Travel / Tourism in Poland [41]

Catholics

There are many Christians of that denomination and others there, as well as of other religions.

Not many are taking holidays abroad right now, given the crisis, however we can certainly expect more people from the Middle East in Poland for tourism, study and to live.

Life / Polish (in comparison to English and Indian) have amazing culture [71]

but one professor told me that he felt like he received a letter from 19th century. :)

Official notifications in the U.K. have to be in what's called Plain English, using the most straightforward vocabulary and grammar. It wouldn't be a bad thing for organisations in Poland to develop Plain Polish. That would certainly be more accessible, especially to the roughly 50% of the population who have below average intelligence.

If you really want to annoy

I remember a notice outside some flats I used to live in a few years ago.

It went (in Polish of course).

Respected Residents
According to decree number xxxxxxxxxx and under the legal provision yyyyyyyyyy according to the statute dated a/bb/19cc. It is anticipated that there will be a break in the distribution of electrical energy today commencing at 2pm until further notice.

In the U.K. it would just say:

The electricity will be off for a few minutes. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please phone 123456 for further info.

unmanned

That's my feeling too.

We've had 'unmanned flights' since the first model aircraft decades ago, and now, even chimpanzees like us have AI. If we can do that now, someone/something way ahead of us certainly can do even more. There's just no reason to send little green men, and certainly no reason to send them to America. If they look for the most human development, it's the 'European Crescent', from more or less Manchester via the Ruhr and down as far as Milan, and if it's the fastest development, that's China. Definitely not farmers in Iowa.

And if there is anything going on, there's no way some booby from Konfa would know a thing about it.

Reading that list, they just look a bunch of nutters. One reason the U.K. stopped hereditary peers sitting in the upper house was because from time to time there'd be crazies with opinions like that. Here they're on an electoral list. At least it'll give europes journalists something to laugh at if they get in.

An interesting list of some of the wackier ideas of Konfa 'politicians'.

Including UFOs, 'cures' for autism, dog eating and abolishing speed limits.

News / Future of Polish-Ukrainian relations [669]

this fishy idea of Polish-Ukrainian union

It's a bizarre idea and smacks of ethnic irredentism.

The Lemko and Boyko people were moved out by force during Akcja Wisła. That was wrong, however it's now 80 years ago and the damage is already done.

It's as daft as saying that Poland has a claim on Lviv because ethnic Poles were once the majority there or that Germany has a claim on Wrocław because it was once theirs.

Well, the Ukrainian offensive has been rather moderately successful so far

Over the past few days, they've done rather well, and of course the orcs are depleted now to an unsustainable level.

will just give those lands back?

Will r*SSia have any choice?

If you are not sure if the person in front of you is a world-class moron

Just read their hate posts. It's quite simple.

Off-Topic / Let's talk about shoes [334]

Me too. I generally send things to charity shops.

Good shoes though, last for ages if you look after them.

PiS wouldn't be able to come up with anything crazier

Indeed. They trawled the depths when they were attacking teletubbies.

and they have taken first tentative steps to legitimizing the use of deep fakes in Polish politics!

I doubt PiS would hold back either, not least because of their relentless pushing of fake news on public TV.

Darling, not deep fake but artificial intelligence produced this voice to read Morawiecki mails which hugely discredit him as a liar

Political parties have been using black PR since before the term was invented. Including often enough in Poland.

The current ruling party should not throw stones (like the 'news' programming on TVPiS, presenting their point of view as 'news' on a TV station owned by everyone) while they live in a glass house.

This is a non-story, though out of an abundance of caution, perhaps they should hire a very skilled actor or actress to read them out in a particularly menacing tone.

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

If they issue a dozen or two of such passports

A problem is the potentially awful reasons those couple of dozen might be issued passports.

And the Bel-Rus regime can kiss goodbye to the new Chinese Silk Route

Hopefully!

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

If that's true it would probably be better if EU countries closed the border with Belarus already

It would cause problems however that might be the way to go.

They could do it proactively now or reactively after a tragedy.

I'd go for sooner rather than later.

USA, Canada / Using maiden name as middle name [21]

They can, providing people don't use punctuation marks, attempt to claim titles or ecclesiastical ranks.

And of course those rules only refer to making a deed poll. You can use pretty well any name you like in day to day life, employment, politics etc.

choose Pink Kettle for his or her new name

Why not? Some names are funny and some people like having them.

I changed my own to a more boring one, however of someone wants to be called an exotic name, why not?

But still Britain isn`t so much better than Poland

For changing names it certainly is.

if you can`t be Prince Charles

You'd need an ear transplant for that, and a life of service.

I mentioned the court and you do too

Except of course people don't need to use one in the U.K. or even send documents to one. Most people who change their name don't involve a court.

But in Britain you can`t change your name to Prince

Titles are regulated by law, so no, Nor can you use punctuation marks.

Ha

Ha indeed, since I doubt a Polish court would let you change your name to Papież Jan Pawel Drugi.
