History / What should Russia and Poland do to become if not friends, then at least not enemies? [945]

In 1989 decent Russians established an association officially called International Historical, Educational, Charitable and Human Rights Association "Memorial" which has dealt with historical research and dissemination of knowledge about the victims of Soviet repression, including the Stalinist period, as well as the protection of human rights in the countries of the former USSR . The organization was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2022 but a few months ago the Kremlin made it illegal.

They also did their best to discover the truth about Polish victims of the Soviet regime.

Today they have just reported that a monument to Polish and Lithuanian victims of Stalinist gulag system was destroyed in provincial Russia by Mongol barbarians.

wydarzenia.interia.pl/zagranica/news-memorial-alarmuje-w-rosji-zdewastowano-pomnik-ofiar-sowiecki,nId,6733516#parametr=polecamy

"I have just received information about the liquidation of the monument to Polish and Lithuanian exiles who died in the settlement of Galaszor in the north of the Perm Land. The demolition vehicles drove off-road, avoiding towns, so that the residents who take care of the cemetery would not raise the alarm," Kamieński reported, quoted by Memorial.

He added that the monument was erected in 2016 at the cemetery of the former settlement of Galaszor, which functioned in 1939-70.
Memorial, an organization banned by the Russian authorities, stated on its website that about 60 Lithuanian and Polish families from Lithuania were deported to Galaszor in 1945 and in the following years.

It looked like that:

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1090]

with which it doesn't trade

Falsity No 1.

doesn't receive investment from

Falsity No 2.

where 95% of the population could not find Poland on the map

Yes, but the same applies to Germany or France so this argument has a zero value.

Bobko, tell us: were they conscious lies or you are so tragically misinformed yourself????

A closest encounter of the third kind with a beautiful red deer

One deer is nothing special. But 100 or 200 or more red deer is unusual.

History / Can anyone from Poland tell me about Auschwitz and The Ghetto? [625]

I meant that mistakes in policies can lead to such tragedies like the war in Ukraine

Yes, but had Germans predicted it would end like that? No, they had been simply naive like kids but eventually were taught a lesson and put an end to their sancta naivety. . And that`s what counts! HA!

Great words but no deeds

No deeds? I thought Germans abundantly compensated Jews after WW2. So it wasn`t only words.
PS. In case you mean Nordstream again, please stop - it is a trivial issue on such a day.

History / Can anyone from Poland tell me about Auschwitz and The Ghetto? [625]

I don't know if it's such a "trivial" stuff...

Yes, it is, compared to Shoah. I will stick to my opinion. :):)

We should learn from history and not repeat the same mistakes...

Exactly but........ transporting gas through a pipe line like Nordstream will never be on a par with transporting people to gas chambers as during WW2. That is why I called the Nordstream issue trivial when compared to such a tragedy. That is why it doesn`t matter on such a day that Steinmeyer supported Nordstream. He came to Poland and apologised for German crimes. Again. That`s what counts.

When will Putin and other Russians apologise for their crimes in Ukraine???

After this rhetorical question, we have to agree that we like Mr President Steinmeyer despite all his controversies.

News / TVP producer fired for allowing rainbow flag on the air... [244]

Rightists are amassingly obsessed with rainbows. Whenever they notice one, they see red!

E.g, a few days ago a rightist spotted a rainbow at the meeting of a housing cooperative. He got furious as it was hanging on the wall next to the cross. He removed his stupid post after sb else explained the rainbow has been the symbol of cooperative societies for decades, practically a century now.

Amassing those rightists are!

The opposite of what I said then!

Of course not. Didn`t you say valued, priceless?? One can feel like that or others might think so about you. The core meaning is the same. :):)

ghosts

Rather demons, not ghosts. I got blinded by the Poltergeist expression.

Language / Game - guess Polish idioms/sayings in direct English translation [1756]

To talk about something irrelevant or trivial.
To be prepared to do anything for someone?
To have everything one wants, to feel happy and contented?
To pretend not to see something?

Yes, those guesses are correct.

To feel valued, priceless?

To be like gold requires a little different approach. It is not that you feel like gold, it is what people think of you. A boy like gold - he will be a perfect husband one day.

