Genealogy / Was my moms family (Kowalsky) Russian or Polish? [35]

Neither...you are American.

He's talking about ethnicity not nationality (Americans are divided by ethnicity such as African america, Indian Americans etc.)
Now I'm no expert but it is very possible that their is Polish somewhere there-even today there are many Poles living on the borderland regions of Belarus and Lithuania. Try asking your family members and doing some research etc.

But if it bothers you that much you can always do a genealogy test.

News / The US sends troops to Poland for drills [83]

Crow

Those are foreign soldiers on Polish ground and Poles always and regularly had bad luck with foreign army on their lands

The U.S has over a 1000 military bases worldwide and spends ridiculous amount of money on the military(I think more then all the next leading nations put together) they are clearly war mongers. I wish for the end of the vassalage of Poland but I don't know if it can be done. :(

Even if they had, ports are no good when one doesn't have access to the oceans.

Look on a map, Russia has access to the Oceans

What civilization are you talking about? As for Poland we don't have any separate civilization from Europe.

Europe is a continent( and not a very well defined one either), all it is and all it ever will be, not a civilization but many civilizations within a continent.

Life / Being a Jew in modern-day Poland; Israeli Jew who is of Polish descent [269]

ethnic Jew than an actual religious Jew

I thought you said your Polish decent? This is like equivalent to calling someone ethnic Muslim?-Just curiosity, do you consider Ethiopian Jews ethnic Jews too?

I was in Poland this summer and even small cities have operational Synagogues and Jewish community centers, in fact a Jewish community center was right across from where I stayed. Now was there selective targeting of the Jewish center? yes there were several in the past and probably will be more in the future but not as common as you think and nothing too serious. But If you are not too religious and don't go around telling everyone your "ethnic Jew" you wont attract these kinds of people. As for normal people in Poland, they simply wont care.

The U.S has its reputation (as the country that invades other countries that oppose its policies) to consider. However this wont scare Russia and the U.S is not that brainless to try anything yet. But if the title was U.S sends missiles they promised Poland years ago... then we might have something

News / Little statistics about immigrants in Poland. Employment and job prospects. [25]

Sorry, I am a biology student so I see things from a biological prospective. This is what I learned in university and to be frank the world is going to be way too overpopulated (places like India, Philippines and other third world countries with high birth rates contribute significantly to this)

Poland is predicted to go into a steep decline that will last at least until the end of this century

in the next century(If we manage not to collapse from lack of energy sources to provide for this population), a higher population also means more strain on resources and a smaller one means that less resources will be required. A smaller population is economically sustainable, a large rapid growing population isn't, low birth rates and low death rates are a usual sign that a country is developed (and are ideal conditions). Immigration inst bad, but keep in mind that 1) I live in Canada and I can tell you, not all immigrant's will assimilate(and they shouldn't be forced too either) 2)

and it means that a lot of those higher wages are going to be spent supporting the elderly rather than being free for investment in the future

what do you have in mind then, Infinite growth? unreasonable. I think old people deserve to be taking care of considering that they built the economy and supported people like you. In the future I wouldn't worry about too little people, I'd worry about the opposite 3) Less people is easier to manage to ensure maximum productivity. 4) again Immigrants are not bad, but from a biological prospective they will significantly alter the genetic material (especially long prolonged immigration) from the native area.

I can go on but honestly..no one will read it.

Demographic winter is going to be a real problem for European countries, including Poland

Keep in mind Global warming, the world is changing and not static as you may think

Less people means more resources to go around and that means easier job market and higher wages. Immigrants are not bad

Second generation will turn to be native

but I don't agree with integration and not all the immigrant will agree with it too, just keep that in mind.

History / Ukrainian-occupied Eastern Poland [135]

Yeah, its too strategic for Russia to give it up

Russians offered them East Prussia in the early 1990

Sources?

Many are Catholic in Western Ukraine, but I think its a different type

History / Ukrainian-occupied Eastern Poland [135]

Correct the Polish government along with Hungary and Romania received a letter from the Russian Duma to partition Ukraine

Pomerania is a tricky one, you can say its the punishment Germany gets for invading Poland, destroying Warsawa (around 90%!) and countless other cities, stealing Polands national treasures, forced slave labor, more then 3 million polish killed, many also killed by concentration camps (not including Jews), you get the point I could go on forever.

