I would ignore his homespun wisdom - he comes from the sort of village where they still remember serfdom fondly and they all share a few pairs of those shoes made from tree bark.

Like all the angry guys on here he has very limited real life contact with women

I think probably 70 percent of the country is in the safe legal and as rare as possible camp - but as in so many issues these days they don't seem to have a voice - social media and extremist politicians have seen to that

It's a bit of all 3 - the grey market economy is shrinking but still significant - maybe 15-20 percent of the total

Leasing is popular as is getting a company car - Polish managers will argue long and hard for a flash car and saying yes is an easy way of making them happy.

As for sacrifices, yes in all emerging economies you will often see people going for outward symbols of wealth first and spending on big ticket items like homes afterwards. They would also spend far less on things like healthcare, food and drink etc than the French would.

We normally have a piece of meat - say a chicken or a pork shoulder together with the left overs from Wigilia. When we are visiting other family it's normally the same plus maybe some kotlety and some devolaille. Quite often flaki too as there is a lot of drinking on Christmas Day in the afternoon.

In both Poland and i n the US Teachers need a degree and most people with degrees vote against PiS or in the US vote Democrat (that is a recent trend - people with degrees were happy to vote for Lech Kaczynski or Buzek or for Bush and Romney)

Teachers generally tend to be more altruistic which means they are more likely to vote for left wing parties.

Teachers generally have a strong sense of decency, setting example, fairness etc - these are personal qualities that PiS, Trump, Boris etc do not have that.

Teachers are more likely to look at news from several sources before making up their mind about something.

I gave enough risk in my day to day business so when I earned it I tend to be very conservative.

In the US I mostly hold safe stuff - Microsoft, lockheed, Starbucks etc. I know Microsoft dividend yields are about 1 percent right now.

I doubt Ziemo has done well in Polish stocks lately - it's been bad for 4-5 years now. Brokerage costs are also very high (banks are trying to recoup their lost profits that way)

At the moment that is quite difficult - the companies that used to pay reliably good dividends are mostly state controlled and the government has been extracting a lot of cash from them in the last few years. That's PZU, KGHM etc. In addition the government has stuffed their boards with cronies and it's difficult to get bottom line growth in those circumstances.

Other good dividends paid used to be the Polish banks, but they have been hit by taxes that have halved their profits. Other big players like LPP and CCC have suspended dividends due to Covid.

Look maybe at some of the pharma players in Poland that are listed ?

I think it will be like this for a few years - if you want dividends then you are better off with US stocks though even those have very low dividend yields right now.

It's not just the protests but the buses and trams and trains they used to get there.

I'm skeptical about the football games, Cheltenham or Trumps rose garden thing spreading the virus, but it's clear that if they did then this gathering last night also would do. Outdoor gatherings are either very dangerous or they are a bit dangerous or not dangerous at all. It will probably be decades before there is a scientific answer to that.

It's not a question of how educated people are or whether they wear masks. I saw plenty of people in village cemeteries today too.

That is very good news - there are a few memorials to Polish troops who fought alongside the Soviets in Berlin, Seelow, Sandau. But this one for civilian victims is much needed

Maybe it's more about looking forward than being self centered. Obsessing about Katyn, cursed soldiers or martial law or nocny zmiana won't make this society stronger. What it needs are working institutions and PiS have worked hard to destroy them.

No that's nonsense - while you were in the Polish Club lamenting the loss of the Dwor and the Uhlans lots of people were working hard to free and build a new country - that includes people from all sides of the current debate.

Their experience is still needed
