Off-Topic / After spending another 3-months in Europe [5]

Central Europe is the pinnacle of life right now. It's expanding, improving and yet free and relatively cheap.

Life in Berlin is sometimes a blur

I can't even begin to grasp this city. Thousands of bars, hundreds of parks & museums. Sometimes I get lost and wake up not knowing where or who I am. I meet people and exchange wunderbar stories, I start to challenge all that I previously viewed as important.

Berlin, where you can do anything & everything, whenever and with whom ever. And yet it is all safe, all the time. Being lost and finding myself is at times the most rewarding part. This is my 3rd time visiting in 7 years and I am helplessly in love with this "city". I hope I will one day, sooner than later call you mine.

Life / Expat, immigrant, foreigner. Not all foreigners in Poland are expats. [84]

I am in Wroclaw for vacation. What a beautiful Polish city. Almost no foreigners or outsiders here. Almost everyone speaking Polish. People greeting each other with ''Good Day'' and respect is rampant. It's crazy what a city where people are the same and think the same feels.

Love / english girl struggling with polish boyfriend's friends [20]

If they speak English to you, you will never learn Polish . . . . .

I'm willing to bet one of the main reasons they enjoy spending time together is the opportunity to speak their native tongue. Speaking English defeats that whole purpose. The sad truth is that you will have to learn Polish to fit in his life. This is an issue with every relationship involving more than 1 language

USA, Canada / General differences between Poland and the USA? [184]

How hard would it be to visit Poland in you don't speak the language do most people speak English??

Poland recently hosted (with Ukraine) the European Tournament in Soccer. Heavy emphasis was made on tourism, i.e. English speaking workers. Poland has made great strives in this department the past 10-20 years. But the farther you travel from the cities, the less often this is the case. In the villages you will find it very difficult.

History / How different would WW2 turned out if Poland accepted Hitler's offer [215]

Hitler attacked the wrong side of Europe. He should have gone all out and the wipe the British out.

Hitler spared British forces numerous times in battle. In the end he wanted Britain (white brother) to join him.

Ultimately Poland was the domino. If Poles accept Hitler's offer, England/France/USA don't come to the rescue of Soviet and/or Jews. Hitler creates an empire in Central & Eastern/Soviet Europe.

News / Negative Polish stereotypes in US 'changing for the better' [20]

Because unless you are wealthy, you have a higher quality of life in Europe. My sister left the USA a few years ago, I plan on doing the same after my studies are finished. My parents are immigrating back to Europe after retirement in a few years.

USA will be a brown country in 15 years. If you are white: Canada, Australia and within Europe is a lot better place to move. My parents greatly regret immigrating to the USA with us.

Life / Why are Polish so obsessed with Russia [46]

Well, maybe in a way Poles still think in the spirit of 89' peace revolutions and looks at Russian state as a counter-revolutionary state...

Very interesting read. But ultimately what percentage of Russians back Putin? When I look at modern day Russia I see immense new wealth at the top and ''strong directional leadership'' but a rotting society underneath. Maybe as Poles (centuries removed from the Commonwealth) we will never be able to comprehend the ''Empire'' mindset ingrained in Russian culture. It is hard to argue that it's not for global show, at the expense of their own people. Russia is hosting the Olympics and World Cup in the next decade, while none of us would choose to live there.

Life / Why are Polish so obsessed with Russia [46]

- You've met every single Pole living in the USA and quizzed them on their feelings about Russia?

- You seem to be the only ''Pole'' on here obsessing over the matter

- Russian fans beat up Polish stewards a week before the Poland/Russian match. Their fans also had inappropriate signs and wore military uniforms (WTF) to matches. Which is why FIFA penalized Russia and not Poland.

Typical Russian cowardliness thuggery.

- What was occurring in Poland while Russia put Sputnik in space? We were under Soviet rule. You should pick up a history book sometime.

If Poland is so backwards then why do you as a Russian feel the need to come on a Polish forum and describe ignorant American opinions? Americans look down on all of us, they laugh at Russia murdering tens of millions of their own citizens. You live in San Jose. I live in San Diego. So there's one Pole that accomplished more than a Russian.

On the subject of Russia.
*The average Russian man has a life expectancy of 58 years, which is among the shortest in the civilized world.

* The Russian population is down to 142 million. In 1991 it was 148 million. It is expected to decrease by 1/3 by 2050, down to 96 million.

* The birth rate in Russia (The number of children born to the average woman) remains below 2.0, which is the 'breakeven' point.

* The Russian death rate is 14.3 per 100,000. Compares to 8.5 for the USA.

There may be an occasional young woman kidnapped from Ukraine and dragged into Russia, but that would be the extent to any immigration problem.

Life / Why are Polish so obsessed with Russia [46]

Russia is a big bully in the region. Just look at how they acted on Polish soil during Euro 2012 Tournament and that had nothing to do with Russian government. While Poles have their bad apples, Russians are known by everyone as obnoxious.

In terms of Poles/Russians living in the USA and their relations to each other. I don't think it's any different than Polish-German or Polish-British. Your post seems to argue Poles should go out of their way for Russians because we are both Slavs. I think in the USA it's wise to treat everyone on equal footing or you will lose out on opportunities. The ironic part is that us both being Slavs, almost creates a sense of competition: ''We both immigrated to this country and look who is better off''

We expect Americans to understand Polish history and respect us but we shouldn't expect the same from Russians, who is an actual neighbor? At the end of the day Russia doesn't want to be part of the European Union and almost considers itself it's own continent. So other than ethnicity, we don't share much any longer.

Love / My little confession hehe - I always thought polish women were ugly [57]

Few thoughts

- As is the case with most European girls, Polish girls are skinny but they also tend to have breast and curves. IMO (and many Americans agree) Eastern European girls are the hottest whites. German & British (especially) do not compare.

- American men are infatuated with blonde hair. Alot of it has to do with the fact the USA is only 50% white and opposites attract. So they love them some blonde hair.

You think the USA comes to the rescue of the Soviets?

With Russia under his control and every country in the region except France. There is no point of Hitler going into West Europe. I think he stops at controlling the entire Central/East.
