Why did PO vote against building the border wall with Belarus?

I think it's because they wanted to appease their voter base who believe that borders are fascist and evil, I don't think it was a coordinated move with Lukashenko, at least I hope not. But in any case, I would hope that now they would vote in favour of it. If not then serious questions need to be asked about their sanity.

I would hope that now they would vote in favour of it.

Yesterday, A PO Posel refused to say wether they would keep or dismantle the border wall, saying it was full of holes and did not prevent rockets and helicopters coming over the border (rolls eyes)

I don't think it was a coordinated move with Lukashenko,

It certainly helped Putin and Lukashenko decide that the west was fragmented in it's response to their aggression and would not unify over ukraine invasion.. thankfully, they were wrong and PO shut up for a while and let the rightful government defend Poland and assist Ukraine.

saying it was full of holes and did not prevent rockets and helicopters coming over the border

Hmmm.. quite clever to be fair, still trying to appease the 'borders are fascist' crowd without alienating the mainstream. Hopefully this sort of compromise will become more and more suffocating for them as time goes on. PiS have to put the pressure on this.

Well, well, well - Donald Tusk, the cunning fox...

onet.pl/informacje/onetwiadomosci/to-on-pomogl-polaczyc-tuska-z-agrounia-szara-eminencja-znow-w-grze/ldcs3y1,79cfc278

... Agrounia will give KO a lot of much needed electoral votes in the countryside.

Is this another nail to Trzecia Droga's coffin? We'll see. One way or another, the campaign has just become even more interesting and the final result of the elections even less predictable.

This doesn't sound too good for PiS, though not great for KO either long term, am I right in assuming that Agrounia are 'socialist Catholics' who oppose abortion?? Not exactly KO's target audience...

Agrounia will give KO a lot of much needed electoral votes in the countryside.

Really? then why haven't agrounia formed their own electoral party? seems they have negligible support.

electoral party?

PSL need their arses kicking really. What a wasted opportunity. And they've gone the way of Spolem, Cepelia and Solidarniosci.

PSL need their arses kicking really.

So do PiS, this whole direct democracy/referendum thing was Kukiz vision, and they're not utilising him at all.
Could have brought back 5-10 percent of the voters that supported PiS before the abortion debacle, by presenting a moderate face ie a moderate faction for people to support within Zjednocona Prawica.

My additional referenda questions would be
- Do you support bringing back the abortion grand compromise
- Do you support civil unions for LG couples?

And have Kukiz be the frontman and spearhead it.

Fair play, looks like PiS is onto an election winner and referendum question :)

An overwhelming majority of Poles are opposed to the controversial EU Migration Pact that would see member states forced to accept new arrivals to the continent or face a financial penalty, new polling has revealed.

According to the latest study commissioned by Poland's Center for European Policy Research, 81.4 percent of Polish respondents are against the idea of mandatory migrant quotas for member states, compared to just 18.6 percent who back the plan.

this whole direct democracy/referendum thing

But it isn't. A referendum has to have a legally binding result. This is not a referendum. This is an opinion poll. It's a gimmick, not an example of direct democracy.

An overwhelming majority of Poles

Of Poles surveyed in the study. And they're probably opposed because they don't realise that Poland has an opt-out :) Poles generally don't give a flying fiddlers about other nations, only themselves. The EU has already said that Poland has taken so many Ukrainians that they don't have to take any migrants, nor do they have pay anything. Do you think Poles really care about the rest of the EU countries?

A referendum has to have a legally binding result.

No it does not, at least not in Australia with the marriage equality referendum. Also Brexit referendum in the U.K. The point of a referendum in countries not used to it is the government is morally obliged to follow the will of the people as a representative democracy.

probably opposed because they don't realise that Poland has an opt-out :)

Stop treating Poles as dumb idiots as typical western expat, of course they know there is a 20k euro fine for not following mandatory requirements..

Very wise aswell, perhaps because central to Catholic teaching is that we are imperfect, fallen creatures and so many Poles have a natural immunity to 'saviour syndrome'. Of course the many that have abandoned the church in favour of Facebook are very vulnerable to it.

there is a 20k euro fine

Not for Poland there isn't.

central to Catholic teaching

I am a Catholic and had fourteen years of convent school education. We were taught to put others first. Not that that's always best practice in real life but the corporal and spiritual works of mercy and the Beatitudes form a strong part of Catholic teaching that are supposed to be part of your daily life.

convent school education. We were taught to put others first

So your Polish mother never told you the story, about the Mongol armies and misc congregations that would plead piousness outside the town walls with a big Christian cross? And once the Polish people put others first and opened the gates, and allowed 'christians' in their town, they would rape and kill all the inhabitants there?
Atch 22 | 4,147

I don't have a Polish mother. I'm Irish. And we learned not to invite people in when we asked the Normans for hand in battle and ended up being invaded! But I wouldn't find Polish history with the Mongols to be any excuse for selfishness and lack of empathy.

Agrounia will give KO a lot of much needed electoral votes in the countryside.

Oh, so that's why we only got measly six squadrons of much needed attack choppers - PiS needs to spend money on opinion polls now. *rolls eyes*

As for opinion polls in general...

@GefreiterKania, I doubt that wp.pl would order a poll that would be purposely biased in PiS' favour o_O 🤔

Thanks, I didn't know about that o_O

Actually, I always take Polish polls with a pinch of salt - my cousin worked for some time for a polling company, so I know how "reliable" they may be. So, no naivety on my part :)

Exactly. I don`t care about others, with the exception of Germans, Jews and Ukrainians. Sorry, I am indifferent even to the Irish.

Nobody has ever asked me to participate in a poll. It is unfair!! If they did, the results would show the true opinion of the nation at last.

how can you not love this little green island?

Because there is hardly any snow in winter. It is not fair.
