Travel / Travelling from Rzeszów to Szczecin [7]

I'd take train from Rzeszow to Krakow (less then 4 hrs) and fly from there to Szczecin. Intercity trains are comfy but anything over 6 hours in train would be painful.

USA, Canada / If you moved from US to Poland, could you please share your experience? [16]

It's been over all a very good move for me to leave US for Poland, after 12 years. I still remember first days when I definitely had experienced a culture shock - everything was so familiar but at the same time alien it was. It was a great relive to be able to speak polish again, some of my first polish sentences had elements of English grammar - I've been using a lot passive voice...but words would come up out of me with joy....walking around my home town was a blast...I had this feeling of being among my own people again, would be starring at school soccer field with open jaw, walking old paths again and again - this would last for months! Being race conscious I realized polish people were racially different, had different shades of skin colour, some were Latino alike, some had Asian features, I would notice lots of American culture influence - something I don't see or notice anymore - guy waling with Oakland Raiders baseball hat, music with lyrics I could understand and judge while others could only hear the melody...It was shocking to realize people don't save water and consider it stupid to save water or electricity, I would tip American way and in fact still do; I found food to be delicious and apples with worms considered organic prove. Polish appeared to be sometimes extremely rude and customer service was a joke (attitude). Women were cleaning the table after family dinner...

Life / Lack of human rights in Poland? [132]

^ this would be some 4th tier I would propose then:

Left Wing Clubs

AS Livorno Calcio (Italy--and probably the most left-leaning on this list)
*Celtic F.C (Scotland--Irish nationalist, but Irish nationalism is generally leftist)
*AEK Athens (Greece)
*Barcelona (Spain)
*Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany)
*St Pauli (Germany)
*Athletic Bilbao (Spain)
*PFC Lokomotiv Sofia (Bulgaria)
*Feyenoord Rotterdam (Netherlands)
*U.C Sampdoria (Italy)
*Polonia Warszawa (Poland)
*Malmo FF (Sweden--ironically in Malmo, probably the most right-wing part of Sweden)*
Bohemians 1905 (Czech Republic)
*Hapoel Tel Aviv FC (Israel--their logo is the communist hammer and sickle)
*FC Arsenal Kyiv (Ukraine)
*Olympique de Marseilles (France)
*Besiktas (Turkey)
*Impact de Montreal (Canada--they wave Cuban and Che flags during matches)
*Seattle Sounders FC (USA--the singles most antifascist club in America)
U.S.D. Virtusvecomp Verona(Italy)
Vasco Da Gama(Brazil--Fought racism and won)
Athletic Club Omonoia Nicosia(Greece)
Sporting Toulon (France)
Bologna F.C. 1909 I(taly)
Portland Timbers(USA)
Standard de Liège (Belgium)

Right-wing/Fascist clubs
*Zenit St Petersburg (Russia-Most fascist and rightwing club on this list, virulently racist, they won't even let non-whites on the team and have admitted this publicly)

*S.S Lazio (Italy--tied with Zenit, at least, supporter wise)
*Rangers FC (Scotland)
*Spartak Moscow (Russia)
*Lokomotiv Moscow FC
*Real Madrid C.F (Spain)
*Red Star Belgrade (Serbia--Ironic, eh?)
*A.S Roma (Italy)
*LKS Lodz (Poland)
*Helsingborgs IF (Sweden)
*S.L Benfica (Portugal--Has notable left-wing firms though)*
Hamburg (Germany)
*Partizan (Serbia)
*Chelsea (England)
*Hellas Verona F.C. (Italy--This one is pretty fascist too)
*Sporting Lisbon (Portugal--They have white nationalist groups attending that beat up anyone of color in attendance)
*Millwall (England)
Atletico Madrid (Spain)
FC Twente (Holland)
Shamrock Rovers (Ireland)
Paris St Germain (France)
Racing Club (Argentina)

Life / Lack of human rights in Poland? [132]

I understand the concern that a group responsibility has been applied here by justice system, something to avoid in general. Yet, we are dealing here with a bunch of football hooligans terrorizing the rest of us for years now and often causing significant damages to property, without any repercussions. I applaud police tactics to lock them all up and prevent them from seeing football game they are to attend if - like the Lazio case - they refuse to rid off bad apples from the traveling group. We know the scenario: they do damages, throw stones, fight and when Police arrives there are no witnesses, no ways to establish who did what. Police reply: ok angels, you are here for football game so none of you would see it. Fine with me.

