News / Austria's swing to the far right on Poland? [214]

However, they eventually lightened up to Poles as they see Poles assimilate,

Yes and no- PC causes frustration so the only people that British can lash out without being accused of racism are Polish...

. They are questioning how committed some countries really are to the EU, and rightfully so.

So opening borders to unlimited emigration without any ID shows commitment to UE?

As large part of German population is still willing to take more co -called 'refuges' it is part of TV/press brainwashing and propaganda in Germany and part of their eternal feeling of guiltiness.

WHY ARE OTHER COUNTRIES TO FOLLOW IT ?????

Genealogy / Why are some Polish people dark complected, and others very light [511]

Us siblings always wrote it off as milkman, mailman and her husband. :-)

:-)

I remember from school times ( ages ago) that about 80% children had blue or green eyes....I was odd one with brown ones. So as per saying 'exception confirms the rule'.....I would say I has been like this in Poland for a while.

countries only exist for a while, then change shape or name or disappear. wherever the border is redrawn becomes the new nationality ...

What does it mean for a while?.... 1 hundred....2 hundred years. I think in each country there is some kind of mode- people with certain feature.....north Europe....south Europe....South America....

Anthropologist, historian have studied these subjects for years so I wouldn't treat this subject in such a superficial matter.

I don't think it's about hair/eye colour or height/body built, it's more about some looks you kind of have seen and associate with Poles.

That is true but it depends how long you live abroad some emigrants ( with time) get more and more similar to locals.

I have friend - English- her family comes from Liverpool.

She is very pretty - Quite a few people asked her/thought that she was Polish. Not sure why...general her look ,clothes she wears...mannerism....she has zero polish roots.

Yet there are still people I see abroad that look 'Polish' to me. Judging from my own experience, I look Polish, too. And I'm not blonde (even though I was as a kid).

I usually distinguish Slavic look like Polish, Chech, Slovakian. I always thought that I look Polish but my first job in UK was customer orientated and some people asked me if I was Italian...Spanish (I have brown eyes and slightly dark complexion) ....no one asked me if I was Polish. I remember one man asked me if I'm Scottish - I guess it was my accent :-)

@Tacitus

How this analogy works with Europe?

Not so many guns in circulation in Europe but still few nasty terrorist attacks.....

We have polish saying 'odwracanie kota ogonem' which matches very well your analogy.

UK, Ireland / Polish career criminal gets six years for rape [43]

One of the main reasons crime in Poland has fallen so much over the last 13 years is that we exported a lot of our scum.

Ha,ha Hary but you are not polish and you sound like completely settled in Poland?

I think 6 years is not long enough sentence....but again how much got this bloke his brother and wife for torture an killing baby P- not much so.....****** liberal courts again.

I thought that historically every country was created to have borders-army to support it and independence. Don't you see danger with uncontrolled influx of people without any ID, lying about their nationality.....just influx, influx with no end ???????

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

That is true I always remember Poland when I left. Even I visit few times a year as we have flat in Krakow but visiting is different to living and working there.

On positive side -at every visit I see difference and it is rather good one.I think we are much more open now. Polish visit different countries in Europe ( for work, holidays) Foreign companies invest in Poland. There is this perception that we never smile and look gloomy. I think it changed too....people on the street look much more relaxed and smile more.

@kaprys

I don't see any Poles returning to Poland.

I know few who returned but there are different reasons for it. These were couples with small children and they just decided that they want to bring them up in Poland. I think it depends from which part of Poland someone comes from...In Krakow there are quite a few good jobs so people come back.

attract skilled workers to fill gaps in the UK labour market. .

That is where UK is very good....attract skilled workers from other countries so they don't have to cover costs of their education.Bit cynical and can backfire when these skilled workers start heading home after Brexit.

So... it's the native British population's fault?

That is not what I said....Can you imagine situation like this in Poland- Organised groups of Asians rape, exploit young girls from broken ,dysfunctional homes.

Some people ( including these girls) try to notify authorities about it but they are dismissed as Police/Social Services don't want to get involved and accused of being racists. So it was going for years...

Criminals are everywhere but it is Police job to catch and punish them and they did not do it what I think is SHAMEFUL.

@cms
I agree with you in all points except migrants. uncontrolled-undocumented migration is dangerous. If you can't identify them you can't punish them.....scary.

Mafketis@

Rotheram is not good example- lots of these rapists were born in UK- but political correctness and a bit British 'culture' that if you brush problem under the carpet it does not exist caused it.

They are criminals but Police,local authorities did nothing to resolve it which I find disgusting!.

it feels although it's already been cooked as it is fairly firm.

I guess it is already cooked (smoked). To make it warm and tastier you can cut it along in halves and fry with onion.

Po polsku / Amerykańskie chamstwo? [133]

@kaprys

Ale- jesli np w malej spolecznosci liczba emigrantow zaczyna dorownywac liczbie lokalnej ludnsci zaczyna sie robic nieprzyjemnie bo 'natives' czuja sie zagrozeni. Wydaje mi sie ze to jest dosc uniwersalna prawda na ktora UE zamyka oczy I I udaje ze tego nie widzi.

Language / How well do Polish people understand Slovak? [88]

Slovak is easier to pronounce and to learn than Polish, so I'd go for it. It also sounds very cute.

Exactly- Cute. I really like Slovakian language. For us Polish it sounds a little like children talk and it usually makes us smile :-)

Po polsku / Amerykańskie chamstwo? [133]

I'd wager the majority of Poles, as well as other foreigners living in the British Isles, are in favor of Brexit.

No, they are not- Why would they be for Brexit? I am lucky one as I have dual citizenship but lots of European people in UK worry about their status after Brexit

and in general feel unwanted here :-(

It mainly narrow-minded 'little Englanders'( as they call them here :-)) and retired people voted for Brexit.

cooperation, not separatism, remains our greatest asset in the fight against organized terror:-)

Unfortunately there is very little unity in Europe ( EU) now - irrelevant with or without UK-and cooperation is often forced and imposed on other countries by Germany .

'Tempest in a teapot'- I never heard it - It must be American version of this saying :-)
