Plane of the LOT Polish Airlines Boeing 767 crash-landed in Warsaw Okecie . On board were 231 people. No one was injured. The machine had an emergency landing after it has slid chassis . Despite this , the pilot safely seated on the machine airstrip . The hero is Captain Tadeusz Wrona . During the landing appeared a small fire, but the airport service was immediately suppressed .

Amazingly perfect belly landing from the pilots.. This particular 767 was built in 96 so not that ancient asia

To be fair, you don't know that.

Ironside, how many minutes before departure did you arrive at the gate? was it an iternational or domestic flight?

Did they put you on the next flight? How much extra did you have to pay?

Well as you know ironside, many of the areobridges are unused and they still buses to ship people out to the planes. Therefore if you were late to boarding it might have been more of an effort than at an aero bridge, but yes you are right to an extent, it actually takes another 10 or so minutes to find the passengers bag and offload so sop is to delay the flight slightly for the passenger who has checked in but not yet boardedl.

Now i feel this may have been an individual staff problem and not an indictment of lot in general. They have made some good strides lately, and considering their ceo is only on 200k or so, are playing it smart. Their new long haul route to vietnam has been a sucsess and the only reason their long haul planes appear old is that they are waiting for the massively delayed 787s, like everyone else.

UK, Ireland / Brits say being drunk senseless while visiting Poland is national trait [98]

As I said the signs have been changed to no stag parties. Since 100 percent of tourist stag parties are english or british. Its quite easy to see what they are implying. Stag parties give all poms a bad name in poland. Also there are several skinhead bars that will collect english scalps.

UK, Ireland / Brits say being drunk senseless while visiting Poland is national trait [98]

More than a quarter of Britons think getting drunk senseless in Poland is a national characteristic, according to a survey released to mark England's national day.

An Opinium Research poll of 2,012 British adults found that 60 per cent thought drinking tea was a national trait, closely followed by talking about the weather.

Forty per cent associated a "stiff upper lip" mentality - stoicism in the face of adversity - with being British.

Meanwhile 32 per cent thought supporting the royal family was a British characteristic, as the country gears up for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday.

Twenty-eight per cent thought that getting drunk senseless and being an absolute twat while vistiting Poland was a British attribute, while fewer than one in three thought working hard made people British.

"Our research has revealed that it's hard to pin down what it means to be British, but being a drunken wanker in Poland is a defining characteristic" said Opinium Research managing director James Endersby.

"With several stereotypical attributes making the list as well as wider personality traits, it goes to show that Britishness is a complex mix of characteristics."

News / Raising Poland's legal drinking age to 21 [95]

Obviously, authorities are seeing a problem with alcohol addiction in Poland, that is why they want to do something about it. They should be applauded for caring, not criticized and condemned. The 21 and up law is a good idea

Well yes, the more freely avaible a substance is the more it can be misused. But the flip side incarcerating people for utilising that substance. Cigarettes are as addictive as morphine do you support the prohibition of cigarretes?

People knew it was addictive because they got addicted to it. They figured it out.

Thats circular logic, there were no warning labels, it was sold in an unregulated market to an uneducated populace. Do you think oxycontin would have got so popular if the drug maker/doctors had told users it was as addictive as heroin?>

News / Raising Poland's legal drinking age to 21 [95]

If everything were legal, addiction rates would be much higher. People used to get addicted to morphine in large numbers when it was available over the counter in various tonics..

That's not true, when morphine was legal most people were not aware of its addiction potential, it was marketed as a cure for all. There's a greater question here, should goverments have the right to make criminals out of people consuming a certain substance.

Regulation rather than legalisation is the way to go.

As for the 21 year law it won't work. But other regulations such as the hours you can buy alcohol would.

For instance in oz you can buy alcohol only from special 'bottle shops' which close at 10pm.
Most alcohol problems occur once the bottle of vodka has been drunk and then you wander off at midnight or 3am to get another. Having limited opening hours might curb this problem.

Travel / Why most taxis in Warsaw cheat foreigners to get more money? [38]

In Poland the taxi market is what we call the 'amerykanski rynek' meaning american laisre faire capitalism, that is anyone can put a taxi sign on their car and call themselves a taxi and there is no enforcement to stop it. 70 percent of the taxis you see in warsaw are fake and not regulated.

There are only three real taxi companies in warsaw, i suggest you use one of them and you will always get a fare ride. i recomend MPT. The taxi drivers who pay go to the trouble and are legit regularly have big fist fights with the fake taxi drivers..

its crazy
