UK, Ireland / Help Renouncing UK Citizenship and gaining Polish one [24]

They have a new law, that even if you succesfully give up the US citizenship, you still are subject to taxation for next 10 years.

The "new" law isn't really new, it's been renewed and many countries have it - It's not about you paying US taxes for 10 more years - that's nonsense - it's about them bring able to keep your records for 10 years after you move - they're desperately trying to fight tax evasion, that's all.

...but to answer you question, yes, really. For example until recently Fedex pilots had an option to be "based" in Subic Bay (Manila), Philippines (the domicile just closed and moved to Hong Kong instead). Anyways, each and everyone of them claimed the overseas living exemption. The article is a few years old, I think it's $86,000 now?

Also, there are some other ways. I know of several United pilots who fly out if Dulles, VA but live and pay taxes in Sweden. All legal and with IRS's approval - their wives are Swedish, have extended families and they all chose to live in Sweden. I talked to one of them who said his taxes are much higher now, his commute to work is looong but his wife won't budge (she especially hates Virgina/Washington, DC area - can't blame her there... He said he'll keep commuting for a few more years but then it's "his" turn to decide where they'll live. Yeah, right... ;)

Life / Womans day in Poland? [242]

I think his point was how it's used as a weapon or an incentive by women and that pisses a lot of men off. It should be a 50/50 deal and not a "privilege" to be metted out when a woman wants or needs something.

I think maybe this has been taken out of proportion somewhat. I think Ms. J simply states the obvious "fact" that most men are very visual, more so than women and in general have a stronger sex drive, or at least we're more open about it. When women suffer from low libido the treatment often includes doses of testosterone - something we men are overflowing with.

...and yes, they do have more assets because again, we men in general are more visual which plays to their advantage. This is a great generalization of course but I think it is a 50-50 "deal" - we just show it in different ways...

But if a guy tried that women would laugh and say they can get it anywhere.

...so is it women's fault or do we have ourselves to blame for it? After all the reason they "can get it anywhere" is us, men isn't it?

PS. In the name of our discussion I'd love to see Justysia in those stockings and suspenders - just for our debate's sake of course. LOL

History / The Gustloff - one of the worst maritime disasters that seemed to never have happened [66]

This ship was equipped with anti-aircraft weapons and in depth-mines. Among civilian passengers she carried also soldiers (mostly from eastern front). According to international law of war - Carl Gustloff can not be consider as a ship on the civilian or humanitarian mission. That was a German's mistake. Sorry - but that is true.

Not that Germany or Soviet followed any international conventions but that's correct.

Thanks to Herr goebels the German people had been filled with horror stories of what the Russians would do if they got on German soil , this was done to make them fight harder , but for the civilians it just caused mass panic when the Russians got near , and those that could flee , did so...If anyone is to blame for the huge loss of life , its mr Goebels..

Well, if you're going to go that far one could argue that Goebels saved many lives by warning the German population on what the Russians would do - reality more often than not proved worst than what the Germans feared. Not defending Germans by no means but there are many Polish survivers who recalls the German occupation with "fondness" (BIG sarcasm smiley if I had one!) at least when compared to what they endured when their Slavic-brother thugs "freed" them...

USA, Canada / Dual citizenship - US doesn't care if you don't give up Polish passport [103]

My mother thinks that the only thing I can count on in my old age will be social security.

She's probably right. Of course, by then you'll have to retire at 85 or later to claim it... ;)

On the other hand, do the countries you 'renounce' really care? I wonder if there are any legal precendeces (except for the old case I quoted) where the dissed country uses that against the disser?

The only time this would really matter is if you're in another country (vacation?) and somehow get in trouble. There have been cases where a person supposedly spied on someone or stole something and then if the person had two passports the local government kept playing the two governments against each other. In other words they'd say they do not accept the American embassy representing the suspect since he was an Italian citizen. Then they'd say the same to the Italian embassy representative. I remember reading something similar in the mid 90s and it was an Asian country that was causing trouble. Don't remember how it all ended but I'm sure well or it'd be all over the news back then...

However, those are very unusual cases and I'd say 99.9% of cases are very simple where both embassies usually work together on helping one of their own...

Be proud of your Polish roots, but be prouder still to be in the human race

Very well said!

Bratwurst Boy "luvs" Softsong

How about me, huh???