History / What should Russia and Poland do to become if not friends, then at least not enemies? [945]

For that to happen either Russia should lose this war and back off from Europe for good

For what exactly? Building the civilisation?? If so, backing off from Europe is a stupid move by Russia coz they need the West for funds and technology. Without Western money and know-how, Russians are like kids in the foggy forest. They are only able to produce weapons and nothing else. How about other things which are necessary to build a developed country? Currently they steal toilet seats, fridges and washing machines in Ukraine. How about producing them in Russia at last????

Poland should help Russia win in Ukraine

You certainly like provoking people. :):):) And then you cry they treat you like you know what. :):):)

History / Can anyone from Poland tell me about Auschwitz and The Ghetto? [625]

Today it is the first time in history when presidents of Poland, Germany and Israel celebrated the anniversary of the Ghetto Rising together.
The 80th anniversary.

President Duda gave an emotional speech, as always. After the monument part, they went to the synagogue to light the candles.

Males, stop talking about yourselves, this thread is about females.

Which areas of Poland have the most conservative young women?

I think Eastern Poland is the area you look for. Vast wheat fields host such conservative females by thousands. Ok, I exaggerate as usual. Hundreds.

News / Unfulfilled promises by PiS [559]

Does this mean the majority is blaming the minority ?

Exactly. PiS won the majority in 2015 and has been in power since then. However, they prefer to blame all their major bungles on others, mainly the opposition. In case of Ukrainian grain, they also blame the EU.

Cheeky bastards those rightists are. That is why I have always kept away from them - practically, all my life. I can be so fekking conservative in some matters.

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

School life always comes to still

Comes to a standstill, of course.

Coming back to my Ukrainian students. We often talk when I monitor the corridor during breaks. Of course in English coz I don`t know Ukrainian and my knowledge of Russian doesn`t allow for a free conversation.

What do they think of Polish school? I mean their opinions based on their views and earlier expectations on Poland as a European country, instead of simply comparing Polish and Ukrainian systems

They noticed the following pros:
- good, dedicated, helpful teachers.
- friendly atmosphere, no violence, very few cases of bullying etc.
- a lot of special days, celebrations, theatricals, traditions.
- Ukrainian students are allowed to use phones for translation while in class. Polish students mustn`t. :):)

Cons:
- crowded classes
- too many tests
- science subjects like biology, physics lectured mostly in theory, no experiments in chemistry class etc
- difficulty with analysing Polish literature, especially poetry, due to language inadequacy.
- Polish students are sometimes too reserved and shun a closer contact with Ukrainians.

History / What do Poles owe to Czechs? [89]

Back on topic edition 12.

We owe to Czech journalists a latest comparison of prices of groceries purchased in one of popular chain supermarkets. They visited Lidl markets in Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Germany and Austria.

Of course, Polish Lidl offered the lowest prices of all.

wydarzenia.interia.pl/kraj/news-czesi-zrobili-wielkie-porownanie-cen-u-sasiadow-zaskakujace-,nId,6699588

Czechs perfectly know about it and come in droves to do shopping in Poland. There is only one item which is cheaper in Czechia. Guess which one. Of course beer.

Czech journalists point out that only Poland has a zero VAT rate. They also note that even if our government did not decide to make this move, and the rate of 5 percent was introdiced, it would still be cheaper in Poland than in the Czech Republic, where the tax is the highest and amounts to as much as 15 percent.

Much smaller amounts than before but still.

Much smaller but still the highest amounts of all EU countries. That PiS is really amassing - they say one thing and do another. Liars who still sponsor Putin and his dirty war.

News / Unfulfilled promises by PiS [559]

PiS has no idea what to do with the Ukrainian grain NOW.

PiS was unable to keep an eye on Ukrainian grain that crossed the Polish border. Instead of going further, it began to hit the local market. The usual economic mechanisms worked here: since cheaper grain from Ukraine appeared in the country (because the rulers were unable to stop it), buyers rushed to purchase it. Thanks to this, they could, for example, produce cheaper animal feed and become more competitive. As a result, grain prices went down, and Polish agricultural producers were left with an alternative: sell grain twice as cheap as a year ago or let it rot in silos. You really don't need a Nobel Prize in economics to predict such a course of events. Anyway, in July 2022, the former Minister of Agriculture from PiS Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski warned: grain from Ukraine would destroy Polish agriculture.

When such warnings appeared a year ago,PiS argued that it was the work of Russian propaganda. Now that there was a serious problem, they put the blame on the European Union and demand that it react. The problem is that the EU Commissioner for Agriculture is Janusz Wojciechowski, who was appointed to Brussels by the PiS government of Mateusz Morawiecki.
