Life / Books, shows and movies set in Poland [16]

It's rubbish

You are entitled to your opinion, but I enjoyed it.It is fantasy, you need to open your mind to alternative realities.

why is everything so futuristic and modern?

Despite the title of the show, it is based in 2003.Maybe you missed something.
Hey, why all the negative stuff?
This was the first Polish TV show to go global.
Isn't that at the very least praiseworthy?

I would love to know what you think of the series called 1983

It is very dark but I enjoyed it.

Robert Wieckiewicz, who plays the lead role is a fine actor.

News / Should Poland leave the EU institution? [147]

they only wanted in as they have seen how successful the EU had become..

No.They only wanted in at a time.when The UK economy was.failing.

I would rather bet you that we see Scotland and maybe Wales asking for membership

Good luck with that.Neither of those countries would meet EU membership requirements. In fact, without English support they.will cease.to.exist.

...and nobody likes the UK that much! ;

That is true and that will prove.to be.the undoing of The EU.
Trust me.It is on it's death ride.....

So I guess you will wait and hope in vain.

I don't think so.
The UK's success out of the EU will motivate the more powerful countries like Germany, France and NL to think more about leaving.
And The EU clearly does not work for Italy, which may be the next to leave.
The EU cannot survive if more of the larger contributing nations that support the poorer ones leave.
And if the poorer ones no longer see a benefit of being part of the union, they will leave too.
Nah, The EU is a dead concept... it is just a question of time before it dies an inglorious death.
An outdated concept borne out of WW2 that is well past it's sell by date and now stinks.

The EU is to big to fail

Hey BB, I am sure you are familiar with the old saying "The bigger they are, the harder they fall".

I cannot wait for the day that I am vindicated and The EU is abolished.
Because at that point, European countries will get together to form a free trade zone.... they could call it "The Common Market".
But this time round they will understand that trying to force this free trading zone into some sort of singular federal state, would be a mistake.

No it does not, but it is already having an impact and you need to read the mood in Germany and to a degree in France too.

If either of those pulled out The EU would be gone.

Today. What about tomorrow?

LOL!?
Of course not, but The EU is so sick that I think that I have a very good chance of seeing it die before I do :-)

Life / Cost of burials in Poland [17]

That`s capitalism

Agreed.
But we have not yet found a system, that for all it's faults, works better.

News / Parliament in Poland clears way for nuclear plant [78]

Yes, but you know how conservative and stubborn Poles can be.:)

I do indeed..... so that will require some kind of re education programme.Which will probably take some time......

most Poles are suspicious about such plans - they still remember the accident in Czernobyl

That was a long time ago and using old Soviet technology.
Nuclear has moved on since then.
This is one of those very rare occasions when I agree with Jim :-)

News / Should Poland leave the EU institution? [147]

I hate The EU.It should have remained as a trading confederation. The moment it started to become an integrated state, alarm bells should have been ringing. The UK did the right thing and got out before the ship sank. The UK can do this because it has a very powerful economy.

Poland does not and cannot leave The EU right now.
Poland needs to bleed The EU dry until it starts to crack, which it will, and then get out fast.
The EU will die before I do.

History / Cursed soldiers controvercy - not all Poles respect them [320]

This is an interesting subject that has been "bastardized".
My opinion, for what it is worth, is that most of these guys had their hearts in the right place.
Maybe not their brains...... some were criminals or racsts, but not most of them.
Most of them were patriotic Poles.

History / Why Was D-Day So Significant for Poland ? [266]

I think you are all forgetting the third front, via Italy, in which many Polish troops were involved. How significant was that?

Work / What Jobs are there in Poland for an Englishman besides teaching english? [70]

If I met and got to know a maniacal rightist or sick fascist

Sadly for you, most Poles I know in The UK are pretty Right Wing.
I have met a few lefty Poles but they didn't last long here and soon ran back to Poland.
The Right Wingers have a work ethic and want to achieve something with their lives.
The Left Wingers are lazy dossers.

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

My point exactly. These people are not at fault, they are just not experienced.
When they come to The UK it is a massive culture shock.
But, to their credit, most Poles accept and even embrace it.

Love / English Men vs Polish Men [207]

That`s disgusting to call another person małpa

I am surprised that you are surprised by your fellow Poles.
I will say it again, when many Poles come to The UK they have very racist attitudes.
It is not surprising because in Poland they are not used to a multicultural enviroment.
But they soon adjust to the realities of modern life.
I just hope that they take that back to Poland one day.
