Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

But is it possible that sone of your problems dealing with Poles and always feeling they will rip you off, cones from the way you comport yourself - You seem suspicious of outsiders, Get upset about small things,Focus very much on your own wealth, and if you call people riff raff that would indicate that you feel superior.

I haven't really had any more problems dealing with locals here than I have been in the other country - the people I'm not inherently out to cheat you, the business culture is obviously developing and people get more experienced and build long-term relationships.

Life / Tips on tipping in Poland [45]

I have flown many times from Germany to the US without a lecture on tipping taking place. Most people are able to read a guidebook !

I agree that in this case 50 zloty is fine, 100 would be generous.

You can't compare with the US where tipping supports a broken system of low wage inequality and workers put up with it because they have little choice - whenever I am in the US I feel obliged to tip even when service is poor,

Life / Polish Militia - the growth of unofficial militia groups in Poland. [6]

Not sure about the Dads army stuff but your village might have a volunteer fire brigade that has a bit of training once a week and some pretty good booze ups. One of my relatives was doing that and actually had to deal with quite a few fires over the years

Love / How do guys from Poland flirt? [47]

While I can imagine that happening in the US, it seems an implausible pick up strategy in Catholic / communist early 60's Poland which is where I thought you grew up ?

News / Israel opposing potential new Polish law to criminalise term 'Polish death camps' [1538]

But have you considered the reasons behind societies that have higher living standards, more wealth, less violence and inequality and longer lifespans than Chicago ? Places that you mock like Sweden, Switzerland, Holland, Japan, Australia.

People there do seem to accept higher taxes as the price of a safety net and a fair deal and they have a greater level of empathy than US or Russian society.

Some bingo words that will be in your reply. Migrant scum, rape gangs, Merkel, Soy Boy, Londonistan, cucks.

How do you know the cost of living is different - what if the only surgeon has five kids to feed and the German one only one kid? Isn't the service performed exactly the same? Why are people'is relative cost bases and issue?

Of course the answer is that labour markets are rigged - in a truly open market let's see how much someone will pay you to fix the shingles.

You mock university education yet these are the kind of questions that you could answer even after a few lessons of economics in any university.

Real Estate / Problems after renting room in Krakow as student; I just got lease termination - bound to leave in 30 days [5]

Terri is right - grab your stuff and go. That is best for both of you.

Don't assume that he is not declaring it from tax - the vast majority of landlords these days to fill in the requisite tax forms.

Not sure what you mean by serious social engineering, if you mean you want to harrass this guy afterwards that sounds like an unwise thing to do. Surely the aim is to get out without paying anything extra And not to make the guys life a misery? This rental hasn't worked out but I am sure there are two sides to every story.

Life / Any one in need of a bulldog? A dog's life in Poland [39]

Doug you are right about the walking thing - Alsatians are the second most popular breed in Poland and there are plenty on my street but I never see anyone walking them - poor creatures get bored and frustrated and then bark so loud they could wake the dead.

Life / Meeting new people in Warsaw [10]

If you don't like pubs and clubs that is fine but if you also don't want to attend sober meet ups or activities then you are going to struggle - your options will probably be the gym, work, online dating or cold approaching girls on the street or in a coffee shop (by the sounds of it that would be what you call sleazy chat up lines even though it is perfectly normal).

Why not try some kind of meet ups ? Even if you are shy everyone else will be in the same boat

News / Poland Sports News [985]

Can the mods move the last few comments to one of the many threads about migrants ? Imagine a casual new reader of this forum clicking here to read about sport and in fact reading about rape gangs and how other women are dogs

So you have obviously never attended a soccer game in Poland - no surprise as you dont spend much time here. Almost all Ekstraklasa teams have foreign players - from Africa ans South America. The national team has had players born in nigeria, brazil, france, germany

Again its sad that this normal Polish sports thread has been a place to discuss eugenics- just like the sports thread in off topic has. Probably time to bail soon and leave this forum to Rich and the visa seekers of Delhi.

Off-Topic / Social Media - who uses Facebook or similar? [45]

No because i only use it for the most innocuous reasons - liking vacation snaps or sports results. I cant be bothered to argue about politics there.

Its a private business and they can do what they want - there is a thread about thus with Rich talking nonsense- comparing it to water, electricity, email etc

Off-Topic / Social Media - who uses Facebook or similar? [45]

If you don't like it then there is a simple solution- leave. Its not compulsory to use it and probabky healthier and more productive not to.

Why doesn't Arron Banks or Bannonj or the Koch brothers make some kind of swivel eyed facebook where people can say what they want all day long ? That would solve the problem

Of course - stands to reason that a 34 year old tech billionaire would take instructions from a retired 80 something banker, whose fortune is about 30 times smaller than his own.

Interestingly those who attribute the stock market boom to Trump ignore just how much of the increase is being driven by tech companies values rising while they are hoovering up advertising markets and consumers,

Advertisers are not interested in the alt right because they are generally old, low income and unwilling to try new products.

But the solution is obvious - they can start their own social media site where anything goes, they can abuse people, praise Putin or engage in conspiracy theories until the cows come home. The billion odd people who want to stick with Facebook can then be at peace while they take photos of their kids sandcastles and check out their ex girlfriends new hunk.

Life / Small change in shops in Poland!? [95]

In a 2 day trip to
Warsaw i think i have been asked for change maybe 10 times - mostly in nero, starbucks but also zabka, Carrefour, bookshop

The coffee shops have weird prices like 10.40 or 13.60 but then dont have change needed if you give them a 20

Law / Inheritance Law in Poland (protecting myself from in laws) [25]

Your brother in law has some nerve - why have a kid if he cant support it ?

See a lawyer but as G says it might be best to put it in your own name though if you die first then it might be that your husband is back to square 1 and may have to use that to care for his mum (there is no legal obligation to provide for your brothers as far as I know)

Another possibility would be to put a small mortgage on the apartment in Poland, say for 10 percent of the value. That way nobody could try and get the apartment without also taking on the debt and while it's not much money for you it's a lot of money to a Pole who has no source of income.

I think at some point in the next 10 years the Polish inheritance laws will get a complete rewrite - in old days when everyone was a farmer or factory worker and nobody had any money and only small commie flats there was not always much worth arguing about.

Nowadays with wealth, emigration , more divorce, people living longer then the current system is just generating too many complications.