As far as jokes, in Sweden many of our jokes were about Norwegians (ok, pretty much ALL of them!) and some were about Finns. In Norway it's all reversed, the very same jokes but now about Swedes. In New York I hear a lot of jokes about Canadians. Chicagoans probably joke about Poles a lot - there are lot of Poles living there... Many yankees (northerners) joke about Southerners and vice versa (note which group I capitalized LOL). Some jokes are funny, some are vulgar, sexist, some are rasist... However, I don't see an anti-Polish joke conspiracy anywhere...

Do you have an idea what the Russians did to the German populations in the conquered towns in East Prussia???

Agree. The only difference between Germany and the Soviets is that Germany "paid the price" after the war for the many attricities they committed. Not so with Russians who were just as brutal if not more to populations they occupied. It's true they killed "their own" too but that's not an excuse to rape and pillage Lithuanuans, Estonians, Latvians, Poles, Ukrainians, Slovaks, Hungerians, etc., etc.

Love / What do Asian boys think about Polish girls? :) (and vice versa) [150]

Can we go back to the topic of this thread please?

Are there any Korean/Japanese/Chinese/Thai etc men who find Polish women attractive or date them? What do you think about us?

Not sure if this will count but my PA (physician assistant - whenever I go to a doctor) has Polish heritage (I think she was a little girl when they moved to the US) and she married a Japanese man (he's lived in the States for about 10 years). They are exactly the same hight, she's blond, he's dark brown or black maybe, both very well educated, inteligent and they seem to be very much in love. I'm a runner and I see them on the trails all the time; they are a great looking couple. Their kids are gorgeous too...

As for rapes in Poland it wasnt that bad, women had to be watched of course and avoid larger groups but rule of a thumb was that russian troops got a bullet for raping non-German locals in Poland.

What the he'll are you talking about? Would you stop with your Russian a@@kissing? What you said is total nonsense and the Russian soldiers had free reins on sex crimes - you find a lady - she's yours - was the mantra of the Russian commanders and thus the Russian thugs so called soldiers.

The problem is two-fold, one Germans really let loose in Russia and two, Russians are a partly asian culture given that their very foundations come from Mongols, they as a nation and society do not follow the same civilisational standards as central or western Europe.

Nonsensical rasist garbage. Soldiers mimic the leadership - bring on thug politbureau commanders and you get thug soldiers. This was not an occational rape or murder - this was a systematic and widely condoned by the superiors mass war crime.

Love / How do Polish boys feel about foreign girls? [163]

Well, you're welcome and thanks for accepting my reply even though I was pretty frank and direct...

I believe there is no such thing as "typical" Polish behavior - there might be "Polish looks", "Polish accent", etc. but other than that we're all different individuals.

In my view, the reason women always want to communicate and men always try to run away from it (I'm generalizing here) is because we really do speak different languages. A woman might think she's very clear on what's important to her but all we "hear" is a bunch of innuendos, tons of thoughts, many ideas, abundant amount of feelings, etc. It might as well have been hieroglyphs painted on our foreheads. Many men are logical by nature and feelings are NOT logical. Having a "technical" profession as I do only "heightens" the dose of logic in a relationship.

I had to see bunch of shrinks to realize what all the "signs" and "hidden messages" my ex-wife tried to share with me. I'm sad I didn't get it earlier and heartbroken that our marriage fell apart but we really do come from different planets, maybe even galaxies... All I and frankly all of us can do is to learn from our mistakes and hope for a brighter future.

So when in doubt - use plain English (Polish, Dutch, German, etc.) and don't move on to the next subject until you're 100% sure you're both on the same wavelength...

Strong tailwinds in your pursuit of happiness. :)

compared to say speaking against immigration with a Polish accent at a minute man pow-wow at the mexican border...

Well, since you brought it up - how come we in the US are more lenient toward illegal Mexicans jumping over the fence than citizens of an alied nation such as Poland? Why is it that the libs are so loud when it comes to supporting the illegals yet so quiet when it comes to helping our true friends?

I mention libs since you alluded to "right leaning news programs" - there are plenty of left leaning programs advocating on behalf of the illegals. Why is it so hard to get an agreement on work visas for our true allies such as Poland? Since you're so fired up over some "right leaning news programs" how do you explain this leftist overwhelmingly pro-Mexican movement 'favoring' one nation that aligned itself with Hitler in WWII yet the same leftists won't do a thing to help a nation that aligned itself with us in the last two, clearly unpopular wars?

Yo quiero imparcialidad - fairness here.

