Readers of the forum might wonder why I call PiS gangsters???

For a good reason.
A few years ago certain decent professor called PIS " an organised criminal group. " PiS sued him but they lost several times from lowest to highest level - eventually, the Supreme Court ruled he was right saying it.

It seems the 'judge' who recently defected to Belarus had links to the PiS regime...

"In 2019, it emerged that a group of judges, including Szmydt, ran an online smear campaign against judges, prosecutors and others opposed to the then PiS government's policies. The group was allegedly coordinated by Łukasz Piebiak, a deputy justice minister.

The episode, which was dubbed the "hate affair" by the Polish media, allegedly involved using social media accounts - including one run by Szmydt's then-wife, Emilia (known online as "mała Emi", meaning "Little Emi") - to smear opponents."

Putin's agent

Don't be silly.

Interesting that a figure linked to the PiS regime would defect to Belarus.

He must like authoritarianism.

a figure linked

What do you mean by 'linked'? You have been living in Poland for at least eight years of Pi~S rule, so you are linked to them by the same logic.

Don't you know that he was heavily involved with the current ruling coalition? Repeating Tusk's lies doesn't take you far and makes you look stupid.

He must like authoritarianism.

No need to look far but the EU, Germany, and France are petty authoritarian when it comes to average people.

Linked.

Read the article. He was an activist going after other judges who didn't support them.

It looks like there is more to this story. I wonder what prompted his defection.

I wonder what prompted his defection

he was a Russian agent/spy - the ABW started investigating him before the last election afaik - arresting him was considered by the ABW some time before he escaped (so yeah the first Tusk's ABW major failure)

Perhaps they had reason not to, and as you say, he was investigated before the election.

Interesting what he'd be able to spy about and also how many other people in the public sector, whether linked to the PiS regime or not) are r*SSian assets.

Interesting what he'd be able to spy

he had access to secret documents as a judge in an administrative court - he gained this (official) access back in 2012 afaik -

here's an article msn.com/pl-pl/wiadomosci/polska/s%C4%99dzia-szmydt-od-dawna-na-celowniku-abw-mia%C5%82-by%C4%87-rozpracowywany-przez-kontrwywiad/ar-BB1lXNnN?ocid=BingNewsSerp

Hopefully he hasn't been able to do too much damage,

I wonder how many others there are.

No. I'm just saying that they had a traitor within their favoured friends. There was always a touch of PRL about PIS. They're a weird bunch. There's a definite Soviet vibe from them but I don't think they're pro-Russia, as a group, quite the opposite.

The judge that was appointed by Komorowski? Pleeease... Don't you know the basic rulebook of a spy, ingratiate yourself with whoever is important?

Plenty, Pis attempted to solve that issue but was stopped by the EU and all other 'liberal' forces. Anyway, they couldn't do anything right even if their lives depended on it.

Don't argue with me though if I say something needs to go in Poland, You have living proof of it now - why?
