Life / Why are Polish so obsessed with Russia [46]

Albert, why do you mistakenly write names of some nationalities? Polish dislike Russians more, perhaps because of our media and historical rhetoric. People can be controlled by that. Also contrary to post soviet countries we were less brainwashed by soviet propaganda. We also don't speak Russian and don't go work to Russia. And simply because Russia is currently only country which could endanger independence of Poland. (but that's is true also for other Russian neighbors)

Albert, you didn't understand what I wrote. You lie that you're Polish, and you write whatever is on your mind, so it's hard to read it.

Life / Bribery and corruption 'fact of life' in Poland? [152]

I have hard that specialist doctors working in public hospitals offer shorter waiting queue, when patient pays for 5min consultation in private clinic where they usually "work" in the evenings or weekends.

Life / Moving from India to Wroclaw [53]

1) General information about the prices you can get from here: numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1= India&city1=Mumbai&country2=Poland&city2=Wroclaw&displayCurrency= EUR

Prices of public transport tickets: wroclaw.pl/files/bilety,biletomaty/cennik%20od%201052012.pdf
- 90 days ticket for all lines: 240PLN
- 30 days for 2 chosen lines: 90PLN

Internet for example in this company: netia.pl/oferta-dom/internet/internet-max-20.html
- 30zł / month 1Mbit/s
- 40zł - 4Mbit/s
- 50zł - 20Mbit/s
(prices when signing 2 years contract. To the price add ~30zł phone line fee)

512kbit/s mobile internet is free in Poland. aero2.pl/bdi.html

2) From India you can book appartment through [airbnb.com or 9flats.com and when here you can rent something long term cheaper. This website has biggest number of private advertisements: gumtree.pl/fp-dom-mieszkanie-do-wynajecia/dolnoslaskie -wroclaw/c9008l3200007

3) I don't remember any Indian channels on 2 the most popular satellites in Poland (HotBirt and Astra 2), but take a look on this list. If you see there any satellite with Indian channels then you can receive it. But payed Indian tv is not offered in Poland, perhaps it is in UK. Then you could buy decoder in UK and watch in Poland.

digitalsat.co.uk/whichsatellite.html[/url] Maybe it would be simpler to pay for TV online

Maybe this post will interest you: https://polishforums.com/life-7/new-poland-bydgoszcz-cost-living-65488/. Here it's about Bydgoszcz. Wrocław has higher rent prices. And use search option, because similar questions were asked before in this forum.

No misunderstanding. I wrote that Wrocław has around the same prices like Bydgoszcz, except of rent prices and salaries (both little higher), so many prices you read in that topic about Bydgoszcz are valid for Wrocław also. Take a look at google map to see that there are houses around this kindergarden. Btw. how much does it cost? I expect to be much more expensive than kindergarden with polish staff.

Work / Coming to Krakow to study, how can I find a Polish family to host me ? [2]

Who told you that? I think that it's impossible. I've only heard about some older lonely people subletting room in their flat in exchange for help with shopping and lower than market price. Actually if you have chance go for dormitory, because they're cheaper than renting something on the free market.

Australia / Partner Visa Australia [3]

there was article on wykop.pl that many people go to work in Australia on fake student visa. There are some fake schools which for a fee give you paper that you're student, so you can live in Australia and work 20h per week legally.

Work / Why companies in Poland don't answer back sent work applications? [2]

In Poland there was always (since Russians have left) employer market, so companies didn't have to care for good appearance in order to still get hundreds of applications. Thus answer to inquiry is in their eyes something excessive.

Work / Salary 'under the table' in Poland? [15]

Banks have various policies regarding Credit Cards, In the past Polbank offered me one without asking for job prove, only because of my transaction history in the account. Search for it in the Internet or ask in banks. Or as here was suggested go without it and stay with your Debit Card. I don't know where in Polish online shopping credit card would have advantage over debit. Usually it's other way, because credit card transaction costs shops more.

USA, Canada / General differences between Poland and the USA? [184]

You will always find somebody speaking English, but many times you will have to search. All people younger than 30 know some English, but minority speaks fluently. Most of older don't know even basics, because they were learning Russian in school. Also knowledge of English is higher in bigger cities, because there is higher proportion of younger and longer educated people. So to answer your question. No most people don't speak English. Wikipedia says 28%

Life / Bribery and corruption 'fact of life' in Poland? [152]

Which is why working privately should be banned for those on full time contracts in the public health system.