Off-Topic / To ALL IMMIGRANTS ("expats") to Poland on this forum... [124]

When it comes to both sides being idiots I agree 100%. They're idiots for different reasons but the effect is the same.

Mexicans being used as scapegoats - sure to a certain degree. However both the Mexican government and the Mexican public in general take the US for granted. They demand treatment from us that they do not offer to their own immigrants (from Guatemala, Colombia, etc.). Six months or so ago I heard on radio (pro-illegal alien discussion on NPR) that almost a quarter of prisoners in North Carolina are illegal aliens and they are not there for being illegal but for serious crimes: rape, theft, murder, etc.

It's about time we say no to those "scapegoats", send them home and invite legal workers from our allied nations. If they stay out of trouble and do a good job they should be allowed to stay if they so wish.

I've pointed out plenty of times that I don't agree with the VWP.

I'll have to show off my ignorance by admitting I'm not familar with the VWP acronym?

Regarding your point about supporting unpopular wars, keep in mind that the majority of people who would benefit from VWP didn't support either the wars or the missile defense shield.

I'll reply when I figure out what VWP is... ['embarrassed smiley' if I had one]

On a more serious note - MW you see everything in black or white but there are many view points on pretty much every subject. I was born in Wrocław, Poland but feel the treatment the German population of Breslau after the war was very unfair. Does that make me a peo-German Nazi? I simply think that often the truth is somewhere in between. Also, it's perfectly ok to agree to disagree.

Yet that’s exactly what the Jews in US do by spreading the Polak Jokes. Funny how one is considered distasteful and the other just a joke. Imagine that.

Stop perpetuating that nonsense.

Polak jokes are NOT as common as you think (unless you're hyper sensitive).

Those jokes started looong before WWII and had nothing to do with Jews. East Europeans (at the time most of them were from Polish areas) were the first group of immigrants to America who spoke no English whatsoever. Most immigrants of the past had some relatives in the US and picked up some English fairly quickly. Then a large group of Poles (and Ukrainians, Russians, etc.) came and often when looking for jobs they'd say "I'm Polak, no English". The locals soon started poking fun of them and thus the Polak joke was born. I read about it in Chicago many moons ago, I read it in a Polish local newspaper in a Polish restaurant that brought up the subject, a tiny "did you know? - comment that no one paid any attention to because it's such a non-issue. Hardly a "pro-Jewish establishment."

Of course, it probably makes you feel better to blame the Jews for it and for so many other things... In fact, I heard the reason the Polish grammar is so complicated is because the Jews messed it all up... Oh, and Panorama Racławicka in reality depicts Poles slaughtering the Jews... The Jews also faked the moon landing, the guards in concentration camps were all Jews and Hitler only pretended to hate them as in reality "Third Reich" when translated from German to Hebrew to Yiddish and finally to Aramaic and read backwards means "Third Masada."

Those pesky jewsky...

Your comments remind me of "conversations" (he yelled, we listened) we had with a neighbour of ours when I still lived in Sweden. He was a leader of a local VAM unit - Vitt Ariskt Motstånd (White Aryan Resistance). He talked but also looked like a short hair thug. Was that you Hans???

Visa Waiver Program

Duh?, of course.

Strengthen the borders and deport illegals. Put our neighbors through the south through the exact same visa process as everyone else. The majority of the people who are illegal here came in through a legal route. WTF are we spending all that border control money on?

Agree 100%

Reps like illegals because they're "cheap" to the business owners. Of course the states pay when they get sick, commit crimes, etc. Dems want illegals because over 90% of mexicans vote Dem (according to la raza). In Georgia for example you cannot be asked for a picture ID when voting because that might be "discriminatory to the minorities" (GA supreme court ruling) so all you need is copies of bills paid in the state of Georgia. You think Acorn used that loophole? There are many other states with similar rules. ACLU has run amok.

Perhaps you are correct, jews no longer spread Polak jokes, they are just being outright liars, obnoxious and willing to use any trick up their sleeve to demean Poles without even trying to be funny.

SHT - I am so glad you are not French because if you were you'd have died of a heart attack long time ago if silly jokes bother you so much. If there's one nationality that ALWAYS gets made fun of in the US it'd be the French. Very often it's pretty innocent stuff but still - French are the true "victims" in this despicable "joke-gate"! ;)

"French - the only military with rear-view mirrors on their tanks."

Q: What's the motto of the US Marine Corps?
A: Semper Fi (Always Faithful)
Q: What's the motto of the French Army?
A: Stop, drop, and run!

