Language / chmura/y vs obłok(i) [6]

Are these chmura/y and obłok(i) just synonyms for clouds, or are there specific contexts in which you would rather use the one than the other?

Language / Rozpoczynać - Zaczynać [12]

I meant are there any other words similar to rozpoczynać that should also not be used with verbs, and if so, which are they, and how would I know them if I come across them?

Language / Rozpoczynać - Zaczynać [12]

Rozpocząłem pracować w nowej firmie <- verb 'pracować' WRONG! This sounds BAD and NEVER use it this way.

OK, but why? I ask this question, because there will be other words like rozpoczynać, and I won't know which ones they are if there isn't some rule that points me in the right direction...

Language / Rozpoczynać - Zaczynać [12]

Thanks Mike. Are they used in different contexts, or just swaps?

Language / Rozpoczynać - Zaczynać [12]

Time to test what I've learnt...

Is zaczynać the perfect form of the imperfect verb rozpoczynać, or are they just synonyms?

Language / Conjugation of rąbać (to chop wood) [6]

Thanks Vince and Mushroom. This morning when I woke up, I thought about the
-ę conjugation, and wondered, and now you've both confirmed it.

Language / Conjugation of rąbać (to chop wood) [6]

Please help with the conjugation of rąbać (to chop wood)?

As far as I know, and in general (because I know how many iregularnies there are, hence the question),

verbs ending in -ać are conjugated with -am, -asz, -a, etc,

so according to this rule, rąbać should become rąbam, rąbacz, rąba, rąbamy, etc.,

but it sounds really funny, so I just wanted to ask.

Life / Indian Stores In Warsaw [139]

The Asian House has branches in ul. Poznańska and in Galeria Mokotów. I know that they have two other branches, just can't remember the addresses, but they have leaflets in the store with all the addresses of the four branches.

Hope you enjoy it here. We're from South Africa and we really have so far.

Travel / Best Easter Eggs in Warsaw? [9]

so the marmite pot has arrived, has he?

I have no idea what the street number is, or exactly where, but I saw the other day as I came into Marszałkowska street (not from the city centre side, but where it's still a one way next to the tremline on the way into the city centre) on the left hand side of the road there's a chocolaterie. haven't tried it yet - dangerous place for Muff to go to - but maybe they'll have some?

Travel / How much is a cab: Warsaw airport to the bus station? [27]

don't take any of the ones that are waiting to pick u up - call Ele or Sawa, and wait a little bit - unless of course one of them is ready to pick you up.

23 euro was a bit of a rip-off, i think

Food / Polish Eating Habits [87]

I don't see why Polish people have to start eating 'healthy'. They somehow burn all the kilojoules they absorb - walking their dogs in the park if nothing else! If you can get away with that, why not? I am awaiting a storm by the forum ...;)

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

Again, I haven't read the thread. So probably, this is a very silly question - if so forgive my stupidity. Why is it so important whether Poland is in Central or Eastern Europe? It is central - by the way ;)

Genealogy / Are all Poles blue eyed and blonde? [451]

So it would appear that not all Poles are blond and blue eyed then.....a very small minority it would seem are maybe red headed ?

except for all the polish ladies (esp older ones) colouring their hair the most disgusting shades of red that i could have ever imagined - anything from carrot to some mixture of purple and ruby red - ouch!!
