Life / School system in Poland? [59]

would very much like to send my children to Polish school and to learn Polish language and culture, but the fact remains that one of my daughter is already in 8th grade of an English Convent and it will not be easy for her to study all the subjects (Math, English, Geography, Arts, Chemistry, Physics etc) in Polish .

Poland is different to England in that they speak Polish, as Lukasz said, there are 'some' schools that teach lessons in English.

PLus she has to take her O' level (Cambridge )exam in next two years. I

You will have to see if Poland actually participate in the Cambridge O' Level, this is an international qualification and not to be mistaken with an English O' Level qualification.

I just had a thought that there must be some people like as migrating from Canada, US or UK to Poland under similar circumstances

They either send their children to schools that teach in Polish or pay for private education, families from the UK are usually in a Polish / English relationship and the move is one for life so therefore the children just go to normal state schools.

Usually in many countries there are English schools for children of foriegn officials living different countries for missions or so.

Again, foreign officials would send their child to a private school that teaches lessons in English, Poland is not for life and not their home.

Life / Getting ripped off in Poland! Is it normal? or should it be tolerated? [97]

if I paid the price on the menu then all is good :) I actually felt more ripped off last time I was in Spain with the way prices have gone.

How is it unfair if it is my experience? Been talking to filios? he likes to tell you what you can think....I thought you were better than that ;)

He does bloody not tell me what to think, maybe my wording was unjust, I sould have said "in my experience" but I've only ever been a tourist, I would expect things are totally different when living in a country.

Do any good English School exist in this area

They will be private schools, you are after all going to Poland where the national lang is Polish why on earth would they do lessons in English? You will either have to send your child to a local school where lessons are in Polish or you will have to pay for private education which will be taught in English.

I understand that private schools are very expensive.

Life / Getting ripped off in Poland! Is it normal? or should it be tolerated? [97]

I am saying in my experiences the 'east' has a higher discrepancy usually.

That's unfair, I've travelled round Czech rep and visited Hungary and been to Poland a few times and never been ripped off, maybe prices of drinks in tourist areas were more expensive but it's easy enough to get away from the crowds and find a bar that's cheap and slightly less crowded :)

Work / Average monthly salary in Poland is around 1000 PLN (few hundred bucks). [387]

Today, 08:26 Report #78

It will be interesting to see how the prices go (up) once the euro is introduced in Poland.

I dont think interesting is the word, my parents spend a large proporition of year in Cyprus and they got it earlier on in the year and prices have absolutely rocketed! :(

Life / Cost of converting cars in Poland to left-hand drive [58]

Get in touch with the AA they will probably be able to recommend a good garage that can do this in your area. It's probably more common these days as so many people are passing through and purchasing cars in the UK to take back home.

Life / Famous / Iconic Polish Women [43]

Thanks guys, it's amazing the achivements of these women..something to be celebrated. :)

How much more iconic can one be?

Probably some peoples idea of "iconic" is quite different! She goes down in history for great achievments and i dont personally think you can get more Iconic than that :)

could people elaborate a little on the person they are writing about, the whole idea of the thread was so I could learn about little bit about women who helped to shape Poland or contributed to it's history.

I'd prefer it if people wrote something rather than adding links, it's creates a more interesting thread.

But thanks for starting the ball rolling.

dnz is originally from the UK so in comparison it is a lot cheaper, that's if you're earning a good wage...if not, prices keep rising and certain people get poorer and poorer.

I would say Poland (food prices) are reasonable, but it's not like you're going to get a weekly luxury shop for £10 - people seem to have this premisconception that Poland is dirty cheap and you can live on a pittence - it's simply not true.

The first time I went to the Czech republic I paid 30p for a pint of beer and £2.50 for a steak dinner (including coffee :))) - those times are well and truely gone! Exchange rates are bad in EU has expanded......

History / Battle of Grunwald 1410 The biggest medieval battle. Germans smashed. [174]

Its just 1410!!!!! WOW thats going a bit over the top, lol.

Battle of Hastings interests me and that was 1066 :)

sorry for taking it a bit off topic, just wanted to point out to Torny that there are no time lines where history is concerned.

Love / Polish Women Versus Your Local Women ? [289]

I think this thread is unfair, to pit women against women - I would like ADMIN to remove it, it is degrading towards women!!!!

Do any of the other female forum members think so?

ok...ok...you're off the hook.....too soft by half me!

I takes a real man to apologise Mrs E, so this time he is forgiven.

May I ask a question? I'll assume your answer is yes, so i shall proceed.

Why do you think British women behave the way they do? Do you think that British men are perfect? You mention about our problem with teenage pregnancies - do you think it's imaculate conception or could it be that some grubby little 15 year old boy is playing his part too, but lucky for him he can scarper after the happy event has been announced?

Do you think that only British women drink copious amounts of a weekend? If so why were the marjority of arrests in holiday resorts British men who were too drunk to behave themselves? When I say behave I mean not only stupid druken behaviour, but also violence and sexual assults.

silobreaker.com/DocumentReader.aspx?Item=5_890272784

Do you think British women changed to cope with how British men behave? Or are British men still the same and British women have moved on?

I wouldn't dream of slaggin of British men because I know men come in all shapes and sizes, some good and some not so good.

Lets not forget the briefcase and a copy of Stage...that way he has all bases covered :)

x-- only 1 point was frm me on that list

Yeah, whatever...you obviously don't know a great deal about surregacy because it's not a simple case of some bloke popping to a ivf clinic and depositing some sperm and it's also derogatory to refer to your birth mother a "host" And by the way, gay men don't spend their lives slagging off women!

Actually you wrote:

for real, u also forgot abt their drinking and smoking habits..

Which means you agreed with all of what was written.

UK, Ireland / A collection of noimmigration's threads or "STAY AWAY from BRITAIN" [978]

I would hope a bit of both, but it is true that we cannot sustained the influx of migrants from none EU countries, we have more than enough labour both professional and none professional from within the EU to cover our needs.

The NHS has changed it's recruitment policy and they were one of the largest recruiters from outside of the EU, things change and the population of the UK has changed to a degree we no longer need to source from outside of the EU.
