Several PiS policies have been highly inflationary

Between 2002 and 2021 inflation was within a manageable 0-5% yearly. The situation changed only during the final months of 2021, 2 years into covid epidemic. Central Bank responded by rapidly increasing interest rates:

graph

The effectiveness of this instrument proved to be limited though because the government didn't play ball and kept on spending.

However if government would cut spending at the time central bank increased interest rates, we'd have 'cooling of the economy' below zero. Our growth would die and unemployment would skyrocket.

So now we have high inflation (but not the highest in the EU - the 'prize' goes to Hungary) but also the lowest unemployment in the EU.

high inflation resulting from benefits.

Inflation in Poland is a result of numerous different factors:
- global post-Covid measures - printing lots of money finally caught up with us,
- result of the war (increase of food & oil prices) and the wave of refugees (increase in rent&housing prices).

Between 2002 and 2021 inflation was within a manageable 0-5% yearly. We even had deflation for a short period of 2015, so increasing public spending then was actually required. PiS expanding public spending caused inflation similar, even lower that during Civic Platform's miserly governments.

News / Future of Polish-Ukrainian relations [669]

A lot more russians think that an independent Poland is a mortal threat and they should nuke Warsaw....

And people outside of Warsaw go:

warshaw

They do think we value Warsaw, which is typical since Uncle Stalin gave us the cancer building and they still have the mentality that we care about it or appreciate it.

News / Russian agents plan sabotage acts in Poland??? [74]

It looks like the r*SSians have hacked into PKP systems around Szczecin, playing their horrid Stalin-era national anthem over PKP radio frequencies and allegedly stopping trains.

Hm but why don't Poles like Russia, I can't quite figure it out...

Do you support raising the retirement age, including bringing back the retirement age of 67 for men and women?".

If PO did referendums, instead of forcing changes, maybe your idols would not lost the power.

Life / Polish fences - complete anthology [74]

PS. Riddle - why do Poles love fences.?

I have been watching my neighbor's house across the street without a fence around. If it is not fenced, it means no one's property. Everyone who walks their dogs lets them defecate on such a the neighbor's lawn. Trees and bushes constantly watered by dogs look terrible. What to do with children throwing garbage while walking along the road, and not children only?

History / This anti-Ukrainian propaganda for no valid reasons must stop [70]

In 1920 we were allied to the Ukrainians.
Post-1918 Eastern Europe was battle royale in which literally dozens of factions fought out their competing claims over the same territories, which were ethnically mixed. Lands fought over between Poland and Ukraine were as much claimed by Ukraine as by Poland. They became ethnically homogeneous only after post-WW2 cleansings. Only then they finally became Ukrainian or Polish.

We battled until we established borders.

Poles battled Ukrainians in 1918/9, established borders, and allied against Bolsheviks for the 1920 campaign.
The alliance collapsed because of Kyiv fiasco in late spring 1920, after Petlura failed to form any workable government or even rally enough support to make it worthwhile to prop him up.

History / What should Russia and Poland do to become if not friends, then at least not enemies? [945]

the Warsaw Pact

In the 80s Soviets ordered our communist government to 'deal' with opposition by introducing martial law. And also suggesting that if our communists won't solve the matter with proper deciseveness, Soviets might 'aid' them in this.

For 40 years we Poles were harboring hostility towards our imperialist Soviet oppressors. Finally in 1989 the shift in global political situation allowed us to throw off the shackles, humoristically called the Warsaw Pact.

I don't think you know how NATO works (but you know sh*it about everything you write about, so it's nothing new).

As a general rule, NATO does not 'attack' its members. That was the Warsaw Pact's speciality.

When a member of NATO is attacked, article 5 of the Treaty kicks in, and members in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

There is no veto power here. Each country reacts to the degree it feels necessary to secure the alliance.

The only veto power in NATO is when a new country wishes to join. And you can bet that if Russia would like to join to become a Trojan horse inside NATO, Poland would happily veto the sh*it out of them.

US-Russia friendship would make Poland-Russia friendship a reality in less than 24 hours.

Lets suppose that a Russia puppet gets elected in USA and agrees to disband NATO. Do you think that Poland, Baltic and so on would't try to get nukes and fu*ck NPT? We would't be re occupied by "srussia" any time soon.

The EU requires the Polish gov to choose judges legally, according to democratic rule of law

Fun fact: The presiding judge of the German constitutional court was the vice president of the ruling party's faction in parliament (and a personal friend of Angela Merkel) right up until the day he was "elected" to the constitutional court by that same parliament. In order to be eligible he had to be a professor of constitutional law, which he magically became a few months earlier despite having a full time job as an MP. All the documents involved in him becoming a professor are kept secret to this day.