Q: How do you confuse a French Soldier?
A: Give him a rifle and ask him to shoot it.

Q. How many Frenchmen does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A. One, because he holds the bulb and all of Europe revolves around him

"I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me." --- well, not a joke but quote by General George S. Patton

Q: How do you get a French waiter's attention?
A: Start ordering in German.

What do you call a Frenchman advancing on Baghdad? A salesman

Feel better? LOL

Seriously, I've lived in the States for quite some time and it's extremely rare to hear "polak jokes" whether on the East or West coast.

Your vicious Jew hate is just sad, hope one day you'll be able to free your mind and see people for who they really are - people.

The New York Times is a good example of a Left-Wing Anti-Polish hate newspaper. I would say 7 out of 10 times when ever the New York Times does an article on Poland its critical of Poland or if it complements Poland, its a back handed complement.

Interesting - have you noticed that The New York Times is even more anti-American than it is anti-Polish? Yes it is very leftist and that's why many call it Pravda of the East Coast. If you find an anti-Polish comment there somewhere usually it's because Poland might have somehow helped the NYT's biggest enemy of them all - the United States. (Yes, I'm generalizing and they do have some very good articles too.)

I read it every day by the way just to see how the enemy thinks. (Yeah, I also read Cosmo LOL)

History / Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Serbia- segmented. Who is next? Poland? [90]

Crow, people are divided and the government has taken their stand. The Czech and Polish governments recognised Kosovo and people have mixed allegiances.

I agree but the mass murders committed by Serbs (I know, it's all propaganda Crow isn't it? ;) didn't help the Serb cause. ALL sides were guilty of attrocities but the Serbs took the price due to the size of the former Yugoslav army, a primarily pro-Serbian entity.

Yugoslavia was a "fake" country to begin with created by the Western powers after WWI. Better divorce than a bad and an abusive marriage.

The abuse of the Kosovo minority was plain stupid. Had the Serbs tried to grant them more autonomy and respected their basic right (in reality and NOT in words and empty declarations) Kosovo would still be part of Serbia today. I'm no fan of Kosovo Muslim fanatics and they too committed many crimes against the Serbs but instead of being smart Serbs chose to rely on Russia and said "all or nothing." Well, they got nothing in the end. Heck, even Montenegrins got fed up with the Serbs.

I doubt Poland needs to fear losing Śląsk however maybe Vojvodina will follow Montenegro in the future? Hopefully your countrymen and women have learned from past mistakes...

USA, Canada / Are you a US citizen? Test for Americans. [67]

...
"I just wonder if an average (again - no offense meant) American has got access to the same information as I do. You know - by watching TV, reading newspapers etc. My questions are not intended to blame anyone or something. I just have got this strange feeling that the Americans and the rest of the world are not living on the same planet.

I'll bite...

Reading some of your past post I can tell you're well versed and full of opinions on the US (and many other subjects which is great)... I guess the russkis would classify you as "inteligentia" but of course, they'd probably shoot you in the back of your head way back when but that's a different story. I also know that you have Dr. Mengele Syndrome - somehow you think your race (in this case nationality) is better than the rest of the world and immune to the plague of racism. Other nationalities? Sure, Germans, Brits, Americans, French, etc. can all be racist but Poles simply cannot. The catholic religion and our history makes it impossible... (I say our because I too am born in Poland) You think Americans live on an another planet? Yeah right, look in the mirror Mr. Perfectski... (or Ms. Perfectska ;)

1) Ring leader? what do you mean? I know he's my President and my Commander -in-Chief, is that what you're alluding to?

2) You sure he was trained by CIA and not by KGB? I'm sorry, I mean FSB. IF CIA "trained" him they surely screwed up majorly as he turned out to be the biggest lefty prez "CIA has ever trained". LOL

3) Well, I've had the privilege of having flown in supplies to our unit there three times in the last 5 years. It's a tiny place, hard or rather tight approach (due to the proximity of the Cuban airspace) and the "poor terrorists" are getting fatter by the hour.

4) So have the Spanish and the French. There was also a large German influence who at one point pretty much controlled the commerce on Haiti. What's your point?

5) Yes and no. Mujahedin were holy warriors supported by the US (and other western governments). Many were Afghans but even more came from other Muslim lands and their main goal was to free Afghanistan from the Soviet occupation, in other words they viewed themselves as freedom fighters who also happened to have the blessing of their religion - thus holy warriors - mujahedin.

