The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland?

Weird logic.

Give me a weird counterargument.

Arguments from gun nuts in a nutshell.

Bootlickers like you gave us WW2 and 50 million deaths.

Memo to gun haters:

In a country without guns, guys with knives win.
In a country without knives, guys with baseball bats win.
In a country without baseball bats, guys with fists win.
A country without guys with fists dies from starvation.
Tacitus 2 | 1,379

@Novichok

In a country without guns, guys with knives win.

Hence we have a well-armed police force.

Give me a weird counterargument

Police officers may realistically find themselves in situations in which guns can be useful. Whereas civilians with guns are statistically more of a danger to themselves or others. Police officers have undergone intensive, often-years long training and various psychological testing in order to prepare them an make sure they are fit to handle a gun responsibly.

Your mind may still be living in the Wild West, but times have changed. If you love your family, get rid of your gun.

Bootlickers like you gave us WW2 and 50 million deaths.

As always, you might want to read up on your history. Here is a hint: People who spoke and thought like you gave us WWII when they got a chance to act on their depraved impulses.

BINGO ! Finally an undisputable answer.
I agree 100% to that and have posted here several times that in my opinion, 80% of gun owners are not qualified to own a gun.
Even after they pass their concealed and carry they are not qualified as I have witnessed first had.
I have seen them come to that class not even knowing how to load their gun, where the safety was on it, or how many rounds it held, pointed it innocently at people and then walk out of the class with their concealed and carry license to legally carry a loaded gun on their person. 😨

They then take it and put it under the seat in their car or under their bed and there it stays without ever practicing with it again.

They never seek any training and in a life or death situation without training you are a dead person.
The best point Tacitus brought up is the psychological testing which is the BIGGIE !
There is a bill before Congress right now calling for a mandate that All gun owners be required to take a psychological test in order to own or posses a gun.

We already have a 'Red Flag' law that allows unstable and violent people to be turned into law enforcement to have such a person be tested by the court to see if they are stable and grounded to have their guns removed from their possession like in domestic violence cases for an example.

I want to personally thank Tacitus for a very mature and common sense post in this thread.......finally.

Hence we have a well-armed police force.

BS. Your police, just like ours, is to protect the system, not you. You are just a peg the system needs function.
In the US, cops are not legally required to respond to 911 calls. When they do, on average, they come in 11 minutes. By then, everybody in your house is dead.

Police officers may realistically find themselves in situations in which guns can be useful.

So do civilians. Please don't tell me that a cop's life is more precious than mine I will no longer be nice to you.

Here is a hint: People who spoke and thought like you gave us WWII

Here is a hint: WW2 was possible because of the German Wehrmacht. The SS and Gestapo would not be enough.
Also, "surrender boys" don't cause aggressive wars. German government started the aggressive war and would find me useless or gone to where I could not be reached.

Don't tell me that the German army was all draftees and didn't include volunteers.

If Germany only had the SS and Gestapo, there would be no WW2 and 50 million people would not die. It is the obedient bootlickers like you that made WW2 possible,

Whereas civilians with guns are statistically more of a danger to themselves or others.

Me being a danger to myself is my damn business. Since I never carry a gun outside my house, my gun is not a threat to anyone.

At home, my gun is a threat only to those who kicked my bedroom door in. Then they will die.
I don't need years of practice for this scenario.
Without proof, the vast majority of Americans are exactly like me.

The idea that some trembling azhole would prevent me from getting a gun is as preposterous as some restaurants in Europe removing pork because Muslims don't eat pork.

Relying on cops for self-defense is stupid and disgusting. The message is: I am a fvcking coward so I want you to kill the sob for me currently busy slashing my wife's throat.

This aligns so very well with the Euro attitude regarding NATO aka the US. At least you are consistent as azholes.
Tacitus 2 | 1,379

So do civilians

No, they don't. The statistics are very clear on this.

It is the obedient bootlickers like you that made WW2 possible,

Without the Nazis, there would not have been WW2 period.

Relying on cops for self-defense is stupid and disgusting

It is the only right and safe thing to do. They are trained professionals. When your grandchild has an appendicitis, you dont get your knife and operate on her yourself. You drive her to a hospital.

Since I never carry a gun outside my house, my gun is not a threat to anyone.

Only to yourself, your family, and anyone in your vicinity. Do the right thing, get rid of your guns. Those intruders are just in your head, your family is real.

ll gun owners be required to take a psychological test in order to own or posses a gun.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. Not trying to be unpolite here, but this whole gun thing seems irrational to me. It makes everyone more unsafe and it causes a lot of other issues down the line (my suspicion is that police brutality is such an issue in the US partly because US police officers have to be a lot more forceful and careful in their interaction with civilians, since anyone could carry a gun).

Even if owning a gun is a right, there should be checks in place to make sure that the person is mentally stable and knows what he is doing. Don't know how the situation is in Poland, but I am currently looking into acquiring a hunting license in Germany. It is quite a long way, but I think the conditions (completing mandatory training over several weeks, background checks and irregular checks on how I store my gun) are reasonable.

