Plenty of traditional dishes here that don't contain meat, however one issue (aside from the horrendous cruelty of factory farming) is all the wędliny, basically processed food and very unhealthy.
If you want an area of food in which Poland excels (perhaps the main area) think about the soups. Most of them not meat based and some of them excellent.

Most people now would say it was a very bad thing indeed. When looking back at the 'good old days' it's easy to forget that they were in fact very far from good for a lot of people.

Mmmm, and dachówki migdalowe too. Not originally from Poland however a few Warsaw bakeries have done them for decades and they are delicious.
Whenever I've served them here, Polish guests tend to assume they're a foreign delicacy however in fact they are very Warsaw.

Yes, that's true. And even a world of difference between that and those very few desperately unfortunate babies who even if they weren't aborted as foetuses before delivery have only a few days or weeks of extreme pain and distress to look forward to before an agonising death.
But hey, maybe that's "part of God's plan".
And they say that those of us who would end those wretched lives painlessly and with dignity are the bad guys.

Laws change. The abject failure of PIS attempts to turn the clock back suggest that in 20 years the law may well be very different. Right now, Polish women are happy to cross the border for medical procedures that are currently unavailable at home.

I like that one too, though the best one I've ever had was made by an elderly lady from Latvia, a priests wife. It was sticky and dripping with honey.
My favourite Polish cake is Wuzetka, a cake with an interesting Warsaw history.
My favourite cake in Poland was the one that was like a roll with honey and poppy seeds.....lovely!

Here, you just hear ciasto which doesn't really tell you very much. Don't even get onto pancakes, pikelets and blintzes.
On behalf of the entire Queen's realm I apologise for that awful tv show. Basically they found the most crass individuals possible and in fact dinner parties fell out of fashion because of it in the same way that clothing used to go out of fashion when people's servants started wearing it.

Common sense has prevailed and PIS has been wrongfooted. Nevertheless it would be naive to assume they don't have further religious-based plans up their sleeves that could hurt women, to be rolled out if their support level increases or they think they can get away with it. It's essential not to be complacent, something that can easily happen.
I read somewhere today that the IVF program is also being looked at. So maybe there is some hope for couples.

Remember that a comparison only really works if it's like for like. In Poland where almost 40% of the Population are engaged to some degree in agriculture and in the U.K. where the figure is around 1% we would need, in order to discuss teenage pregnancies, different sets of figures for close rural communities and larger urban groups. We'd also have to factor in the much stronger support structures especially financial, educational and housing in the U.K. Plus the lack of stigma concerning illegitimacy in the U.K. contrasted with that in Poland.

Yes, that's spot on. I was thinking the other day that the more egregious the repression, the bigger the backlash that follows - something the JK/Macierewicz/Solidarity generation ought to be very aware of.
Also a very bad idea to harass Doctors; the proposed bad change would potentially force some of them to make a choice between breaking their Doctors' Oath or breaking one of Jaro's 'laws'. Should that happen and should a prediction of the Doctor follow, the backlash within the medical profession would be a sight to see. It isnt that long ago that the Nurses' strike and their encampment on al. Ujazdowskie brought world-wide negative publicity as well as a groundswell of sympathy and support to the Nurses.
Some of their politicians are planning even more absurd propositions, particularly one about who can cohabit with whom. That would almost certainly lead not only to a cessation of EU infrastructure funding but also possible sanctions.

Don't be silly. It's barely begun. As opposed to the "bad change government" who are plummeting in the polls. With luck (and a bit of hard work on the part of patriotic, politically moderate Poles) it could be a re-run of their last aborted attempt at government.
The criticism over this bungled anti-woman political proposition is a nail in their coffin. Should JK mysteriously become premier, he and Duda can start to plan their retirement.
