History / Cursed soldiers controvercy - not all Poles respect them [320]

Did any of them survive and pay for their criminal activities during the post-war period?

Only a few did, coz most had already been dead when Poland got rid of communism. Some were living in other countries which refused to extradite the criminals due to the old age or other reasons (Israel always refuses to extradite its citizens) .

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Humer

Arrested in 1994, in March 1996 Humer and 11 other functionaries of the UB were convicted as Poland's first post-independence Stalinist criminals for their role in the routine torture and execution of members of the Polish Underground Resistance during the Stalinist era. Sentenced to nine years in prison, he died during a break in sentence.

History / Other famous Polish battles [24]

80 years ago, in Nazi occupied Warsaw, the combat scouts from underground Assault Groups of the Grey Ranks unit attacked a German lorry transporting political prisoners and freed all of them. The event went down in history as the Action at the Arsenal.

Today the book which describes those heroic people and their incredible deeds is on the book reading list for Polish class in primary school.

This is one of the most important military actions of the Gray Ranks Assault Groups in occupied Poland. As part of a daring operation near the Arsenal building, 80 years ago, scoutmaster "Rudy" and 20 other political prisoners who were transported from the Gestapo headquarters at Aleja Szucha to Pawiak prison were freed. Its heroes - "Alek", "Zośka", "Anoda" - became legends, which was also due to their immortalization in the book "Kamienie na Szaniec".

Assault Groups is a unique organization in the history of World War II. It united scouts over the age of 18 who participated in many combat and sabotage operations, but also within its framework, for example, non-commissioned officers were trained. It was subordinated to Kedyw, i.e. the Home Army's Subversion Directorate. They were assigned to the most important actions against the German occupiers.

Scouts from these groups took part in, among others, in the actions of blowing up bridges, German trains, rescuing prisoners, such as high-profile actions near the Arsenal or Celestynów, or attacks on the officers of the German terror apparatus. Among them was a successful assassination attempt on the commander of the Warsaw police and the SS, Franz Kutschera, after which the Germans stopped executions that had previously been carried out in public on the streets of the city.

The most courageous of the brave, ready to sacrifice their lives for Poland, belonged to the Assault Groups .The operation was one of the most famous in occupied Poland and greatly contributed to building the myth of the Gray Ranks.

Soviets were part of anti-Nazi coalition only because Hitler backstabbed them in 1941. Before Barbarossa Stalin was perfectly happy to be Hitler's ally and supplier.

Novi perfectly knows all this. However, our forum darling feels compelled to provoke and flame. But we still love him coz he is OUR darling, nobody else`s. :):):)

History / Cursed soldiers controvercy - not all Poles respect them [320]

The latest controversy is that the National Bank has issued a coin with Józef Kuraś who is considered by some as a heroic cursed soldier while by others as a villain and murderer.

We talked about him a few times in this thread, e;g,
https://polishforums.com/history/cursed-soldiers-controvercy-poles-respect-84588/8/#msg1836481

NBP announced that from Saturday (March 18) a new collector's coin from the series "Unbroken soldiers cursed by the communists" will be available for sale. This time with the image of the Podhale partisan Józef Kuraś "Fire".

The 10 zloty coin is made of Ag 925 silver, has a diameter of 32 millimeters and a weight of 14.14 grams. It will be available for purchase at all NBP Regional Branches and in the Collector online store for PLN 200 .

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

This polonaise dance prepared for a high school prom ball in the city of Toruń by a professional choreographer has attracted very positive reviews. Most viewers are enthralled.

However, I hate it, personally. The decor and costumes are depressingly dark. Students look unnaturally stiffened and dance like robots. And the music is so horribly shrill. Were they crazy when they did it???

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

The first day of spring, 21March, is an opportunity for students to play truant. Sort of tradition, already cultivated in communist times. There are differences, though. In primary schools only a few students skip classes on this day. In high schools, most do.

In my younger times, we used to get together somewhere in town and go to the park for a picnic or campfire.
Today, generation Z students just stay at home and contact their peers through electronic media.
Pity.

How many civilian Koreans, Vietnamese and Iraqis did Western "democracies"

And do you know of any monuments to Western democrats in the countries you mentioned??

No, you don`t.

That is why monuments to Soviet "democrats" who "liberated" Poland must go. Simple.

Another issue of course in Poland is the urban/rural divide. a big gap like that.

You probably meant that countryside education is worse than urban one.

Paradoxically, it is changing now. Due to all failed PiS deforms in education, urban teachers are first to quit their jobs coz they have plenty of other opportunities in cities. While rural teachers stay coz they don`t have too many options.

As a result, urban education is going to the dogs due to the lack of teachers.

A pointless piece of reform. that's not PIS style.

Exactly. Those rightists are complete morons, unable to introduce anything innovative which could really solve immense problems which have been accumulating for years.

Life / Boys acting and dressing feminine, girls acting and dressing masculine - transgender teens in Poland [272]

Just look at the mess you have made of our small town values.
1. Suicide rate has sky rocketed

This first point proves your whole list of liberal faults against the society is bollox. Suicide rate is SLIGHTLY higher than before not as a result of liberal agenda but due to pandemic isolation regulations. In Poland, it was introduced by rightist PiS, not liberals.

Other points in your list are similar lies and manipulations. You should be ashamed of posting such sht here. Ha!

Travel / Hiking and Camping Trails in Poland [51]

So, how does it work in Poland?

It works fine and is quite cheap, but sometimes campers are too noisy at night - I remember arguing with people over it regularly when we used to go camping. Once I entered a sleeping guy`s tent and turned off his loud TV - it was around 11.30

it was the "barbarians" who won WW2 and liberated Poland.

First, in 1939, those barbarians had attacked and conquered Eastern Poland in collusion with Hitler who took the western and central parts. Later, Soviet barbarians murdered 22.000 Polish POWs.

if you consciously ignore it, you are a liar and manipulator. As usual. :):):)

All in all, we don`t need Soviet liberation monuments here. Cemeteries are a different matter as they are regulated by international law.

I have always believed Russians don`t need to make their own vodka coz the one they get in shops is cheap and affordable even for the poor.

wtf do they care what independent country does and where it moves it's monuments.

That act of removing a Soviet monument was an act of disrespect to Russians. Being trampled and trodden on by their regime and its henchmen, they crave respect from foreigners. . Decades ago I read a reportage by a Polish journalist who travelled across Russia. Each time he drank vodka with locals, he was eventually asked the same question: Do you respect me???

That is some huge complex of Russians.

History / "Westerner's" most ridiculous beliefs about the time of communism in Poland [73]

In reality, this thread is proof that Poland had an entirely different atmosphere to that which existed in the USSR.

Yes, I still remember that Soviet group who I was sitting next to in the cinema watching the X rated Polish sci-fi film titled Soft Spots. It was in 1981. The film waited for a year to go on screen due to explicit scenes.

How about assigning a homework to do: "watch an English speaking movie once a month

If that was so easy.... :):):)

Unfortunately, students at final exams, both primary school and high school leaving exams, have to deal with serious stuff like Reported Speech or 3rd Conditional. You can get the knack of them from films only on condition you are a brilliant person. Less intelligent ones won`t grasp such problems unless they are formally educated at school. :):):)
