Language / What is your biggest problem with Polish language? [158]

English does have some genders (although it's almost gone). "Ship" is referred as 'she' for example.

And it's useful if you wish to classify and distinguish objects (real or not). Animacy/unanimacy serves similar role. Most indo-european languages does have genders.

Study / 90% of Poles have university degree? [57]

Papers from Polish unis are useful only as a toilet paper tbh. In the world of best ranked universities, Polish one are almost absent.
only because of dumbing down the courses Poland achieved such a high % of people with higher education (but nowhere as close to 90%)

UK, Ireland / Why are Polish people, especially women, so disrespectful toward the English? [437]

It's so because these scumbags moved to the UK to exploit it, not make the UK their new home. Get rid of them asap.

you do have, obviuously, have data that backs up your statement (I wont even bother to ask for tjuntkh's source), don't you? So far it's mostly the locally born Brits who exploit this country.

Off-Topic / The "Anglicization" of Europe [132]

Firstly, I think you meant prOscriptive,

I'm fairly confident I mean 'prescriptive'. Like in prescriptive vs descriptive grammar.

(..)in addition to the attraction of rock music, namely Elvis and the Beatles and the rest is history, no mystery!

There are more reason English has become de facto standard in international communities (especially the scientific one). While what you wrote is one of the reason for its popularity, it's not only because that.

(..)would you keep your passport in as orderly, clean and presentable condition as possible, or rather all dog-eared and dirty?

Language isn't a physical thing. Also, language evolves constantly. The day Brits (or Americans, but I somehow doubt they would try to do it) would create something similar to RJP would be a sad day for the English language.

Only you can answer that...yet somehow, I already know unfortunately what the answer will be.

I bet your ass you know it.

Off-Topic / The "Anglicization" of Europe [132]

I haven't read that much of prescriptivist manure in a long time.

Up to the Great War English played a smaller part in scientific literature than French or German. WW1, and than Ww2 has changed everything. Nowadays circa 95% of scientific materials are released in English. No other language have ever achieved such a penetration.

Life / How do Polish people treat their animals? [33]

@gumishu
Vistula and Noteć.
in the old times the (dead) newborn piglets were used as a bait

@Dougpol1
Anyone who holds a grudge for things like that for years (plus the planned revenge is far worse than the 'crime') is a psycho

Food / Polish Dinner for Boyfriend - what to cook? [34]

I'd give myself to a woman who would make me a kotlet schabowy (Viennese schnitzel) with baby patatoes and mizeria (cream infused sliced cucumber)!

to be honest I'd give myself even for a mcdonalds, but than again I'm quite cheap

News / Should Polonia and expat Poles lose voting rights in Polish elections? [74]

Personally if one doesn't live in the country one should have no vote. After all its not them who will pay the consequences.
its like choosing your neighbours living room color- you may see it once or twice ice per year (if at all), but they are the ones who have to live with it.

Language / Extremely Hard - Polish the hardest language to learn [226]

@bolek_tusk
Wow, Polish is hard (for a native English speaker) but it's still easier than Hungarian, Japanese or Chinese.

@OP
Polish, unlike the English, requires quite a good grasp of the grammar.

History / Let's talk about the POLISH ARMY [79]

what period are you looking at? some historical one or modern uniform? combat ("polowy") one or one for official thingies ("galowy" or "wyjściowy") like parades etc?

if it's the first one than they use just the standard, crappy uniform, they have all moved to uniform wz 2010

News / Why Poland has no problem with terrorism [64]

Lol are you talking about the one time where son e dude left a small bomb on a bus?

It was probably some punk that made a harmless works toilet cleaner bomb or something, which a bus driver casually threw out..

oh, right. i forgot about that.

By definition a terrorist attack has to have a terrorist attacking people

no, it doesn't.
and yeah, that was a terrorist attack (most likely; it could be someone- unrelated to the explosion- doing a prank). God thanks nobody got hurt (this time).

You're an idiot.

... so no reference, nor comment, to the (probably) only one (god thanks!) actual terrorist attack in Poland than? or it's boring, because nobody was killed and followers of "religion of peace" were not involved?

oh, nice.
Mod has not only deleted the copied material, but also link to the source- making the post pointless.

wiadomosci.bielsko.info/17414-terrorysci-wysadzili-blok-na-sarnim-stoku-tajemniczy-list-krazy-w-sieci-bielsko-biala

funny thing is to see people so bloody concerned about non-existing (in Poland) islamic terror yet saying nothing about the actual one.

Merged:

Terrorist attack in Poland (?) [mostly in Polish]

copy-paste.

Basically- unless it's a trolling from un-associate group- there was an explosion in unfinished building, and someone has sent mail to the papers etc with request of stopping building another buildings; not only that but about the removal of the currently built. So- eco-terrorists this time.

Life / How to vote in the Polish elections? [23]

I'm aware of that. It's 15 years, frankly speaking I think it should be less (probably 2-3 years, unless one serves in army abroad etc).

Life / How to vote in the Polish elections? [23]

People who do not (or are going to in a near future) live in a country should not be able to vote in elections.
It's like choosing your neighbour's living room colors- you are not gonna live there, only see them once in a while but they will see it every day.

In Poland, a decade or so ago there was a joke:

"Jaki jest szczyt chamstwa?
- Zaglosowac na PiS i wyemigrować"

I hope I do not need to translate it

USA, Canada / Would a Polish woman marry to get into the USA? [41]

May you explain better? Why is USA similar to UK/France, and why Poland is not? What is the essential difference?

one can easily find a better social security in those two countries (when compared to the US). that and person is less likely to be shot at by someone.

sure- if you are filthy rich US is probably a better place for you, but most people aren't.

USA, Canada / Would a Polish woman marry to get into the USA? [41]

unless the guy is very rich, there would be a little reason to move to the US from Poland to there- after all there is no reason to go to the USA when one can go to France or the UK.
