News / Thousands of Polish women attend Czarny Piątek rally in Warsaw [780]

their number is decreasing

Hence the success of Czarny Piątek.

single countryside males with such sick attitudes like you will remain single all their life

Still single and living with parents in his 30s. But hey, he's a great expert about women and what they want :-D

Food / Traditional Polish Soups. [85]

it is a disgrace to tradition

Good; culinary traditions continuously evolve. I doubt many people here would enjoy a typical Polish diet from 1650.

Tofu can also be used as a substitute...

News / Anti-Defamation League want Macierewicz (Poland defense minister) appointment withdrawn - GW [42]

even PiS was fed up with his nuttery

Completely barking. Appointing that young protegé, the one with the pudding-basin haircut, did him no favours either.

a hoax concocted by

A complete fake, cobbled together almost word for word from various sources including a French satire and a German novel; exposed as a fraud a century ago. Not much use as a secret plan either, given how vague it was.

Life / Superstitions in Poland [60]

I like it when a black cat crosses the street, I treat it as an omen of good fortune.

Me too. Normal in Northern England and Scotland. In Poland, however, I know people who really dislike this.

History / 75th anniversay of Dr Janusz Korczak's death - a true Polish hero [26]

An interesting article about him here:
pgplaterow.pl/index.php/o-szkole/patron/419-25-lat-z-korczakiem

It doesn't mention his radio show, "Gadaninki Starego Doktora", very popular in its day. Maybe there's still a tiny number of people alive who've met him, though obviously fewer and fewer as time goes on. I met someone (more than 10 years ago and in her 90s then) who knew him slightly through his connection with General Karasiewicz-Tokarzewski and their shared esoteric activities. He was remarkable and very special. He was well connected enough to have been able to leave the ghetto; he was offered this and refused to leave the orphans and his helper Stepha alone.

A couple more articles:

Love / Do Polish men make good husbands? [108]

In that case a robotic vacuum cleaner would be a good replacement.

I suspect there are plenty of women in Poland and beyond who'd gladly swap their husbands for a vibrator that can put shelves up...

Law / How do I verify a Polish company's existence? [249]

Remember the KRS extract just confirms the legal status. It doesn't (and legally can't) reflect other issues such as the way a company and its customers interact.

Real Estate / Selling property in Poland [30]

Gumtree can be quite effective; usually better than bottom-feeding agents.

Language / Diminutive Words for Breads, Loaves, etc [20]

There's a bakery connection. Worth googling the song. The Beata Rybotycka version is the popular one here.

I think the original is in Yiddish, however the Polish-language version is well established.

"Ach, kupcież bubliczki,
Gorące bubliczki,
Gdy macie rubliczki,
Nakarmię was! "

Life / Gdynia, Lodz, Lublin, Rzeszow for expats? [13]

Even ones living there?

Poznań? Yes,

Is Wawa the only place for that? No offence, but I prefer Lodz to Wawa

Not too far to travel between them. The industry is very small here though.

Life / Gdynia, Lodz, Lublin, Rzeszow for expats? [13]

Most agencies are in Warsaw, and the people who do it are either based there or travel in, however there is certainly some extra work in Łódż. Forget Poznań, it's a closed shop to outsiders.

Life / Gdynia, Lodz, Lublin, Rzeszow for expats? [13]

In the UK, the entertainment industries certainly aren't all in the capital/s like London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, though obviously larger cities have much more in them. Hence Lublin, Rzeszów being non-starters and Gdynia (though it's really a satellite of Gdańsk) having fewer opportunities than Warsaw, Łódź etc. The more people, the more opportunities as a rule.

You don't really specify what you mean by 'entertainment industry'. Theatre, filming, classical music, ballet, cabaret, wedding singers, opera, pop music, TV work, badger-baiting, pavement art, living statues, striptease or pub comedians? It's a broad term...

Law / How do I verify a Polish company's existence? [249]

Yes it exists; this link is to the registry of companies:
krs-online.com.pl/holdinwest-sp-z-o-o-krs-294620.html

It has been a registered company since 2008.
