Work / Any professional intensive polish language course in Krakow? [10]

Tsja, what do you expect? Such intensive sources are expensive because you have a lot of lessons.

In my opinion the best and the cheapest way is just to learn Polish by self-study (look for Basic Polish from Bielec) and then go to Poland to learn an excellent pronunciation.

USA, Canada / Polish stuff vs. American stuff [107]

The part about Poles having yellow teeth because of drinking tea? Disagree, I'm afraid. It's more or less a genetic thing. I brush my teeth like crazy but they're never gonna be snow-white.

Dentists advice not to brush too heavily. Else you could damage the tooth enamel.
Maybe you were just joking thought? :P

Love / Please I need advice. Are Polish Girls and Poland Westernizing for the worse? [16]

@TS:
I'm not that into Christian religion, but as far as know about JC, he teached about loving/caring for people for what there are. Not only caring for them them because they fit your demands.

Maybe you would first try to understand and accept people, before judging them. - That would be really 'Christian'.

Love / Polish girls' obsession with marriage [124]

Ach those girls you have everywhere. I read an article in which they advised lower-class girls to choose a boyfriend who cared for them instead of a rich one who just threat them like a sex-doll. :P

By the way, I'm living in The Netherlands.

Love / Whose Life is it? Polish girlfriend under family "house arrest" [224]

Pffff savages. I would say: just fuck them & move on with your life. Do you want a girlfriend acting like a 8 years old?

I think there will be plenty of Polish girls who are emancipated and responsible. With a normal family as well.

Work / Soldier in need of advice about using Polish in a new career path. [11]

I think the idea is good. But first, think of what you would do with a Polish major. Look what career opportunities you will have and in what business you would work in.

I would advise you to do some self study in Polish first. And then make a long trip to Poland to find out whether Polish is something you would like to do for a living, or if it's more a hobby.

I don't want to discourage you, but it would be a pity if you spend a lot of time and dough, finding out that Polish is not really something you would like to do for a living.

A good self study is Basic Polish. Although it contains some errors (see my previous posts on this forum).

Love / Ask for permission before marriage (I'm from England, she's from Poland) [25]

I'm against!
If you marry a women, you should be prepared to marry her no matter what. That shows responsibility.
To ask her dad first, is maybe nice for him, but to your love you say (implicit): I want to marry you honey, but only if somebody else (daddy) agrees with it.

If a child becomes a grown up, it should not be held under permission of his/her parents (unless its mental-challenged he he :P)!

Love / what does it mean when a polish boy calls me 'girl'? [38]

what does it mean when a polish boy calls me 'girl'?

In my native language (Dutch) I would use "(little) girl" to show affection. I think in English it would translate to "darling" e.g.

Love / polish boyfriend has wrecked my english [48]

There was a thread about guys like the girls to sound a bit infantile and not well speaking, because it made them sound cute and a bit harmless. ;)

Love / Polish Girlfriend gone missing [154]

Sorry for not reading all the answers. But I guess the girl/woman is a grown-up at least? If so, she should stand up for herself and doesn't let her parents arrange her life.

Since it seems she is not able to do that, I advise you to quit and let her stew in her own juice.
You did your best and more than that.
If people cannot take their own responsibility then they would be totally not suitable to have a relationship or a family with.

Life / Japanese bands that are popular in Poland. [26]

I found Avalon a bit boring as well. Although I'd like the atmosphere, the colours, loneliness, Ash' glasses, the cooking scene (I used that one to improve my "cutting skills" :P) and the final with the opera.

I never was quite into mangas/anime, but a while ago I discovered Ghibli and it really caught me. Never thought I would still like anime series at my age. ;)

My favourites: Spirited Away, Tonari no Totoro and Howls Castle. I could recommend those!

Some more offtopic, but still interesting parts of Japanese culture. :D

Life / Japanese bands that are popular in Poland. [26]

Dunno if they are (/where) popular in PL, but they do rock! =)

(At the moment Puppypet doesn't exist anymore.)

Offtopic: maybe you find it interesting, there is a film called "Avalon". It's some sort of "real-life anime" and the protagonist Ash is based on the girl from Ghost in the Shell.

Life / muslim community in poland [430]

A while ago I saw the film Persepolis. This film is about a girl growing up in Iran. I found it interesting to see how the film tackles some prejudices about people living in a Muslim country; e.g. that also a lot of people doesn't agree with the Islamic law.

Love / Moved to Poland to my younger boyfriend, now got sick; he's got a new one [194]

Seriously, what do you expect: older English Wife vs Young Polish Cuties..
Love makes blind, but you are old enough to realize it is not going to work out. Twelve years does not have to be a problem when both are older like: 28 and 40. But I think the guy is a bit younger then 28?

At young ages life experience could cause a disbalance in the relationship. - Probably you have done and seen a lot already in life, and the boy still have to explore much before getting a the same level.

So I advise you to kiss your boy goodbye and focus on a new life. If you like Poland and Polish men, you could stay there, but watch out not to have feelings for your ex anymore.

Only a more experienced person who really fits in with you, could make a happy relationship.
And after all, cherish the nice moments you had with your ex. All nice moments got thrown in with the bargain in your life!

News / Writing Polish letters on Gadu Gadu please help! [16]

I think that you have to change the default language for files. Could you make a text file, type Polish letters in it and finally safe it? Then open it and look if the letters aren't "strange looking". If the letters are looking strange, then you should change the default file language. However I don't know how exactly to do that since I don't have Win Vista.

Nevertheless I think people will understand you if you lack the special letters. Although I understand that for the learning process it is handy to type them. :)

PS What does "Gadu Gadu" means? Gtranslate gives "Year Year". But I don't know how that make sense for a chat client? =)

Life / POLISH MALES FAVOR FAMILIES, FATHERHOOD [8]

and bottow-dwelling Holland (29%).

First I was looking for a Polish wife, but now I read this, I guess I'd better look for a family-caring Polish bloke. - Just to compensate my Dutch lack of fatherhood.. :P

Is it easy to adopt children in Poland as homo-couple?? He he. :D

Life / Talk-sex in Poland...are Poles really prude? [44]

According to my experience it depends. Some are, some aren't. But I think that the Catholic people in Poland are more strict then Catholics in other countries like England for example. - And they thus have a bit of a taboo against talking about sex.

However I have the idea that especially Polish intellectuals are as liberal as in other countries.

As well I noticed that most writers and film makers are quite open about sex and nudity. Kosiński described some quite graphical sex scenes in his "Painted Bird" and Masłowska goes even further with her dark, and sometimes quite funny novel: "Wojna polsko-ruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną".

Looking at films I name an "Angelus", a "Jestem" and even "Dekalog 6" is quite open about things like adultery, masturbation and sex in general.

In general I think Poles aren't more prude then Germans or French, but I think they tend to see sex more in a spiritual way.

Love / Ok GUYS....THIS is what women want...stop acting lame [238]

Well in my opinion women like someone who loves them and care for them. Not some ego tripping flashy black guy who's up to impregnate as much women as possible......

If you look at black communities you see so much single women with kids and men just ******* around like horny dawgs.

Love / Married a Polish guy. Now what? [40]

1. I think you'd better split up. You gave him some chances and still he is acting unreasonable. Even it looks like he doesn't like to live in the US.

2. Next time wait some time before you marry. Personally I think 4 years is the least you should wait. Because getting to know if things will work out takes some time.

3. Success!
