Its much better to have politicians who have experience of managing political institutions - they know that you have to build coalitions, hear different points of view etc. The sooner the world gets back to professional politicians the better.

Re controlling the courts then the worst thing was makinG the Justice Minister also the Director of Prosecutions - it's an obvious and very dangerous step to using the courts to political ends,

Re leadership of Eastern Europe then it might never have been but it should have been - Poland has overtaken Hungary and Czech in wealth a few years ago, and Warsaw has become just as cosmopolitan and business like as Prague and Budapest and Vienna.

My 3 top reasons

Threat to democracy - especially trying to control the courts

Weakening Poland's position in Europe - Poland should be the natural leader of Eastern Europe but it has lost that role and the moderate democracies like Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania etc do not look up to Poland

Renationalization - I'm not opposed to keeping strategic assets in state ownership, but PiS just uses state companies to feed and water an army of untalented cronies

I was doing well until the government forcibly shut my business with no compensation and no support.

Who cares what it was like in February ? now it is completely screwed and it is the governments fault that they were unprepared for this, had overspent on kielbasa and then wouldn't support hard working Poles.

You can quote those taxes because living abroad you don't pay any of them.

It's not so easy to reverse - once a class of people gets used to handouts it quickly is treated as a basic right rather than a benefit and that belief also travels across generations. France is a good example

There is a status of Outative Spouse in some US states I read - it means where you are married but it turns out the marriage is invalid because one of the parties was married before, because one of them thought their husband was dead when in fact he had just disappeared and various other Wild West explanations,

Bit no that status does not exist in Poland - you have to go through some hoops to get the right paperwork to show you can get married And probably they expect other countries to have the same standards.

Just put a ring on it if you are in love - that will solve all your problems with whether you are married or not.

And another key similarity between PiS and the PRL is that being boss of the party is a bigger job than being the elected president or prime minister - the voters are treated with contempt, though 50 percent of them are happy with it.

I think it's important that once PiS rule finishes - as it will one day - that Kaczynskis enablers in TVP, in the courts and in state owned businesses never work again and are treated as pariahs in polite society.
