Food / What is your favorite Polish Vodka? [653]

Reading Pan Tadeusz by Mickiewicz to my kids we ran into a passage about Polish gentry of 1811 drinking famous vodka from Gdańsk. It is called GoldWasser - Gold Water - and indeed contains little flakes of gold.

Watch it poured into glasses

Love / What happens when you marry into a Polish family... [19]

I've seen many, many, really many comments by Polish people writing about their toxic parents

It`s sad but if you say so, it must be true. However, we don`t know what the ratio of toxic families is in the society.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

14 year old boy found a WW2 carbine in the forest and accidentally wounded his sister

The latest finding is that the boy took the WW2 carbine that his father had found in the woods earlier and kept in the house. While playing with it, brother shot at his sister.

Both father and son have been detained for further investigation.

This still corroborates my theory that giving guns to Poles will end with national massacre.

And I am not alone.

Poles do not want easier access to firearms
IBRiS researched for Radio Zet what Poles think about the idea of easier access to firearms. A total of 29 percent viewed the initiative favorably, of which 15 percent "definitely". The supporters of the ruling right wing coalition are more in favor of liberalizing the regulations than the opposition. On the other hand, 65 percent respondents, of whom 33 percent "strongly" said they were opposed to facilitating access to guns. 6 percent respondents have no opinion on this matter.

News / The Baltics states rely on Poland as their main defender against Russian aggression?? [213]

Joint statement by Poland and the Baltics on Russian participation in the Olympics

Latvian Foreign Minister said:

Decision by @Olympics to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in the next Olympics is immoral and wrong. 🇷🇺continues its war against 🇺🇦, it must be isolated. As all tyrannies it uses sports for political purpose. IOC should not become complicit in 🇷🇺propaganda efforts

Poland and other Baltics agreed and announced further efforts to block Russian athletes.

USA, Canada / Would a Polish woman marry to get into the USA? [41]

the girl is having a real bad life in Poland, I cannot see any logical reason to want to marry just to get into USA

That was true in communist times. Leaving Poland for a Western country was considered a passage to Paradise.

Today, no more.

I prefer to marry a girl that is not too connected to family,

A girl not connected with her family is wanton in most cases. Are you sure that`s who you are looking for? It refers to males, too.

News / Unfulfilled promises by PiS [559]

Journalists of tvn24.pl described how money from the fund of the Minister of Education, Przemysław Czarnek, went to organizations close to Law and Justice

More comments on the PiS scandal which prove that PiS men purposefully hugged (in the sense of illegal appropriation) huge sum of public money against all moral standards::

Justyna Suchecka-Jadczak, co-author of a series of articles, visited TVN24 on Wednesday. As she said, "this is disgusting, it is something very opaque, competitions take place in the shadows, in an atmosphere of understatements, those who have good connections and know what is to be won - enroll, win, will use the funds, and all the rest must wait".

- An extreme example, which we will write about, is a foundation from Rzeszów, which had been established just three days before the deadline for applications for Minister Czarnek's competition. But there are more such organizations that were established in 2022 and 2021. They operate for a shorter period than the period for which they committed themselves to operate in the area of education and upbringing. These foundations are often unable to demonstrate any activities related to education, she said.

The journalist also pointed out that "this competition was very short, there was a month to submit applications." - Non-governmental organizations that live on subsidies say that it is impossible to prepare an honest, reliable plan in a month, which will have a calculated budget - she said.

This, she said, "can be seen in these application forms." - Apart from, of course, punctuation errors, typos, we also have wrong addresses (...), there are applications in which it looks as if the first building in this amount was entered, things are listed that are hard to believe that they are needed for education . For example, paintball balls and guns, because in this way one of the organizations would like to teach defensive skills. Of course, this can be called an educational goal, but it is very doubtful - said Suchecka-Jadczak. There are also sentences and fragments that resemble applications written by artificial intelligence." - Such sentences: "education is the most important, it is our common cause, the future of the next generations, the fate of Poland depends on education." (...) Such empty words, bs speech - she quoted.

Thank you , PiS gangsters, for such clever appropriation of public money!

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

If such things are possible, it means we are still mentally in Eastern Europe.

Sad but true. PiS have been corrupting all political and moral standards beyond any limits since they came to power.
PiS always denies they are involved in corruption scandals and blames the previous government, the current opposition or the independent media. PiS scams are covered by PiS Ministry of (In)Justice and state media which they own.

In a normal European country, the public pressure would force the corrupted dsicredited politicians to resign. Not in Poland.

I must admit that Poland under PiS has become an Eastern European country again. What a shame!

Only the change of the gov will save Poland and bring it back to Europe.

News / Unfulfilled promises by PiS [559]

PiS promising to put end to such practices. Not only didn`t they end them but they even increased intensity of sucking the budget like leeches.

The latest scandal with PiS draining state public assets.

Journalists of tvn24.pl described how money from the fund of the Minister of Education, Przemysław Czarnek, went to organizations close to Law and Justice. Multi-million subsidies were allocated for the purchase of new premises. Houses in Warsaw's Mokotów and Ursynów districts, an apartment in a historic tenement house and a plot with two ponds, its own forest and a "beekeeper's house" are just some of the 12 properties that Czarnek financed with public money.

One of the beneficiaries of the program is the Polska Wielki Projekt Foundation, founded, among others, by Zdzisław Krasnodębski, PiS MEP. According to the application to the Ministry of National Education and Science, its "programming council" includes, among others: Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński , PiS MEPs Zdzisław Krasnodębski and Ryszard Legutko, director of the Government Information Center Tomasz Matynia, publicist Bronisław Wildstein, advisor to the president Andrzej Zybertowicz, former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jacek Czaputowicz and husband of the President of the Constitutional Tribunal Andrzej Przyłębski.

