Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

There is no vote suppression - we have an election in May and any of the candidates are welcome to put looser gun laws into their programme. Same with parliamentary elections.

In 2015 Kukiz had that as part of his programme.

On this board you have a good sample of people who can vote in Poland - some left, some right and some middle - how many do you think want the free for all that there is in the US ?

News / Is the Polish-Polish war ending? Is the PiS-PiS war beginning? [14]

Was watching. TVP in the gym and they showed only the first part of the story - nothing about Ziobro. Not sure which of those is worse but I think we are going to see the problem with ziobro being prosecutor and the judges reporting to him

Life / Would getting a Polish eagle tattoo be frowned upon?? [39]

But normal marriages don't involve "giving your wife money" - it goes into a bank account that you can both use and which in most cas3s she will spend sensibly on the kids and house and keep some for a rainy day.

In your fantasy life you roll up home in your Toyota and bregrudgingly peel off a few twenties for your wife to get a new scarf in Target every November.

In your real life you fiddle drunkenly around with the lock of your 15th floor apartment, open the door to a cold empty commie flat and try and chip a few bits of bread from the rock hard loaf you queued 45 minutes to get.

As for tartooes - they are rarely eagles or crosses these days - much more elaborate and personalized as you surely would have noticed the n yand ur famous trip to Poland.

Work / Resigning during the job probation period in Poland [2]

Go with whatever is in your contract. If you want to leave there is nothing much to be gained from forcing you to work extra.

Note that if you are non EU and have a work permit you will lose that if you resign - check it carefully

News / Goodbye Sunday Shopping in Poland - Hello Electoral Reform [246]

I see this week that inflation starting to gallop - 4.5 percent, we haven't seen those rates for 10 years. Sunday shopping law is one of the reasons but increase in minimum wage, petrol costs, energy costs will all be passed on to consumers as well.

News / Coal-Powered Poland Refuses to "Go Green". EU Ain't Happy. [304]

No - it was more like the geology not bring favorable. About 30 licenses were issued but half of them closed down operations. I think with the increases in land prices and labor costs in Poland over the last 5 years it would be tough to make money.

The EU has regulated it but not banned it.

News / Coal-Powered Poland Refuses to "Go Green". EU Ain't Happy. [304]

Because it is buried deep, and in areas where lots of people live means no subsidence protection is also very expensive.

There are energy security benefits to keeping coal and as a taxpayer I am ok with gradually winding them down but at the moment with plenty of other work available we don't have to devote so much public money to paying those miners

News / Modern F-35 bought by Poland. Good decision? [288]

Yes especially when Putin himself is flying those fighter jets LOL

We all know the reality - some clunky 80s Sukhoi serviced by slouching drunk mechanics and flown by guys nervously checking if the battery in their Sturmanskie is still working

Off-Topic / To ALL IMMIGRANTS ("expats") to Poland on this forum... [124]

Nothing gets you going as much as ground acorn cheap Russian coffee and a shot of moskovskaya. You are about to kick off another day of worthless rants

What a lousy empty existence

Work / English speaking Tax accountant in Warsaw [7]

What I wrote a couple of years ago is still true. You can google but it will be very difficult to find an English speaking accountant for 250 zloty in Warsaw.

What this accountant has done to you is unfair - though I don't know all the facts, but that is what happens when you go to someone for a knock down price.

In fact at today's prices you will struggle to get a plumber or a locksmith for 250 zloty.

UK, Ireland / Polish People are Welcome in Scotland [54]

Well you needn't worry about the BBC any more - that would be one of the things Scotland would have to do without.

There are Scottish newspapers already and they have wider readership there than the London papers.

News / Presidential elections 2020 - your opinions about campaign, candidates [2222]

He is quite a good candidate - worth listening to. Not sure who I will vote for (in the second round it will be anyone but Adrian)

A few years ago I thought that Poland moving to a two party system was a good symbol of maturity but it hasn't turned out like that - I'm also sick of the fighting. The moderate voices in PiS were pushed to the side in 2015 and since then they have concentrated on cronyism

UK, Ireland / Polish People are Welcome in Scotland [54]

Well - we will have to see. Let's measure in years and not weeks. The govt has promised lots in the election so it needs to generate high growth which will be very difficult.

UK, Ireland / Polish People are Welcome in Scotland [54]

I think the UK needs to find a way to make them happier with the arrangement - 50 percent support is dangerous, as any referendum will leave the Scotland very divided. It's not just about money for them many regions of England BTW are heavily subsidized by London.

So there are two ways to keep them sweet - more money (difficult as Brexit will hit the tax generating London economy hard for a few years) or more power (difficult as they might use it to push for full independence)

Travel / Opera theatres in Krakow [5]

No longer used for Opera but Poland has 3 beautiful Fellner and Helmer theatres - in Torun, Bielsko Biala and Cieszyn. The one in Torun is the nicest though a bit incongruous with the local brick architecture.

UK, Ireland / Polish People are Welcome in Scotland [54]

Probably they will stay but some polls this week put support for independence at 52 percent - a crushing majority according to Brexit logic. Young people especially are getting quite strong in their support for independence.

They would certainly be accepted as EU members but I think the current support levels for independence reflect the unpopularity of Boris and Brexit rather than the whole picture.

But the times are changing and for sure Brexit is going to split the Union in some way.

I spent a lot of time in the early 90s in Czechoslovakia and they said Slovakia would never survive without Czech money but it has done quite well since the break up. Same with Ireland - it has thrived in the EU.

Life / Why oh Why do Poles drive so incredibly poorly [109]

They are bad drivers but they are getting better - a big reason is that the roads are getting better and that makes people less impatient. The roads are also being built in a safer way - more bike lanes and traffic islands. I used to dread a long drive but now don't really think about it.

The par, king is not getting better however - Poles are terrible for their parking entitlements. One of the worst things is them parking in the disabled and family spaces while they go shopping.

Work / Got a Job Offer in Poland but a 3 month Visa and Probation Period concerns me [15]

I'm not going to ask myself that because I have no interest in the answer. You impute an awful lot about the guy on the basis of a few lines of questions and the odd bit of poor grammar. If he wants to use it a back door (and is there a front door ?) then that is no skin off my nose.
