Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

I didn't see many fat people on the streets and none obese like in UK or USA

It's nothing like the US, but some kids are overweight.

The shopping centre is in Lodz. Wikipedia has all the details.

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

That is why people are more mobile in Poland and are slim and fit not like in UK or USA: drive to big supermarket - fill car with lots crisps, coca-cola, ready meals, veg or meat in plastic, clinical wraps ...drive home, switch on tv , sit on the sofa and eat,eat,eat....

Not quite true, is it ?

The largest shopping centre in Europe is in Poland.

There are large shopping centres in most other big towns and cities.

Poland's youth are getting bigger and fatter.

It's published in the UK.

Genealogy / Last Name: DOWGIALLO from Poland [44]

but could it be that Dowgiallo is a Jewish name, or might there be a Jewish branch of the Dowgiallo family?

It seems that (some) Jewish people had this name or a variation of it... is the best answer I can give you.
This is the reason I asked for a Christian/first name.

The Ship's Manifest sometimes shows next of kin. This might have the original spelling of the name. Remember, the ship's manifest was written at port of departure and may be slightly different to arrival records. It all depends on the language spoken by those filling in the documents and the language spoken by the person giving the information.

If the name has been changed it is easy to assume that it happened at Ellis Island. But this is not always the case.

The Social Security Death Index might show his place of birth. (you don't have to pay for this info)

Naturalization Records can show quite a bit of information.

If G-Grandfather served in the US military at any time you may find that these records show something.

Genealogy / Last Name: DOWGIALLO from Poland [44]

Last Name: DOWGIALLO

JewishGen has:

Dovgiallo... in Suwalki. Suwalki has been in both Poland and Lithuania.

For info on this read about 'the Pale'

Dovgyallo... Vilnius. There are a few families with this spelling.

It would help, if you gave us some first names. Can you supply your Great-Grandfather's first name ?

Anyone who claims roots to a 13th century surname is talking rubbish. Most ordinary people didn't have a surname until the 16th century. This is mentioned on the website link I provided earlier.

Have you checked Ship's Records for the arrival of your G-Grandfather. The ships manifest will show his original place of residence ?

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

She also doesn't like giving tips to restaurant staff and taxi drivers!

Restaurant and bar staff expect a tip, but only because they've been to the UK or some such place and done the same job there. (possibly)

Taxi drivers don't expect a tip. I'm not about to start a fashion, so I only tip sometimes.

polishroots.org has a page on Polish surnames. It is by William (Fred) Hoffman who seems to be an authority on the subject.

But where to insert the swear-word?

You already know the answer to this. K**** is the first word in the sentence and every second word thereafter.

USA, Canada / Now American men want to marry Polish women for polish papers. [38]

after five years there he would be able to get Polish citizenship.

After five years, he may qualify and may be accepted. It is not a foregone conclusion.

Owning and running a business might help, but I don't really know.

There is nothing at all listed for this family at : family search. Apart from twelve names in the USA (none match)

Law / Import a car from US to Poland [23]

There is a fairy tale going around that "a lot" of polish people are buying cars here and ship them to Poland

There was a report on the BBC, a week or two ago, about Americans selling their cars because of the rise in fuel prices. The report focused on SUVs

Anyone selling an SUV at a significant loss would possibly make it the Polish guy's gain.
From what was suggested on the news, there might be some truth in the story, and profit, for the enterprising Pole.
There are people who imported cars from Germany. Maybe they have seen an opening in the states.

And, what are the most popular websites for buying/selling cars

The most popular paper would be Auto Giełda. So you could try their website.

buddhagirl

There are 85 women with the name Joanna S........

There are no men with this surname and called Andrezj

None of the women come from Lipiany

I can't check by age in the search, I have to check each profile individually and I'm afraid that I don't have time to do it today.

It would be much easier if you joined the site and looked for yourself.

And after all that she still might not be there.

It would be better if you contacted me by PM.

I need name, age, town. There are lots of possible results.

Or. when you get home make up a name, join a school list... and then search.
When you enter the name you are looking for... press search... and then some pictures will come up... click on the name under the picture for the persons profile.

Don't tell anyone I told you this.

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

All of the women in the photo could quite easily be a cross section of the the young women I see every day. Like any city, some are prettier than others.

Young woman on left + scarf, young woman in middle + scarf, sleeveless woman... all look like women I know. Polish women that is.

Pretty girls/women stand out. It doesn't mean that all girls/women share their looks.

Also, you will find that some Polish women have Ukranian blood. Which means... well you get it.