If Poland ever should take it back

Most people/peoples ancestors that came from the Ukraine part of Kresy where killed or relocated to Silesia. The problem is the crazy Neo-Nazis in Ukraine (oddly most prominent in former eastern Poland/Kresy), even the current government of Ukraine admits theirs a problem. Many people fear them and they will do anything to defend their Bandera idiology (They claim Volyn-Galicia is theirs). They simply will make that area too dangerous and stir trouble to prevent Poles from returning. And even though my ancestors lived here, I think its a bad move until their is no more Banderite fascist around.

If it was that easy to get it back, it would have already been done.

Part of me wants to let this go, but another part wants justice for all those people that were massacred, it bothers me that some Ukrainians have the nerve to be waving UPA flags and worship Bandera. No respect.

Genealogy / The typical Polish look, or all Eastern Europeans [656]

Why are people obsessing about looking Polish? I am Polish but when people see me they think I am Russian or they say I look more Russian then Polish, or if I am Polish why don't I have blue eyes and blond hair? (some people think everyone in Poland has blond hair and blue eyes), So I am guessing I don't have a typical Polish look, but have a typical Eastern European look.

Language / Polish language would look better written in Cyrillic Script? [212]

No, it would look better in Glagolithic, The first Slavic alphabet and in fact at one point used by the east, west and south Slavs. Saints Cyril did not invent and spread Cyrillic, it was Glagolithic. Cyrillic came latter on, actually I believe if Cyrillic was not invented all the Slavs would being using Glagolthic by now and I personally prefer the look of Glagolithic over Cyrillic.

News / Poland and Kresy being reunited? [162]

Silesia is Polish, because Poles live there. And the Western Ukraine is Ukrainian, because Ukrainians live there. Period.

Interesting to bring up Jews...now lets use this logic and determine if the Jews followed it or not

News / Poland and Russia in military alliance - Is that even possible? At least temporary? [69]

and for those who knows history it
is clear that Poland is more western country then Germany

Really? that statement makes me believe you don't know Polish history. Are you referring to the times that Germans and Russians allied against Poles? because I am just confused. Look up Sarmatism.

those who knows history understand that are both- Germans and Poles, in general, of Sarmatian (read Serbian) origin and, that are Russians generally of the other Proto-Slavic branch- Scythians

Crow, Germans who are of Sarmatian origin (R1a) are most likely to be partial Polabians that weren't killed of when the German/Frankish people Invaded that region during the crusades. Polish people have highest percent of R1a of all Slavs, and this makes them (genetically speaking) a lot closer to Russia then Germany.

Back To Russia and Poland forming an alliance- If these countries ever go on board with each other Crows Slavic Union could be a reality- All you need is Poland, Russia and any South Slav country ( I think Bulgaria is more stable then Former Yugoslavia) and the rest will follow.

Problem is Poland would have to abandon its western ties which is a bad move, so I conclude that Poland and Russia can only ally with each other is if Poland would get attacked by a western country and Russia came to the defense of Poland instead of invading it from the other side.

News / Poland and Russia in military alliance - Is that even possible? At least temporary? [69]

I can see the hostility already- The inconvenient truth is that Poland does need Russian gas, If Poland is more willing to co-operate with the west (including GERMANY) over Russia- both of them committing there fair share of crimes- then the only way for Poland to side with Russia is if the west push an anti Polish agenda. Whats the deal with it being hard for Poles to get Visas for U.S.A?- we are in an alliance aren't we? wheres the missiles they promised...

News / Poland and Kresy being reunited? [162]

Its true that Germany will want western Poland and that is the problem. Lets look at Silesia (where most of my family currently live), Germans say it theirs but Silesia's are Slavic people are they not? Look at the history and you will see they were mostly part of Bohemia, not Germany. It was only part of Germany/Prussia when they took it through a war with Austria that incorporated it from Bohemia, now some can argue that Germanic tribes lived there before the Slavs, well most of them got incorporated into the culture or left with the migration of that period, not to mention that there was no established country in that area yet.

Poland and Russia? the two strongest Slavic nations working together, now this is a dream.... These two countries more often then not sided against each other. I don't see Poland coming to the aid of Russia, but if the E.U/NATO were to push anti Polish policies to take away Pomerania and Silesia from Poland, then I could see Russia siding with Poland. This is the only example for me that comes to mind.

News / Poland and Kresy being reunited? [162]

Now with the Ukrainian crisis their is a possibility. I am of ancestry to this area of Poland and would love to be able to live there. The problem is how to do it without hostile actions against Ukraine, Russia held referendum in Crimea because most people there are Russian, in Ukraine kresy most of these people were forced to leave or killed with most of there belonging being destroyed or robbed. I know this is an old thread but it is the future now and an opportunity is now present. Your thoughts?
