Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

there were plenty of poles killing jews to save themselves and their own families..

Put this into perspective. People of every country occupied in the war carried out acts to save their and their families lives. Self preservation is a stong instinct. We all like to think that we would act in a noble and righteous way. Pray that we never have to find out how we would react.

Food / What is your favorite Polish Vodka? [653]

Not sure if this was Polish Vodka but whatever it was I think I should keep a bottle handy!

Doctors save man with vodka drip
Australian doctors have kept an Italian tourist alive by feeding him vodka through a drip for three days, medical staff in Queensland say.

The 24-year-old man, who had swallowed a poison in an apparent suicide attempt, was treated while in a coma.

Life / Poles are not racist [873]

LOL ! You conquered half of the world, enslaved Negros for centuries,

I think we've finished with all that now.

still exploit huge numbers of foreign workers

most workers are exploited these days. If people want to undercut the local rates of pay that's a conscious decision on their part. Capitalism is alive and kicking. We were one of the few to open our employment market to the A8 countries and we get all the stick for doing it. jeez. We have open borders. People can walk away any time.

Life / Why are Poles always so miserable? Why do they never smile? [512]

If the English are miserable

We're not generally miserable so there must be another reason. Who are the smileys and why did PF remove them??? <insert smiley indicating that I'm not really taking the **** out of the post, just indulging in a bout of gentle messing cos I'm really rather bored this evening>

UK, Ireland / Warning to British people visiting Poland!! Don't get drunk and smash the place up! [447]

The line between high jinks and antisocial behaviour is a fine one. Probably the width of one beer too many. What really hacks me off is that some of the people who cross that line should know better. In many cases they are not uneducated dumbos but professional males who act like loonies when away with their mates. Best solution would be to photograph them and stick the images on a web site where their wives could see them.

- That's low, Decorator

Not really - just Brit humour in response to a blinkered view on us I think Puzzler. Your other post was the key to this discussion. What does propel some of my countrymen to disgrace themselves and our country in alcohol fuelled stupidity? I wish I knew the answer to that one. We can no longer hind behind the 'it's a minority' argument as the minority appears to be becoming more significant as time goes on.

Life / Why are Poles always so miserable? Why do they never smile? [512]

Most Poles look like they in bad mood or the girls have periods.

Like I said elsewhere on this Forum, smiling and pleasantries are used differently in central and eastern Europe. At first it's a bit disconcerting but you get used to it. When the smiles do come they are just great. Stop moaning, I would love to be back out there.

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

I feel the need to defend my fellow countrymen.

Thanks Sapphire. I am too much of a gentleman to argue with ladies in public and would have been unable to defend myself and other Brit blokes:)

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

darn, if Grzegorz is in charge I will never get in

You've got a much better chance than me M:)

Having been away for a few days I get the distinct impression that every discussion is being recycled. I am tempted to start a new thread. Options include:

1) Existentialism. As a reaction against more traditional philosophies, such as rationalism and empiricism, does it provide a realistic alternative.

2) Was Wanda Rutkiewicz the greatest advertisement ever for the Polish people?

3) I once fell madly in love with a Polish girl but she had an Iron Curtain for a chastity belt.

:) :) :)