News / Are the Germans taking back Świnoujście? [22]

No concern for this one. One may have impression Swinoujscie has lots of Germans but only ...from October to April when Polish tourists are indeed gone. Town is on the list of newly approved EU infrastructure/transportation project TEN-T - connecting Baltic with Adriatic, so it would likely get this under the river, road tunnel and would perhaps feel more connected to mainland.

On similar note borderland LÖCKNITZ, GERMANY is ...taken by Poles.

Life / Polish people are the most ignorant people in the world! [331]

hey, back to topic guys, keep up good work.

A TLK Krakow - Warsaw train was stopped last Friday when a woman became worried after seeing a Muslim praying.

According to TVN, the 59-year-old got off the train at the next station and phoned her husband after witnessing the Moroccan student behaving "suspiciously". Her husband in turn contact the police.

"She misinterpreted the situation. He did not behave dangerously," says police spokeswoman Barbara Stepien.

Like, say me ..I often go to see Pogon Szczecin with a kitchen knife. Clear enough to see folks been throwing something into police car escorting them to the stadium.

Life / Becoming a Polish citizen, what did it change for you? [6]

Anne Applebaum is a Pulitzer prize winner American journalist, married to Poland's secretary of state Radek Sikorski - she's kind of small scale American celebrity in Poland and she said something very similar to what you did say in your first post. Anyway she did get polish citizenship already (checked) . Pardon for any confusion ...thought she finally did pay a visit to the fPF

News / Premier says no recession for Poland [148]

Looking at the working poor - class - pardon the Marxist term on here - ...in Poland and elsewhere in Europe I would definitely prefer to be poor in Poland then in the West. It is just better to be in a country from which you could immigrate for a temporary job, say seasonal job for few months and make enough $$ to live back home for many more months and be work free. Also I can hardly imagine any poor person in the West being able to buy/own property with some dead-end job. In Poland owning cheap but your own space is actually affordable and could be realistic project for anybody healthy and willing - not to mention that lots of home properties in Poland had been already acquired in privatization scheme for some small percentage of its value.

I'd say hope is here for the poor, not so for the poor in the West

Life / Child abuse in Poland [64]

Almost all small children are smacked during the first three years of life when they begin to walk and to touch objects which may not be touched - worldwide. Most people tolerate this blindly because the origins of human violence in childhood have been and are still being ignored - worldwide. Beaten children very early on assimilate the violence they endured, which they may glorify and apply later as parents, in believing that they deserved the punishment and were beaten out of love. They don't know that the only reason for the punishments they had to endure is the fact that their parents themselves endured and learned violence without being able to question it.

Travel / Is Warsaw dangerous nightly ? [14]

Avoid train station area. Dogs might be a problem on early morning hours when some people take them out without the leash. Overall it is safe. Police may be checking on you whether you are ok, not drunk etc but may not fine you for say sleeping an the bench. Also I would avoid staying next to large apartment buildings where you could encounter some overactive youth

News / Premier says no recession for Poland [148]

Technically we did escape recession and growth is almost certain - not the one we would dream about ( 5-8%) but something around 2-3%.
New tranche of EU funds would be definitely increasing employment, growth and media attention - we could expect 2014 being a success story told by media at least showing us what has been built here and there. Szczecin has been visibly business busy in summertime after some hesitation visible in early spring on consumer part. If we don't have a dreadful autumn -weather wise - optimism will continue till Christmas. Ballot day is 2 years from now and Tusk may be loosing even more yet as long as PiS would stay below 50% we could expect easy SLD PSL PO coalition as - I hope - PiS wouldn't find anybody to partner with.

Travel / Going to Pomorskie, Kwidzyn from gdansk by train [10]

is it possible for me to pay at the train station, and is the rate for both student and non student.?

Give yourself 20 min before departure time to buy ticket at train station, buying ticket on the train is plus 6.50 zl and no ticket has to be reported before they start tickets control. Show your student ID at the box office.

Green (TLK ) are usually faster and don't stop everywhere, are more comfortable and you could have a drink or snack on board. Red ones arebasicly cheaper and slower. You may take both providing they get you where you are going.

Study / Student dormitories vs private rooms in Poland. What's the best option? [12]

student dormitory rooms are usually small in size and it could get noisy from time to time; advantage being also an easy access to your fellow students and getting all sorts of information from them ( where to go, how to get there, etc ). This is very important at the beginning ...

Good private room has lots of advantages, too like more privacy, quiet if you want some peace, best imo are rooms close to dormitory - you'd have both: your own privacy and social aspect of dormitory living.
