Love / Are Polish men handsome to you? [182]

On average, when you walk down the streets of Polish cities, towns and villages do you see many men who catch an eye of yours?

My wife finds them very handsome ;)

News / Lustration in Poland: Should Polish ex- SB officers get big rents? [42]

What's the worse that's happened to Jaruzelski

he's dying of cancer

Should we still care for what happened n 1981/1970?

yes we should care
I've always maintained that Poland would do very well by following in South Africa's footsteps
by creating its own "truth and reconciliation commission"
air out all the dirty laundry; remove all the skeletons from all the closets.
and then forgive and get on with modern life
Poland and Poles need to exorcise these demons now and be done with it for good.
(one long, big purge would be good for the country's soul)

Language / Fun with Polish ambiguous language [62]

But I know this from the dictionary, I've never heard it used like that. Must be regional, as Poles in general usually say "ćwok":

quite right
he was from Świerklany na Śląsku (upper silesia)

Ćmok" which is a word similar to "ćma" can mean something like "ciemno/ciemność/noc/zmierzch". Or "po ćmoku" - "po ciemku" (in the dark). Here it probably means "after dark":

OMG Paulina! Did you bring back a flood of childhood memories!
Interestingly, my father used ćmok as a pejorative term as in "co za ćmok" - what a dope/fool

News / Predictions about Poland for 2013 [85]

.......indeed there are plans afoot that will see Zabrze become the gay capital of Central Europe, much like San Francisco is in Western USA but with more coalmines.

Really???

Life / sweet words to use in Poland with shopkeepers [14]

Normal people usually only say "Dzień dobry (Good day)", but as being already said - this is not so common in Poland

Is this true???
Has it really gotten like that?
Back in the day it was omnipresent, the "Dzien dobry" and "Dowidzenia" spoken in shops.

it is for the benefit of perverted gynaecologists who want to control the dangerous vagina

Life / News on driving in Poland [54]

What happened to freedom?

really Kondzior?
what about the freedom to drive your car without fear of a drunk driver driving into you?
why should my safety be subjugated by your "freedom" to drive while intoxicated??
come on now

If they want to share roads with other drivers and pedestrians, both of those groups have a right to be sure that all drivers are sober, clearly visible, not holding a telephone and driving within the speed limit.

yes
agreed

So because you cannot hold your liquor, no one is allowed?

No
Because ethanol impairs one reflexes, judgement and spatial orientation.
There are no "functional alcoholic drivers"!
Just very, very lucky ones.

We drove to the seaside in it, 4 people plus luggage. World record.

quite an intimate experience like mine: 4 guys, all taller than 5'10", packed with stuff from Berlin stores.
What a ride!
(the East Germans had no sense of humor)

and all those 2 cycle puht-puht engines spewing that god-awful blue exhaust fume into the air!
I still have that smell etched in my olfactory memory.
(Kraków was especially brutal in that regard)

(I still remember our shock when mother brought foiled milk home

your shock more than likely stemmed from the fact that the bag was leaking!
As was my experience more than 50% of the time.
Simply put, they were a big pain in the butt (not to mention having to have a dedicated milk container at home to pour the blasted milk into from the bag).

As far as taste goes, I prefered the glass (as I do my beer;)