Same way they forbade professors to be employed in more than 2 universities/colleges. So they work in other as a company.

Is not that a global problem ? Do you think Poles invented it ?

I don't know answer to your questions.

when working in Poland for a company registered in Poland for more than half year, then you're not consider foreign worker from tax point of view. Otherwise read agreement with your country.

Net salary you can calculate with: money.pl/podatki/kalkulatory/plac/

Write gross salary to "Wysokość wynagrodzenia", click "Dodaj do miesiecy", click "Oblicz"

Law / Visa interview next month and I was rejected before; Accepted at the Jagiellonian university [13]

You can say that you want to study in Eastern Europe, because you're not poor, but not extremely reach, and cost of living in Poland is a lot of cheaper than in Western Europe and Jagielonian Univeristy is the best in the country according to international rankings. Actually it's good for the application that it's Jagiellonian and not any other.

but you wrote it yourself: "Master Card and Visa rocks :D :D. "
I think Visa is less popular in USA than Mastercard and in Europe opposite.

Study / Inexpensive study in Warsaw for international student [8]

I think that here you have 90% of courses taught in English [study in poland /en/]

There is no such thing as international student. From which country do you come from? EU citizens have discounts in Poland. In Germany studies are free or just 1000 euro per year and cost of living in Berlin not much higher than in Warsaw, so you may want to check it out.

"There is - it's a common term applied to non-EU citizens." - then the person who invented it was lacking better ideas.

"EU citizens pay the same as Poles." - this is another way to say what I said.

"really? but i saw and compared that their fees for the Non- Eu students per semester are much less than compared to other universities in Warsaw.. and if not then which university i should choose ? iam really confused i don't find options :("

- where is the problem? you know ranking places, you now prices.

History / Alexander the Great - Macedonski. Poland connection? [254]

from polish wikipedia:

"Aleksander III Macedoński (stgr. Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Τρίτος ὁ Μακεδών Aleksandros ho Tritos ho Makedon) zwany też Aleksandrem Wielkim (Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Μέγας Aleksandros ho Megas) i niezwyciężonym (άνίχητος); ur. 19-20 lipca 356 p.n.e"

So (stgr. Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Τρίτος ὁ Μακεδών Aleksandros ho Tritos ho Makedon), Aleksander III Macedoński is his other name. Perhaps the second one Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Μέγας is now more popular for some reasons, but in Poland 1st name is more popular.

People now shouldn't mistake Macedonia with the country Republic of Macedonia, which usurps heritage of Ancient Macedonia (although they speak different language and are Slavic people which came to that region after the time of Alexander the Great).

"that it's not about the modern country named Macedonia, but the greek kingdom of Macedonia." As little as I remember about teaching of that part of history, they were saying that he was Greek and not many children in Poland even know where Republic of Macedonia is, to mistake that the ancient Greek hero would come from other country than Greece.

History / Alexander the Great - Macedonski. Poland connection? [254]

"the guys who started "rioting"" had more time to forget what they taught him in primary school and because of European Studies he has heard about the existence of Republic of Macedonia. Combined name Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Τρίτος ὁ Μακεδών with Republic of Macedonia and this is how mistake occurred. If he has read official history of Republic of Macedonia then he could even read from them that Alexander the Great came from Republic of Macedonia.

I think that's why Greeks are fighting with Macedonians about their country name. To stop such mistakes.

And actually who knows what they teach children now. It could change a lot since my time. You could go to an library and check yourself. Although EU is not influencing content of text books right now, Greece is EU country and FYROM not, so perhaps Greek version is still in our books :)

Travel / A four days vacation, where to go in Poland? [39]

If you like hiking/biking then Jura Krakowsko Czestochowska is very nice.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jura_Krakowsko-Cz%C4%99stochowska

bing.com/images/search?q=jura+krakowsko+cz%C4%99stochowska+galeria&qpvt=jura+krakowsko+cz%C4%99stochowska+galeria&FORM=IGRE

but I don't know about romantic :)
You could say where you live now and weather you want a place on the other side of Poland or rather closer.

In order to blend into crowd your girlfriend could cut hair short and wear baseball cap to hide it. Traditionally only old women have hidden hair in a cloth. For an young women it doesn't feet well. You shouldn't expect any troubles in Jura.