After 5 years, the properties can be sold. And they will be sold by PiS owners for millions, to finance their next election campaigns. Very clever!

notesfrompoland.com/2023/01/24/harmful-leftist-entities-wont-receive-our-grants-says-education-minister/

Explanation by PiS Minister who is so generous for his party:

"I repeat: everything is being and will be done in accordance with the law and we will continue to support this type of excellent organisation, and harmful and leftist entities will not receive any money from the education ministry," declared Czarnek.

OK, he rejects leftists. Let it be. But why did he shower only PiS institutions with public money?

Fekking PiS leeching gangsters! They have increased the rate of sucking Poland before the autumn elections which they are going to lose badly.

If such things are possible, it means we are still mentally in Eastern Europe.

kids being taught how to handle weapons from a young age

Like in America. Schwarzenegger cop comes to kindergarten and teaches kids how to handle guns. I know coz I watched it in a film.
But in Poland it would require to change the mentality of millions and before the results bring effect, there would be hundreds if not thousands accidents.

Thank you.

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

Last week while still sitting in the classroom after the lesson I was approached by two female students from the final grade. They were visibly embarrassed and reluctant to speak but eventually they confided that some students (no names!) from their form had been cheating in tests for years. They use special pens in which you can put handwritten or printed cribs under the blue cover so that nobody can see from a distance of 1-2 meters. Very useful stuff for vocabulary tests which I do regularly.

Amasing! I was shocked learning about it. Can you imagine??? :):):):) Man learns new things all his/her life.

I had thought it was enough to ban smart watches and phones during a test. But an ordinary pen?? When I was a boy, there were pens with sliding multiplication table.

I asked about it in other forms and students told me they all knew about the pens but didn`t use them

See how the pen works:

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

The latest news is that a 14 year old boy found a WW2 carbine in the forest and accidentally wounded his sister while cleaning the iron. She is in a serious condition.

if the law changes, I imagine hundreds of such accidents each year when kids find parents` guns and start playing with them.

The police are explaining the circumstances of the incident. It is not yet known how the 11-year-old was shot
The RMF24 portal reported that the police talked to the boy right after the accident. He said he found the rifle in the woods. "The shot occurred while cleaning the gun. It was an accident because the rifle just suddenly went off," the portal wrote.

some revelation about Ukrainian students

To my great surprise, the names of our Ukrainian students in documents issued from the school office are written with English spelling. Amasing!

Natalya Morzhakova instead of Natalia Morżakowa

Varvara Boychuk instead of Barbara Bojczuk

Polina Kravchenko instead of Paulina Krawczenko.

Victoria Mikchailov instead of Wiktoria Michajłow.

Tatyana Shcherbina instead of Tatiana Szczerbina.

etc etc

Of course the names I provided are ficticious, but perfectly reflect the unusual spelling of real ones in my school.

I have to go and ask the school office workers why they are using it. First I supposes it was sth connected with political correctness. You know, to avoid potential offence if Ukrainians see their names spelled in Polish.

I am not sure now. It is also possible that such spelling comes from official documents which Ukrainians receive from Polish authorities. Do the EU refugee status regulations require such spelling???

Language / Which books do native Polish people in Poland use to learn Polish? [72]

when you possess such a curious gadget as his car.

Somewhere in the middle of the series, the author introduces the second gadget, living, for a change - namely an amazing specimen of a Great Dane. The dog initially tries to dominate Mr Buggy and he worries about his position in the house but with passage of time they become good friends and cooperate nicely to catch artifact thieves.

This cover version of the book I borrowed from my school library seems the most attractive

Mr Buggy and the Mother of all Mysteries.

describing yourself?

Of course not.
I am talking about Mr Buggy.

He`s :
intelligent coz he is able to solve various riddles and mysteries
knowledgeable coz he studied history and art and is a full time worker of a Historic Department in the Ministry of Culture.
caring coz he cares about his friends and helpers and protects them from rogues.
brave coz he faces danger without hesitation whenever necessary
reliable coz he doesn`t cheat, lie, manipulate. .
determined - coz he doesn`t rest until he finds the hidden lost treasures.
adventurous and crazy - it is easy to do when you possess such a curious gadget as his car.

Shyt! This means he is perfect.

I have always liked such heroes. True role models for young readers. HA!

Mr Buggy,

The books were designed for young readers so there isn`t anything too romantic in their plots. However, the author delicately suggests that the protagonist has or soon will have closer affairs with all the beautiful women he meets during his adventures - both his rivals or helpers in his quest to find lost treasures. Those females initially consider him a harmless pussy but soon they change their mind and find out he is not only extremely intelligent and knowledgeable but also caring, reliable, brave, determined, adventurous and a little crazy coz he possesses such a crazy car. That`s what females look for in males. :):):)

We should remember that the author, Zbigniew Nienacki, wrote a few books for adult readers which caused huge scandals with their indecent content. :):):)

Mr Buggy and his female rival, Mrs Petersen, who competes with him to find the Templars` treasure as first.

You don't seem to understand what I write and communicate differently.

No, I don`t. When sb writes the following

such symbols are worse and far more evil then swastikas.

a normal understanding is that you are calling for a ban because svastikas are banned already so sth worse than a svastika must be banned, too. Isn`t it logical?

If you aren`t calling for a ban, why are you using such strong words as worse than svastika at all????

That`s what I don`t understand.

I am not here proposing laws, governmental policies or when people should be punished.

So why did you say
such symbols are worse and far more evil then swastikas.

That was calling for the ban. So far, popular LGBT symbols haven`t been officially banned by the state and can be displayed without consequences. Anybody can wear a rainbow badge or accessory like a bag or a rainbow flag etc.

I am sure the insurgents wouldn`t mind such freedom after they listened to the arguments presented by LGBT activists.
