Language / Polish slang phrases - most popular. [606]

I'd like to impress him with a few dirty words in the bed room.

Get a scrabble set....throw all the letters on the bed.....its bound to spell something rude in Polish....

i find it ironic the a nun was cured of parkinsons by praying to a pope who died of it.

Maybe he took it from her....?

Life / Are Polish roads really this bad? [237]

Well , my reason for going to Ukraine was to spend some time with my Russian girlfriend .... we can both go there without any visa problems....I drove from Poland , she got the night train from Moscow...

My next long journey will be to drive to Russia to be with my lady on a permenant basis , so there will not be a need for us to meet in Ukraine...

However , we both have some very nice memories of our time in Kiev , and we both like the city so for sure we will go back there at some point in the future....

Incidentally...yesterday it was one year since we last met in Kiev....so we are kinda missing each other a bit now....

I really don't know how they will be ready for 2012 Euro

When i went to Kiev the main road to Kiev was being resurfaced , but only in intermittant patches,,the bits they had done were nice and smooth , but in between each smooth section were long stretches of road that were quite capable of doing damage , even to a Jeep....

I had to replace both rear springs when i got back to Poland....

It will be nice when its done though....

I passed through £odz . then i think south to Rzeszow... I was heading for Ternopil on the Harley which is just the other side of Lwow...

On my second trip i went in my Jeep to Kiev...

No really bad roads on either trip , untill i got into Ukraine...

I rode my Harley all the way from my farm near Drawsko pomorskie to Ukraine...the only bad bit of road i came across was in the city of Lodz where it was quite badly rutted , with sticking up tram lines...

The rest of the journey was on good smooth roads...bear in mind that Harley sportsters do not have the best suspension in the world....

It was all smooth untill i got into Ukraine.... thats another story.....

i understand that a lot of deaths are pedestrians

So do they need to educate pedestrians better...or maybe teach car drivers to stop ignoring pedestrian crossings...?

Where i live you have to be carefull on the country roads around here at night , as its not unusual to encounter drunken people in the road in dark clothing , or cyclists without lights....

It would be interesting to know if Poles actually have more accidents than Brits for example , or is it just that the Poles are more likely to die in their accidents due to the high number of roadside trees , and the fact they seem unwilling to wear seat belts....

what does it matter where they are as that is just being pedantic

Well , it only matters because to solve the problem of the high accident rate you need to know why the accidents are happening....

I have also mentioned Polish drivers are generally good drivers, because they have to be ( due to roads, single lanes and weather conditions) FACT (I am sure most Poles will agree with me)

The problem in Poland is that drivers are driving to fast on roads that you really should be a little more carefull on....

Most of the accidents i see around my part of Poland seem to be due to drivers making contact with other vehicles due to the narrow roads , or going off the road and hitting one of the many trees around here... yes , drink is a factor in this...Where i live you can go to a bar , get drunk , and drive home with little chance of meeting a police car on the way , that and the fact there are few taxis around here is one important factor...

I just don,t see the level of gross stupidity that i saw in the UK , when i am riding my Harley i don,t have the constant emergency stops , and major swerves to avoid death that i had in the UK , so saying that Poles are just bad drivers is not correct in my opinion....

I dare say the situation in cities is a little different , but even when i worked here as a truck driver , and went all over Poland , i did not see the level of stupidity that i saw back in the UK....

You can,t ignore the fact that Poland does have a bad accident rate , but to suggest that all Poles are idiots who can,t drive is missing something....i just don,t see it...

As Warszawski says , it would be interesting to see when and where most of these accidents happen , could it be that its at holiday times when old farts that don,t drive very often get onto unfamiliar roads and mix with fast driving young drivers.....?

Where i live i have seen several fatal accidents on the roads , most of them were accidents where only one car was involved , the car hit a tree...the driver was drunk....

Wildy, you are not supposed to go out on the Harley, when its -25 and 40cm of snow.

Ha...my Harley hibernates in such conditions....i have a Jeep cherokee for the bad weather...

and British road rage

Now you come to mention it... i have never ever seen any road rage in Poland...

People seem to be quite happy to be stuck behind a slow moving tractor without blowing their horn and getting all wound up....

Yes..... i prefer driving over here compared to the UK.... even though its a little more risky...

News / John Paul II's Beatification [134]

I am not Polish , i am not any follower of the faith , in fact i believe it all to be a load of nonsense , but despite that i think that Jan Pawel was a great man , loved and respected by millions , and somebody the Polish nation has every right to be proud of....

i would like to have met him...

Sadly the subject of the covered up child abuse scandal will feature once again in the news , hopefully Jan Pawel is not involved in any of the cover up.... i suspect its the lower ranks that did this , and kept much of it from the Pope himself....

The weather conditions in Poland require that good quality materials are used , but sadly its often done on the cheap , and soon starts falling apart again....

The motorways in Poland seem to be good quality , and as a biker in Poland i have to say that overall i dont find the roads here too bad....

But then i have ridden and driven in Ukraine , Belarus , and Russia...compared to these places , Polish roads are pretty dam good...!

Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1442]

Probably a mix of all those things.... Mushrooms cooked in oil in Poland do not have that horrid smell i remember back in the UK , and they have some taste to them , maybe because they were picked out of the forest minutes before we ate them.....

At the time i did wonder if it was my last day of life , as the guys from my bike club were all well drunk when we went on the mushroom hunt...

Thankfully , Poles , even when drunk can spot the difference between edible mushrooms and the kind that kill you....

I guess i just like the taste of real food , rather than the processed chemical filled junk we eat in the UK.... I miss British fish and chips tho....

Yes , my lady has a Dacha that belonged to her parents , her daughter lives there now , and when we sell one of the flats in Moscow we will be buying a house in the country , so i am looking forward to country cooking....well any kind of cooking would be an improvement on what i eat now....

Why not?

I think it began because of the revoulting smell in the kitchen when my mum fried mushrooms.... i would not touch the dam things.... first time i ever ate any was at the age of 55... in Poland...

Never ate tomatoes either till i came here.... still would not eat UK ones.....
