Life / Was Legionella in Poland a biological weapon attack? [21]

why in a Vietnamese shopping center?

There was presumably some factor about it, perhaps a way of disabling the sprinklers or simply that there was an easy way of staring a fire that could spread well.

southern thing

Not only. It crops up in a few dialects.

The second one there are stretches that I don't understand at all

It's not the easiest accent. Around Knottingley (pronounced Notla) where she's from the accent is especially strong as it often is in (ex) coal minIng places. It's still thee and tha territory. She's making an effort to sound 'ultra-local' though.

There's quite a lot of post-2004 Poles in the small towns around there. Maybe that will have some influence in the future, maybe not. I met a 20 year old woman who moved near there from Poland as a kid and she had a strong local accent. She asked if I was Polish (I was speaking English) but I guess that most of the people she hears around there sound very local and I don't any more.

The bit after 0.44 is about winning goldfish (at a carnival) and eating them for dares. I stumbled at about 0.51, something about "our nasal accent suiting them (southerners).

Too late to edit. The thing about the nasal tones is that it suits the phrase 'our kid' (a younger brother/sister).

the world.

"The world" didn't watch it and most people in the world had certainly never heard of Ed Sullivan.

Even in your country they were met by thousands of screaming fans at the airport, prior to them being on that TV show.

Genealogy / Looking for ANNA MARIA. MISIUREWICZ - P J PROBY the American/British singer [11]

Just an idea.

Although it would be really unusual for someone in the U.K. to be at the same address or have a relative at that address 50 years later (or for a 21 year old student to be living at home) it's not that unusual at all in Poland.

Why not write to that address? If she's not there now, there's still a chance that a relative lives there or is the owner,

I had a look on Facebook and there are several people with that surname in Łódź.

Just a possibility.

Tosh. They were on that TV show because they were already a sensation.

I do not expect her to be in the same house in Poland

You'd be surprised. Many people in Poland inherit a flat from parents or grandparents and stay there. People don't move house as much as in Western Europe and even if they do, they don't always sell; instead they rent it out or have a family member living there. My neighbours' family have been at the same address since 1937. It might be worth a try.

could be her then

Although that doesn't give whereabouts, it does at least suggest that she's still alive, which is good news.

I wish you luck in finding her.

I've found an address for a lady with that surname and the first names Anna Maria. The husband has the same name as the man listed as husband on the website Paulina posted and has the same year of birth.

Because it's a home address, I'll not list it here but will send by private message. You'll get something in red at the top left of the main page here and will need to click on "Mail".

BTW, it looks like a nice big house in a good area.

posting a list of these "radical Islamists taking political offices all over the country

I'd be quite interested in seeing it and I'm sure MI5 would be very interested.

Perhaps he thinks all Muslims are Islamists.

My local Tory councillor is a Muslim however I'm pretty sure that his main shortcoming is being a Tory rather than anything else. He's certainly not an Islamist or didn't seem to be when we were chatting about jazz music at the cricket club.

The West Country accent

They sailed from Plymouth (near the West Country) to Plymouth Rock. Many also came from eastern England, especially East Anglia which was very rich at that time due to the wool industry, was relatively densely populated and was very very Protestant.

and can be useful sometimes.

Even very. I'd not expect auto-generated subtitles to handle her accent very well though; they're bad enough with Corrie and Emmerdale.