When the government's corona mandates landed in the constitutional court, the justices had dinner with Merkel and the rest of the government right before they unsurprisingly decided that everything the government did was absolutely A-OK.

German media assured everyone that all of this is perfectly fine and healthy. While at the same time running countless of segments of how the evil Polish conservatives are undermining Poland's independent judiciary, for which it should justly be punished by the EU.

News / What should Poland do with the problem of Belarus? [1800]

8s it a follow up from the original Achaja trilogy? Is it any good? Especially compared to the original books?

I think it is better. Language is not so colorful, and while I don't mind swearing, I think it is a good thing Ziemański toned it down a bit in a sequel.

It happens one thousand years after the original trilogy, and... not to put too much spoilers, I just say that there are Poles who come to the Achaiaworld.

Poles from about 1930s, from some alternative Earth, where Partitions have never happened. If you have read Ziemniański's Bomba Heisenberga shorts story, you'll know what kind of Poland it is. It is hilarious.

After 5 books of Pomnik.... series Ziemiański started prequel series called "Virion", taking place before Achaia was born. About the youth of legendary swordsman Virion, once met by Achaia.

the conduct of our border guards is simply illegal in many respects

When people from Africa and Middle East were trying to reach Poland through Belarus they were simply illegal immigrants, allowing themselves to be used in Lukashenko's vile plan for a prospect of better life in the West. They were not threatened by war in Belarus, it was basically a safe harbor for them. By stopping them we were defending European borders and gaining actual (yet silent) gratitude from the EU.

Should we let Africans and Arabs in and allow them to travel to Germany, Belgium or France? It's not like they intended to stay in Poland anyway. PiS literally refused to take in 10k refugees from Syria that PO promised to take in and EU could grumble at most. Its way less powerful than you may think.

When the Ukrainian people were trying to reach Poland after February 24, they were fleeing actual warzone, which made them real refugees.

Perhaps you forget that freedom of religious belief and practice has long been a deeply held value in Poland

I am no walking into theirs countries to force my beliefs on them. Then again, I am not obliged to take care for every cultist who happens to show up on the border of Poland.

And they aren't 'pagan' either.

They are not Christians. It means pagan in my book.

Don't blame

Neither I blame them, nor I have any obligation to them.

If JPII was alive

They are not Christian. And unwilling to convert to the true faith.
Poland have no obligations to a bunch of dirty pagans.

refugees on the Belarussian border

Belarus literally and objectively, as a matter of state policy, in an official capacity, offered free flights to third worlders on their government owned airline, in order to then push them past the border into Poland.

If this was done in a Tom Clancy novel, I'd say its unrealistic, but Lukashanka just does it in real life.

they try to remove independent judges

The level of doublethink and blatant lying by redefinition on the part of EU/"liberals". When a government elected by the people directly is in charge of the judiciary it's corruption and they say it's not an independent judiciary, but when a judiciary imposed by outside countries at pain of not receiving massive billions of dollars in funding is in place, that's "an independent judiciary". It's like every word is the opposite of it's real meaning.

Even if I agreed with the EU I'd have to side with the government in terms of it simply being untenable to let the EU put its foot on your neck to this degree. Either you have a country or you don't. I suppose EU countries are used to being completely supine in this way though, if you look at the things that have happened to Greece and Italy, it's just how things are there.

Language / When do I use certain characters? [33]

When last in Greenpoint, the storekeeper asked me
"Czy potrzebuje pan torebke?"

Well, if it would be very, very small shopping bag, I guess one could call it torebka.

Language / When do I use certain characters? [33]

Not to nitpick, but "bag" in the sense of a "shopping bag", is actually "torebka".

Nah, "shopping bag" would be "torba". "Torebka" is used by woman exclusively, it is "handbag" or "purse ".

News / Polish Parliamentary Elections 2023 [933]

You have a country, it is called Poland (or whatever the fu*ck you call it in your lingo). This is where Polish people live, and have lived, for a very long time. You have your language, culture, history and all that it entails. Polish people, born, lived and died, for many generations. They have fought many wars, for Polish people. They have suffered, they have risen up. They have fallen down. But through all that time, there they were, Polish people. Your ancestors.

But if you replace those Polish people, then you don't have Poland anymore. It will be something else. If you allow mass immigration, for any reason, this is what will happen. Poland isn't the land, it is the people there, that know their language, culture, traditions and so on. The land is merely the place the Polish people occupy and know as their home.

I claim it is a lie

townhall.com/columnists/michaelbrown/2012/06/01/another_outrage_in_california-n1199978

It is obvious you don't see progress in the same way that I do. IE - regular people having a better life.

For you, progress is bizarre social engineering projects to move the history "forward", you also see history as a endless class, gender, race, sexual orientation struggle that someday will end once humankind by some magical mutation develops hive mind and reach "the end of history". That is how leftist sees "progress"
