Life / Communion money in Poland [27]

@Atch

Ya she is not happy about it, finds it extreme. The kid will end up with around 5000 zloty between godparents, grandparents etc. Madness, With the restaurants closed we won't even get a dinner out of it lol

Life / Problems adjusting in Poland [12]

t's a tough time everywhere at the moment where there are lock downs. Hopefully when summer comes and lockdown and restrictions are lifted it will allow you to explore a bit more and start to enjoy your new home. Firstly I would suggest talking to your partner if not done already. Everyone's experience is different. The language is the hardest part, if you can get some basics at least should help, something I need to do myself!

Work / Moving to Poland, Working for a UK Company [34]

Firstly you need to complete a P85 form with HMRC in UK so they know you live abroad and want to use the double tax agreement between Poland & UK. This means you need to do self assessment yearly as if you were self employed. You then need to declare yourself somehow in Poland with tax authorities (I've not done that bit myself 🙈😊)

@Ania_Bat
if you want to live Poland fulltime and remain employed in UK you would need to complete a P85 form to declare this. However you don't need to do this if you are only going on short term visit, as long as your employer agrees with that.

gov.uk/government/publications/income-tax-leaving-the-uk-getting-your-tax-right-p85/guidance-for-filling-in-this-form

Don't fill in this form if:

you normally live in the UK and you're going abroad for short periods, for example on holiday or a business trip

Real Estate / Buying a 'Surowy Otwarty' House [3]

Hi

I am purchasing a house in Surowy Otwarty (raw open) state so checking if anyone has had similar experience and can offer any advise. We will be buying the property in cash, working on it a bit then looking to get loan/mortgage to finish later.

Quick background: I am Irish living in Poland working for UK Company
My partner is Polish

Queries: Seller introduced us to a solicitor. Solicitor is saying we need a translator as i don't speak/read Polish
Should the solicitor fees be shared between seller and buyer or onus is on buyer?
Should I get an independent survey of the property before purchasing?

Ideally those who have experience with the same or similar can provide some assistance. Thanks in advance

Yes, the law requires it so you do need a translator - but you don't need a solicitor :))

thanks for clarifying, I have phoned a couple local ones since and they confirmed this also. Not expensive so not an issue

A solicitor is not required for property transactions in Poland. People normally use a notary.

Yes my partner just clarified this also. The one we are using is a notary and solicitor so hense my confusion!

Btw, I remember your first posts here a while back. Hope life in Poland is going well for you :)

All going well thanks. Great that lock down has lifted can explore a bit and get out and about.

Law / Car Insurance in Poland for only 2-3 months [4]

4. Can you drive in Poland with an Irish license (short term only)?

a driving licence issued in the EU or EFTA member state is recognised in Poland and can be used as long as it is valid. It does not need to be exchanged.

All good thanks. In Poland vs UK, at least the car can move here as living in London anytime i drove it would be sitting in traffic. I have done a good bit of driving here now and agree there are some crazy drivers out there!!
