News / Raising Poland's legal drinking age to 21 [95]

Great idea. Way too many young alcoholics there (I witnessed it myself). I realize, my opinion won't be very popular on PF :-)

I agree with you. But that won't stop them from drinking at home, only at bars.

USA, Canada / Are there any Polish people in Florida? [311]

Lots of Polish people gather at the Pierogi Inn in Sarasota. There is a picnic there on Sunday. Chance to meet everybody.

Life / Child abuse in Poland [64]

Every parent is different. Some Polish parents raise their children very well, others don't.

Maybe to you they are but a parent can name their child whatever they want.

Genealogy / Polish looks? [1410]

So who am I supposed to believe?

Believe with your own eyes. Go to Chicago or New York and you will spot them right away: bald, wearing leather jackets, walking like they know everything, big foreheads, long noses and stupid expression on their faces. In Poland and you won't miss them.

LOL. that might be due to the fact that we find male ugliness quite sexy

Nothing sexy about an ugly person unless you are kopnięta or something.

Genealogy / Crest and the meaning of last name Sumski [33]

Could have been Szumski.
"Szum" has several meanings, it is a town in Poland, a river, it also means noise, sometimes unwanted noise, a hiss or hum.

Po polsku / W dupie - w Polsce lekarz zarabia mniej niz fryzjer? [32]

I heard that a beautician in Warsaw makes more than a doctor...(

A doctor is paid by the gov a flat rate and a doctor doesn't care about a patient. That's why there are so many wrong diagnosis in Poland, because the doctors simply don't care. They get paid the same rate no matter what they do.

Language / Spelling "aunt" in Polish [142]

Yes, it is but only in North America. The short term is definitely, 100% not of Polish (as in "of or from Poland") origin.

I never said I don't believe and I know there is no such word in Polish

Language / Spelling "aunt" in Polish [142]

I have never heard the word in Poland, nor did I come across it even once in the mountain of Polish literature I went through.

Ever heard of "Babusia"?
Busia is short form

Language / Spelling "aunt" in Polish [142]

I love how the Americans are so self-assured when they speculate on things they have not much clue about.

I love the way the Polish are so self-assured when they speculate on things they have no clue about.
Many Polish decendants say Busia in America. It is not a speculation. Their families came from Poland in the late 1800's. Not from Ukraine or other slavic country. Many came from the Kujawy area, their Polish has a different dialect, but it is Poland.

Life / Stubborn Polaks, anyone knows? [77]

I see it highly unpropriate that Poles and people od Polish descent use word "Pollack

We call ourselves yanks, gringos, americanos and do we really care? I think its the Polish people who think everybody is picking on them that have a problem with being call a Polak.

Tygrys you claim to be a Pole but you use the derogatory term "Polaks". How come?

Is Polka also derogatory? Everybody in Poland is a Polak, you have a problem with that?

USA, Canada / Poles and Americans, what do you think, are we friends or enemies? [187]

Poland bought F 16 ($6.5bilion just for the planes).Where is the the offset?

Poland got paid lots of money for this, Polish soldiers would do anything to leave Poland, nobody forced them. besides the US military does not represent the Americans. We don't support the war but are forced to pay for it with our tax money, we want our troops back but the military is another form of a system America has no say so, which some people think it's all Americans that want this. We Americans don't want this but have no choice

Poland allowed you to set up missile defence base (this s h i t is to defend US not Poland).

And that's the Polish side of the story. Didn't know America borders Poland and needs a defensive system way over the pond. When we denied the missile defense system, the Poles were all mad that "Americans not putting misile no more". Now you got it, and now they complain they did. You can never satisfy a Pole.

USA, Canada / Poles and Americans, what do you think, are we friends or enemies? [187]

But which country would I expect to be more loyal to the friendship? Poland.

Poland is only loyal when they get paid. They kiss up to America so they can come here illegally, don't obey our laws then complain they can't get a green card or a visa.

Language / Your perception of the Polish accent [145]

I agree. Some Russian words may be similair to Polish but that's it. The rest are totally different and it would be hard to understand each other.

Life / Help me find this Polish band and song.... [117]

W poniedziałek rano, kosił ojciec siano.
[...]
Sprzedał ojciec, sprzedał ja, sprzedaliśmy obydwa.

On Monday morning, my father cut the hay.
He cut, I cut, we both cut it.
And Tuesday morning, my dad dried the hay.
And Wednesday morning, he raked the hay.
And Thursday morning he stacked it in a pile.
And Friday morning he brought in the hay.
And Saturday morning he sold the hay.
