroad, but are less likely to accept toilet cleaning...positions ;)

I don't know where you come from but it sure as hell seems like it is, cheap labor force for the Western Europe and beyond.

Well, I live in Poland now, and I see people going to (normal) work everyday. There's no visible 'camp' here. Don't be such an 'extremist' ;)

Which doesn't mean that nobody goes abroad to get more money. Of course there is. But that's not specific of Poles. When there's a place, elsewhere, where you can earn a few times your local salary, you can get tempted, that's quite normal I'd say. And of course, in these 'elsewhere' places, there are people ready to benefit -every possible way- from those low-paid workers. Homo homini lupus, my friend.

I have no words to describe ur inner stupidity

'goofy the dog' says... ;)

I cant be bothered in giving you statistics, numbers etc...

Of course, you can't bother, so you can't prove anything, your problem.

Russian and German economies and governements want to change Poland into a colonial state, throughout the last 20 years, after we got our imndepedence, nothuing has changed, it only got worse, hell we have voices of people saying that they were better of in the communist times.

Wow, this sounds really bad, tell me more.
Communist times, yeah, like that worked. We see how advanced today's commie countries are...

Poland has been changed into a labour camp, controlled by corporations, and the West. Poles go abroad to work in the lowest paid jobs, that for their standards is quite decent.
Don't get wrong, I would like to see Poland as a strong country, however this can only be achieved by a joint operations with our allies ( if we still have them, like the US).

Maybe it's Poland's fault, and not Germies and likes. Poland turned from communist to capitalism in a short time, you need time to make those drastic changes. Today's Poland is not a 'labour camp'. I don't know where you come from, but that place must be horrible.

Those Poles who go abroad to get bad jobs with bad salaries are poor people with no specific education. There are also doctors, dentists and such, and they are not paid in nuts. The money is still better there than in Poland, true, that's the point.

The US is not Poland's ally. The US don't do anything without profit. They don't need Poland. Let's face it. They are Poland's 'ally' only when Poles buy American planes, cars, and other 'missile defences'.

the most dangerous crisis for teh Polish culture/country is the most truvial one, we need more children

Then Christian Church is really not as powerful as it used to be ;) Women don't make thousands of babies anymore, they'd rather enjoy life and have a nice career ;)

so they can make us their 51st state."

hahah, maybe not such bad idea afterall?

Living in fear forever? Hmmm, well we agree on that point, I guess, by a defence shield be never afraid again!

You should learn some basic psychology. Having a lot of defence wouldn't make you any safer. It could be quite the contrary. It's like provocation.

Only the most armed nations are not afraid, therefore are respected by the others, like the US, China or your so beloved " peaceful" Russia.

Haha, yeah, ask the Americans, after 2001, if they still feel safe... ;)
And no, I don't 'love' Russia, I just don't believe in monsters under my bed anymore.

In 2100 there will only 16 million Poles alive in the country!

Then it's time for Poland to welcome immigrants from bloody Uganda ;)

Remeber how POutin was saying that Poland should not have the Missile Defence? All the media spin? If we would be an independent country, no other nation- regardless wether it would be Russia or Slovakia should ever order us what to do.
I think that American Missile defence system would ensure our safety anyway, with American troops on our soil, we would have a better chance of USA helping us out

Putin would always say the contrary of what the US say. Not surprised here.
Poland would be an independent country with an AMERICAN defence thingy and AMERICAN troops on its soil? Then I'd rather be Georgian than Polmerican, I'm telling you.

Stop being a victim, bad Russia and bad Germany have other hobbies than invading poor little inoffensive Poland, again. What about the Swedes? Will they put their helmets back on their heads and attack Poland with swords and axes, like they did centuries ago? And what about the Ottom...sorry, Turkey?

Playing the victim will never make you feel any safer. It's part of that psychology thing I told you about. Victims tend to have more chances to be bothered than 'normal' people.

Enough of martyr Poland, it's 2013, COME ON!

Only idiots believe that in todays Political situation, a country can be ruled by itself, individually...

Thanks for the compliment ;)
But it's not what I said. I'm just saying that Poland doesn't need to be anyone's puppet. It's time to decide for 'ourselves' and not let the 'big ones' rule us, little people.

Russia doesn't move, why?