Taliban (or Taleban) is a primarily religious movement and the majority of them are Afghanis and Pakistanis (especially influential in the Pashtun tribe).

For a long time the two groups (or rather the many groups as they're splintered in many tribal sections) fought a very bloddy battle. In fact, one of their best mujahedin commanders Ahmad Massod who was strikingly pro-western rightfully predicted that unless the West got rid of the Taliban and stopped the Taliban brainwash of young men sooner or later they'd turn their swords toward the West.

He tried to get help from Europeans and from Americans - his attempts were futile...

This is an excerpt from his speech to the European Parliament on April 6th, 2001 (less than 6 months from the 9/11 attack!)

April 6, 2001: Rebel Leader Warns Europe and US About Large-Scale Imminent Al-Qaeda Attacks

Ahmed Shah Massoud speaking before European Parliament. [Source: Robert Sanchez/ Black Star]
Ahmed Shah Massoud, leader of the Northern Alliance fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan, has been trying to get aid from the US but his people are only allowed to meet with low level US officials. In an attempt to get his message across, he addresses the European Parliament: "If President Bush doesn't help us, these terrorists will damage the US and Europe very soon." [DAWN (KARACHI), 4/7/2001; TIME, 8/4/2002] A classified US intelligence document states, "Massoud's intelligence staff is aware that the attack against the US will be on a scale larger than the 1998 embassy bombings, which killed over two hundred people and injured thousands (see 10:35-10:39 a.m., August 7, 1998)." [DEFENSE INTELLIGENCE AGENCY, 11/21/2001 ] Massoud also meets privately with some CIA officials while in Europe. He tells them that his guerrilla war against the Taliban is faltering and unless the US gives a significant amount of aid, the Taliban will conquer all of Afghanistan. No more aid is forthcoming. [WASHINGTON POST].

If we'd only listened, however to many "bean counters" at the State Department felt supporting Masood was a waste of money as Taliban would win the civil war no matter what. Osama feared Masood and his gaining popularity amongst the Afghans and 2 days before 9/11 arranged for 2 fake reporters to interview Masood. He would plead for more help from the West however the cameramen had explosives hidden in their equipment and Masood was killed.

Somewhat related - the widow to one of the assassins remarried to another jihadist...

Today Taliban and Mujahedin often work together however it's a "your enemy is my enemy" type of brotherhood. We (the US) screwed up in a great detail when we abandoned the mujahedin after their win over the Soviets. Wilson rightfully predicted it was a big mistake and that we needed to build schools and hospitals there to help them recover from the Russki occupation. Short term gains of saving money prevailed in Pentagon and just like Wilson predicted - they turned against us.

A good friend of mine (and a neighbor) is retired from the CIA and he said the movie was fairly accurate although they exaggerated Wilson's extravagance in the movie. Either way, good movie and a great history lesson too.

More importantly - what's your point? ...or what's your beef as I'm sure there's a reason to your diatribe...

Yes, Skysoulmate, many of the old Polish jokes in this country (USA), have now become either redneck jokes or blonde jokes. I happen to be blessed by being a both a blonde and have Polish ancestry.

I agree. Even though redneck jokes are pretty "regional" too. New Yorkers and other yankees love those jokes but you don't hear them often in Georgia, Alabama, etc.

To me jokes are just jokes. Some can be distasteful and even disgusting but to look for a conspiracy is just silly. I've always heard Arabs are the kings (or sultans?) of conspiracy theories but I wonder if the Polish might actually excel in that arena? LOL

If you were born in America you are American. You are not Polish.

Agree. You're American of Polish, Swedish, etc ancestry. When it comes to races, American with black heritage, etc. I hate the "African-American" nonsense. American should always come first and then you can "fill in the blanks" if you want.

Additionally, I view myself as an American by choice. I wasn't born in the US but am now a citizen thus I'm an American.

News / Did you know that Polish army is the weakest in Central Europe?.. [150]

You mean like these antique C-130's Poland "got" from the US?

These "antique" C130s are doing a great job in the US, Canada, Sweden, and many other countries. Most of them have been upgraded throughout the years and the latest J series use state of the art cockpit instrumentation. Don't know which series Poland got but don't discount a great airplane simply because it's been around for a while.

It makes many of us here in the U.S. sick to see how he has turned his back on Poland. I agree however that Poland should build up it's military.

Agree to all of the above.
