This has probably been said a thousand times on here but i am having trouble seeing Polish letters on Gadu Gadu. I have managed to change my keyboard so i can type the letters ń ś ć ą ę etc etc but when i try to type them on Gadu Gadu they look really strange.

I have Windows Vista and instructions people have given previously on this forum have been for XP.

Any ideas would be much appreciated , dziekuje bardzo :)

I think that you have to change the default language for files. Could you make a text file, type Polish letters in it and finally safe it? Then open it and look if the letters aren't "strange looking". If the letters are looking strange, then you should change the default file language. However I don't know how exactly to do that since I don't have Win Vista.

Nevertheless I think people will understand you if you lack the special letters. Although I understand that for the learning process it is handy to type them. :)

PS What does "Gadu Gadu" means? Gtranslate gives "Year Year". But I don't know how that make sense for a chat client? =)

What does "Gadu Gadu" means

It is like 'chit chat'. It comes from the verb gawędzić= to chat

When you were quoting tomekcatkins you hit the quote button above in ukpolska's box rather than the one below tomekcatkins message in his own box so it appeared like you were quoting ukpolska.

Why bother writing Polish letters. Polish native speakers dont do it, they dont pronounce them half the time.

That's very true. They actually laugh at some of the pron. Like dziekuję. It sounds ridiculous when u stress the ę too much. I was at a meeting today and they were joking about it.

The thing is, when u start using/to use the marks, and u miss a few, u r picked up on it. Either use them all out or not at all seems to be a sensible approach.

I say use them and learn how to use them correctly, because a language must be protected and not bastardised into some suitable form just because people are lazy.

Like we have done to english you mean? If you want to speak a language like a native then you must sound natural, and naturally poles do not use these marks on their letters. Look at the way english is abused by its own ppl.

Two wrongs make a right, seems like lemming mentality to me. !!!

To be honest, if you pronounce these Polish letters here, in some cases ull sound like a twat. Noone pronounces the ę on the final e of dziękuję, it just doesnt sond natural