Then tell me why would Russia move?
You can't live in fear forever, it's time to move on.

I just don't understand why don't you want the Shield?!
I would want it, just in case, if somebody will have some stupid ideas, and if Russians don't like this idea, as they say, it is a hostility to build the missile defence over POland, then people come on! If they don't want us to have defence then that clearly means that they want to attack us in near future... who knows maybe in a very near future?

So, just in case, give Palestine nuclear weapons, so they can defend themselves in case Israel attack them. With just-in-cases, you can re-do the whole world.

And give everyone a gun, so they can defend themselves in case 'somebody has stupid ideas'... ;)
If you think the US want to protect Poland from eeevil Russia, you're wrong, they don't give a sh... about Poland.

As I said, you can't live in fear of everyone forever. The Austro-Hungarian empire, Prussia, the Soviets, it's all over. Humans would benefit so much from peace. Especially if you consider the price of wars and stuff.

It is scary how easily people can be controlled...

Well, that's exactly what the US want to do with Poland. They don't need an 'ally', they need a strategical place.
If you ask me, Poland doesn't need that shield. Who's gonna attack Poland, honestly? I actually think they will have greater 'chances' to be attacked once they're the US puppy and have that shield.

War, war, always war. Let the bloody Americans deal with their own wars, we don't need them here ;)

News / Poles are getting rich... [63]

The average estate of an adult Poles amounts to around 28,600 US dollars.

And as there are still big differences between Poles themselves (Poland A and Poland B)... I guess the Poles living in Warsaw and Silesia own much more.

As he said, it must be easier with educated people (who can probably speak English).
Those who are there for 'manual labours' may not be fluent in English (at all) and may find it too difficult to have a proper conversion with someone who doesn't speak his own language. I guess ;)

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

My favourite example of such a word in English is "queue". I've heard English spelling was heavily influenced by French. That would explain it

Heavily influenced by French? You mean TOTALLY ;)
It's the French spelling, with an English pronunciation.
In French, we say [kuh] (the 'uh' sound is..harder, like German 'ö').

Why don't you go back to the old, good times of easy French spelling.

Actually we do ^^ Well, young people do, when they write SMSs or emails... They make many mistakes (on purpose, well most of the time..) just to have shorter messages and mails.

Example: Je vais voir un match de football à la télévision.
(I'm going to watch a football game on television)
-> Je V vwar 1 match 2 foot a la tv.

Which i find, personnally, totally unsightly ;) Some people actually can't write 'normally'.

Language / Polish was chosen the HARDEST LANGUAGE in the world to learn... :D [1558]

You will find many, many words in French with unpronounced letters.
If you want a short explanation, French was made purposedly more difficult several centuries ago, to make it more 'noble', so that only cultivated people could use it.

Before that time, French spelling was very easy.

you learn about Richard Chamberlain at school?

No, Arthur Neville Chamberlain (WW2).

it's funny the way you guys pronounce everything (especially names) à la française

It's not funny! It sucks! ^^

Even when i watch a football game on TV:

'Steven GeRaRR' for Steven GerarD, no 'd' in the French pronunciation.

Rishar Shamberlen they actually meant Richard Chamberlain!?

Haha, i know!! We say it this way in France (i'm not proud of it, but we learn it this way at school). Plus, 'Chamberlain' could be a French name. We pronounce it just as if it was French

I have the same kind of problem with some English sounds.

Ah, you see ^^

Oh, I love it ;-)

Argh, i don't ;) It's such a shame that people can just speak French.
There are French people who are very good at English, but they're a minority.

The lack of care when spelling someone's name is what irritates me

Then please don't come to France, here people don't even try to imitate the accent (i'm generalising a bit but i know i'm right).

'You are a beautiful girl' -> (with a strong French accent) You aRR uh byouTifool guh-RRl
Nice.

;)

The tongue is in a completely different position.

Completely different, really?
It's obvious for you, not for everybody.

"Si" is often incorrectly translated as "sh". For example, Gosia becomes Gosha. It irritates me a lot.

You can't blame foreigners if they don't have that particular sound in their language.
Cz and ci are close sounds.
Cz can be transcribed as an English 'ch' sound.
Ci is the same sound, just...wetter.

But you know, when you're not used to it, those sounds are pretty similar.
