Life / Have many Poles had enough of one another? [198]

Interesting topic. I lived and worked in Poland for a few years and could never get used to the negative energy. I'm not surprised though. Most Poles have poor paying jobs and are just getting by in life with very basic things. They know life is better elsewhere and this only adds to their misery.

Jealousy is another thing I noticed in Poland. Many people are jealous and when someone has something that their neighbour/whoever doesn't have they tend to point it out in such a manner that creates jealousy.

Oh well you can find something strange in every country. Ie. Asians don't show emotions

Law / How do you get your Polish passport if you live in Poland? [17]

Save yourself the hassle and travel into Poland on a Polish document.

Delph, you're right about this law, however it is not enforced.

I sometimes show my PL passport in Poland, other times (ie when returning to canada) I show my canadian passport. If i've been in Poland for longer than 3 months, they always ask to see both of my passports. I've even asked several customs officials about this...

They've got more important things to do.

My Polish passport is 25 years old from before PESEL times and I do not have 'dowod osobisty'.

If you were born in Poland, just go to an urzad miasta (if in Poland) and they'll get one for you.

Love / Why do so many Polish girls dye their hair BLACK? [124]

Polish women don't look good with dyed black hair.

I sometimes think they are trying to look more mediterranean. Unfortunately it's not working out for them. They need to have darker skin to look good with black hair. Sorry ladies.

News / HIV infected Nigerian has bitten bus ticket's controler in Cracow! [56]

Mind you, given the attitude of ticket controllers in Poland, perhaps it was well deserved.

To be fair, they have to put up with a lot of crap. I saw many punks give these ticket controllers a hard time. When you're asked for your ticket, show the fcuking thing and don't talk back. Simple as that. The negro probably thought he could get away without paying. I hope he goes to prison for his animalistic and dangerous behaviour.

Too bad Poland is letting more of these idiots into the country, pretty soon the country will resemble the US/UK.

USA, Canada / My story. Born In the USA - do I have a chance in Poland, my Mother Country? [69]

California and New york are the only livable places in the US in your opinion? You must be a moron if you think that.

KKK? What the hell are you talking about?

Discrimination against polish-americans? Few poles complain about this, i wonder what you did/do to attract this negative attention.

You sound like a strange person, OP.

I lived in Poland for a few years recently and i have to tell you from first hand experience, life is better in the US/Canada.

Travel / Whats your favourite Polish city and why? [132]

My vote goes to Wroclaw.

I was born there and lived/worked there for a few years recently. I only wish that Wroclaw (and the rest of Poland) was better maintained and kept cleaner looking. The stare miasto is nice but once you leave it there are many, many areas that look run down. For instance, srodmiescie has so much potential yet it is dirty/grey in appearance. Some of the cobblestone roads haven't been touched since the Breslau days (some roads were hastily patched up after the war) and the building facades are in desperate need of some renovations. Nevertheless, i love this city.

News / Andrzej Lepper committed suicide [98]

I briefly spoke with a friend from Poland about lepper. He told me that lepper was in serious debt. Apparently he bought some kind of farm and a house. The mortgage was in some foreign currency but recently the value of that currency vs the zloty did not go in his favour. Now i guess his wife has to deal with this, quite a cowardly move. RIP, anyway.

History / Warsaw Rising 1944 - National Disaster or Triumph of Spirit ? [395]

If Poland simply waited for the inevitable German vs Soviet fight to the end - she could have waited and waited until the Soviet overstretched their supply lines in the race for Berlin...

Is this a serious idea? It sounds insane to me.

Love / Is the Polish wife the boss? [33]

Is the Polish wife the boss?

In my experience and observations while living in Poland, I wouldn't say that Polish women are the "boss." They are however a little more troublesome for a man than american/canadian women.

USA, Canada / Polish-American mutilation of the Polish language [75]

Another thread by the one forumer obsessed with attempting to insult the Polish diaspora.

Polish-Americans have mutilated the pure, beautifully poetic Polish language

lol You can't even speak/read Polish, even though you've been in poland for a couple of years now. Are you jealous that a yankie of Polish descent you has probably never been to Poland can speak better Polish than a limey who has been living in Poland for a couple of years?

Rather disgraceful, if you ask me. Language should be respected, not mutilated.

I agree. Those Scots should learn to speak English the proper way instead of sounding like a bum begging for money.

Seriously though, languages change as populations spread you idiot! What are you going to do next, complain about the German language in Germany vs Austria vs Switzerland? Maybe Canada vs USA vs UK vs Aus vs Ireland vs NZ vs SA? French in quebec vs France vs Africa?

What a disrespectful world we live in!

You're a joke delphi.

Food / Pancakes with cottage cheese? [40]

Pancakes with cottage cheese?

My family in Poland eats crepes with cottage cheese. Delicious!!!

I think there is a difference between pancakes and crepes.... Aren't crepes much thinner and nastier:)?

UK, Ireland / Is UK the new cradle of antipolonism? [161]

The largest anti-polonism i've heard was from the jewish/israeli expat community. Many have not lived among or met Poles, yet are fiercely hateful of Poles and anything Polish. They teach this hate from generation to generation. It's really shocking.

Life / Stereotypes about Polish people being stupid? [281]

These stereotypes about poles being dumb originated back in the late 1700s and Early 1800s when poles began migrating to the US. Most of these Poles were uneducated peasants who couldn't read or write in Polish. When they were asked to write down their names for US officials and couldn't, Americans began to think that all Poles were "dumb."

keep in mind, many ethnc groups were ridiculed in the US at one point or another. Such jokes always originated amongst Americans of English descent and the majority were directed at catholic groups (ie poles, irish).

Love / Married in Poland, now wanting divorce, does she have rights to half my earnings? [67]

Get this settled OP, use that link with the free lawyers for a start.

Then, the hell out of Poland. You're wasting your time there. And the women are not as great as all these foreigners make them out to be. Capitalism has spoiled them rotten.

What did u do for a living in Poland before u became unemployed??

Love / Polish dating tips [40]

you may want to explain "ice cream" in more detail to avoid any problems on the first date...;)

Language / Need advice on how to improve Polish language skills [134]

You're over analyzing the polish language. All this focus on the technicalities ofthe language are confusing you (and me!!).

Many years ago when I was learning French I started by doing what you're doing - grammar. I felt like i wasn't getting anywhere so I switched over to conversation classes. Then I really started learning the language. Try it.

UK, Ireland / Are Poles in UK really that big of a deal? [112]

The reason why brits can complain about poles is simple: You can't be racist when complaining about white immigrants. Now if yu start criticising Somali, paki etc immigrants then you risk being labelled a racist.

History / Poland's biggest historical blunder? [341]

Despite repeated attempts by Poles to claim otherwise, the absence of Polish representatives from the 1946 London Victory parade was entirely due to Polish decisions: Poles from both sides (western command and Polish government) were invited and both groups refused to attend.

They asked the communist puppet government in Poland to attend victory celebrations. This government was not repressentative of the people.

Ah, the classical approach to Polish history: blame the British and/or the Jews for everything, what a refreshing change.

You have to admit that the British are history's biggest butchers.
