Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish

Ah, so the "Big Five" don't? That's a big surprise for me!

UK, Italy, Germany, France and Spain have automatic byes into the final as does the country that won the previous year....

That needs to be done away with. This year Germany, Spain, UK and Netherlands wouldn't have made it into the final (most likely) and Denmark and Croatia probably would...

24 is more than enough songs.....26 is a couple too many...

Agreed! Only the last years winner, who also wins the right to arrange the next years party, should still get a free ticket....but nobdody else!

should still get a free ticket.

But most of the time the hosts seem to go out of their way to.... lose (not to put too fine a point on it). Let them bow out gracefully in the semis rather than the open humiliation of crap scores in the final....

Nah....it's a prestigous price...for the country....people cry and hug each other over it! Especially for countries who usually don't ever win anything...

Let them have it :)

people cry and hug each other over it!

Like when Berlusconi or another Macron wins the elections. Later they throw Molotov cocktails. :)

With all the serious stuff going on..... did anyone watch Eurovision last night? Not the greatest semi-final but okay.

Hyped Latvia didn't make it through (didn't like it).

I liked Lithuania, Netherlands and Iceland (all singing in their own language rather than euro-crap English).

Favorites Ukraine were.... okay. I liked last year's entry better but they put on a show.

Surprise standout was.... Moldova! The audience went crazy for this whacky folk tune with accordions!

When Ukraine wins they can arrange the next Eurovision....I wonder which city they will chose and if everything is over next year by this time already....I hope so....

Germany will again land far behind, they already made a test survey....I dunno why we send such crap every year....something is rotten here!

I dunno why we send such crap every year....

It's an expensive show to put on... Germany doesn't want to waste more money (how much did the last German hosted one cost?)

.I dunno why we send such crap every year....something is rotten here!

I say the same about ours. The world listens to our music and certainly buys plenty of it. Yet it beats me why we send such **** to Eurovision.

Perhaps because we don't take it seriously and always do funny commentaries that offend the more po faced nations due to making fun of them.

It's an expensive show to put on

I think it's mostly paid for by Britain, France and Germany. It does cost money to put on though and poor Ireland with its 4 milion population were praying a few years ago that they didn't win a third time.

why we send such **** to Eurovision.

This year's UK entry is the best in many, many years... far better than the last UK entry to win (in the 1990s?)

On the other hand I liked the otherwise universally reviled airline number (as a novelty fun thing not a song) so maybe my taste isn't a great reference but the UK is in the top 5 in the betting pools....

universally reviled airline number

I gave up after watching that. It sapped my will to live even more than the Norwegians in the bear costumes or whatever they were that won one year. I think the U.K. wanted to channel 70s camp but not full on drag acts like Israel, Ukraine, Austria had won with before.

I've deliberately avoided listening to any of this years (I'll hear them all in Warsaw gay bars for the next decade anyway) but now you've mentioned it I'll take a look. Is it tonight?

Englebert Humperdinck was a low point too. It didn't even have the appeal of that Spanish 70s one, "Boom a bang bang".

The competition is a kitsch fest of which the Eastern European bloc voting is part of the fun. When they had the viewers 'SMS vote there were reasons the U.K. always gave Poland high points...

When I was a kid it was genuinely exciting to see a flickering TV link from Luxembourg or Malta with a foreigner on TV. Now, you can watch Mongolian or Haitian soaps online. I especially recommend music shows from Djibouti. 80s graphics and a few blokes with beards singing under a tree. Ok music

Germany doesn't want to waste more money

We are fearless about wasting money on everything else....nah, that can't be it!

Yet it beats me why we send such **** to Eurovision.

It's nothing less than a miracle, isn't it....or a conspiracy....*scratches head*

Is it tonight?

First semi was last night, tomorrow is second semi and the grand finale is saturday.

music shows from Djibouti

I like a lot of Albanian folk pop, sensual beats (almost a bit like cumbia) whiny clarinets. Fun stuff.

Albania lost out, they won't be in the final....to the big surprise of the commentators....

Not surprising, it wasn't very good... I like some Albanian music but that... wasn't.... it....

The competition is a kitsch fest

Yeah, like you, I loved it as a kid but just can't watch it now.
Crap music and predictable political and ethnic voting.
Just rubbish.

The two have always been inseparable at eurovision (and.... everywhere else).

Who will Serbs give 12 points to? Ukraine?!!!!! an extremely slavic number!!!

And the winner is...Ukraine!!!!!

If Ukraine wins, there will be a paradox next year, the host will be a country that did not even participate this year, and that is....... 😄
mafketis 37 | 10,894
12 May 2022 #145
Ukraine will definitely exist next year.... The phoney and ghey Russian "Federation"?..... that's another story.

I seriously doubt EU public even deserve Serbian Konstrakta. Eurovision. Why we share with losers our spirit. Is there hope for them. Could they even understand.

@Crow
I have just seen Konstrakta and yes, I didn't understand anything.😱