The statistics are very clear on this.

When my life is threatened, I don't give a fvck about statistics. I need that gun just as much as a cop whose life is on the line. No difference.

Without the Nazis, there would not have been WW2 period.

BS. In 1939, the Nazi party had 6 million members of all ages. Assume 1 million men of military age and fitness. Germany could not go to war with Europe and the USSR with 1 million soldiers.

It is the only right and safe thing to do.

No. Cops are not next to me to protect me. They will be in my house in 11 minutes - if I can even make that 911 call. By the time they arrive, I will be dead.

Only to yourself,

My safety is my damn business and so is my decision to have a gun or not.

but this whole gun thing seems irrational to me

Bootlickers find many things irrational. Like free speech and the sacred right to self-defense - the most fundamental of all rights. A right to live...

Now, I am not an unreasonable person...If the US government confiscates all the guns and knives and provides the death penalty for owning them without a license, I will consider giving mine up.

The longer I am here on this forum the greater my contempt for Euros.

11 minutes

If a burglar sees that you have a gun, he can shoot you multiple times during these 11 minutes. Without a gun, maybe he'd just tie you up and get on with his job. Compare which is better, dead armed or alive unarmed?

Without a gun, maybe he'd just tie you up and get on with his job.

...or maybe he is a nig*er or on drugs and will kill you for fun or to eliminate a witness.
Once he is done with you, he and his buddy will rape your wife and murder her so she will not testify at their trial.

If a burglar sees that you have a gun,

He won't because he will be shot first. My gun is strictly for self-defense at home. That's why I have a gun on every floor. I never carry it outside.

BTW, genius, if being unarmed is such a great idea why is Z asking for more guns? How about just letting Russians invade Ukraine?
Compare which is better - dead armed or alive unarmed? If Ukrainians didn't have guns, 500,000 of them would be alive today.

Your posts are embarrassing...

In the same way, if you didn't have any guns in your house, a burglar wouldn't shoot you.

All of the safety and security arguments about this are missing the basic point....

A lot of Americans just like guns, as in they _really_ like guns.

The overwhelming majority of those who have guns (98 % or so) are responsible non-crazy people who are conscious of safety issues and are never involved in crime or other irresponsible behavior.

Those who are in favor of gun control are actually concerned primarily with urban gangs (overwhelmingly black and/or latino) but can't say so publicly because of fears of racism, so they try to justify gun control by attacking rural whites whose gun ownership very rarely involves serious problems.

The constitution sees the right to own weaponry as something a government can't interfere with.

Most Europeans just aren't that into guns and maybe a higher percentage of those who _are_ into guns are the type that probably shouldn't be around them.

Most Europeans don't think of guns as some kind of natural god-given right.

Gun crime in Europe is far lower per capita than the US (this is true of most serious crimes).

US =/= Europe, different societies formed by different historical and cultural realities and there is no need for one to become more like another.

Gun safety is marrying a short girl and keeping your gun on the top shelf.
She might get ya but a least you will have a chance hearing her dragging the chair across the floor.

Hey, Tacitus, read what maf wrote:

82m Americans own guns

So your 98 percent of them being sane and responsible still leaves 1.8m unstable gun owners.

Seems like a big number from a European perspective

Those unstable people own cars.
Unstable people have kids.
Now what?

Life everywhere is a lottery. The trick is to minimize the chance of losing.
Step 1: Stay with the whites and avoid black thugs.

I just guesstimated the numbers trying to over-estimated the number of irresponsible users and they mostly shoot at each other though unfortunately they tend to have bad aim and often hit bystanders... and/or they just blindly shoot into a crowd (party shooters...).

These are the top 10 Illinois cities that made the 100 Safest Cities in America list for 2024, according to SafeWise:

Naperville, ranked No. 12 safest city in the U.S.
Palatine, 30.
Mount Prospect, 31.

I lived in Naperville for 17 years. Now I live in Palatine, I used to work in Mount Prospect for 30 years.

Naperville murder rate: 0.7
Poland murder rate: 0.7

Naperville median income: $140,000
Poland median income: $20,000

Guns in Naperville: a lot
Guns in Poland: none

Now, where would I rather live? Let me think...OK, I can't decide right now but I will let you know before the day is up...

Probably a reasonable guesstimate though

An alternative way of looking at it.

65m Americans are on some form of mental health prescription medicine (20 percent)

82m have guns (25 percent)

That means circa 13m with guns and on prescription mental health medicine

Leaves

You need to learn how to defend yourselves without Americas help.
This is why it is so important for you to own and know how to shoot a gun.
When the enemy invades Poland you will have a civilian militia to hold them off until the police gets there to save you.

Which greatly reduces the mystique of guns... I grew up around many guns and was taught basic gun safety and how to shoot by my father... and guns have never been that interesting to me (though I understand the attraction that others might feel).

Get hysterical about guns and their very existence and availability.... and you create a lot of people who end up desperately wanting guns....
