News / Dodgy PRL-holdover judiciary finally reformed [420]

Basically a seedy midnight action by the junta. One that puts the judiciary under party control, and which commentators have described as the prelude to a coup d'etat.

Up till now, the courts, judges and their barrister sidekicks

Meaning an independent judiciary, rather than the dodgy Soviet-style system that the PiS junta want.

Poland's Sejm have passed legislation

In the middle of the night, even.

Study / Poznan Medical School [8]

I know Poznan is a really good medical school,

Yes, it's a good medical school. The questions would be similar to those anywhere

Feedback / I love this forum - It's so Polish: tolerant, inconsistent, amusing [337]

I just think that religion should be more in hearts than in public forums

I think you're right, Noreen. The founder of the main religion practised in Poland was very clear about that, praying in private, deeds more important than words, etc.

many Polish are far away from religion

More and more. A lot of people practise the cultural aspects, rites of passage, the liturgical year, without any real enthusiasm. Some, especially in the cities have no interest in it at all.

Life / How are electric cars doing in Poland? [413]

the electricity used to charge these batteries is in large part obtained from burning fossil fuels

Yes. This is something we have to work hard to reduce.

Law / What is NIP number? [15]

Since you're resident in a different country, they won't expect a NIP which is a reference number specifically for Polish taxpayers.

It's Index Copernicus International so many if not most of those who register won't have a NIP.

If it's an online form that needs something in that field, write 'not applicable' (in Polish 'nie dotyczy'), if the computer doesn't accept that, send an email to them to clarify what others do.

News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

Rather confirms that PiS don't know what they're doing if they can't get the money spent.

Quite. It's mostly that they refuse to sign off on projects since they want the dosh for "political purposes"...

Life / How are electric cars doing in Poland? [413]

This isn't now as popular as it used to be.

as far as electric cars I haven't seen one yet in poland

Same here. They haven't caught on yet, although there are some electric/hybrid commercial vehicles.

History / Film "Wałęsa" - historical reality vs myth - controvercies [110]

Everyone except diplomats are searched at airports.

They make you naked and take gloves, put their dirty little Anglo fingers in every hole in your body.

Don't be silly Crow. They pat you down if necessary and check your luggage if necessary. There is always a reason for that.

No wonder that brat Walese still walk like a zombie

That (and probably the reason for the routine pat-down) is probably more to do with vodka than anything else.
