USA, Canada / If you moved from US to Poland, could you please share your experience? [16]

You never know what's going to work, Harry, or why servers have an attitude. Maybe, they think that no matter what they do, they'll still get the same sh!tty tip? Sometimes I tip at the beginning of the service. That work especially well with the bartenders..

Life / Handshaking protocols in Poland? [4]

When I first got to US, I was taken aback by all the women that insisted on hugging, even though we hardly knew each other. Hugs in Poland were reserved for family and close friends.

For the globetrotters: interesting handshaking protocols from around the world. Do you agree?

Law / I do not have parental responsibility for my Polish daughter. Am I obligated to pay child support? [30]

f stop, given that you clearly know nothing about Polish law, perhaps you might like to stop giving advice?

how about you give your advice, and I give mine, and we each will stop whenever the fvck we choose to??

All right, he pushed a wrong button..
The real question is: does he start throwing the money at the lawyers now, or does he wait for legal action from the mother? He has no idea what has happened in the last 10 years. The child could have been adopted 3 times over. That said,

Harry, as much as I applaud your efforts trying to stomp on racists and anti semites here, you're no more qualified to offer legal advice than I am. To give extreme example of relinquishing parental obligations, I'm sure sperm donors are not obligated to child support, not even in Poland. Most reasonable courts will allow mother to relive the father of parental obligations, if he was no more than a sperm donor, did not want children, she's more than capable of supporting the child, or doesn't want to chase him around when she wants her new husband to adopt the child, etc. etc, the OP says he has one of those papers.

Interestingly, there is a movement, albeit not very popular, that in order for fathers to be responsible for their children, they should be given the same choices at the beginning of pregnancy that mothers have: abortion, adoption or keeping the baby.

So remember Harry, this is a discussion forum, you can offer your own opinions and supporting arguments, but then so can everyone else; right or wrong.

Law / I do not have parental responsibility for my Polish daughter. Am I obligated to pay child support? [30]

unless a court removes it from you, you loser.

and there is no need to be rude and unpleasant is there?

I assume you're talking to yourself

I have signed my rights of my daughter over to my ex polish wife who subsequently moved her to spain 10 years ago

that sounds like termination of parental rights. AGAIN, if this was granted, your resposibilities, legaly, are finished. It's as if a child was adopted by someone else.

If you have doubts, dig up your papers and show it to a lawyer.
Or save your money and just wait until you receive any legal documents about the child support, which I doubt you will, and then get a lawyer.

Law / I do not have parental responsibility for my Polish daughter. Am I obligated to pay child support? [30]

Termination of parental right is usually done if there are plans for someone else to adopt the child.
It cannot be reversed unless the non-custodial parent, that means you donnakai, petitions for it.
If all the papers were done correctly, and Polish law is not freakishly different in this regard, then you have nothing to worry about.
You are not under any legal financial obligation, especially not any back child support.

Food / Are eggs in Poland refrigerated/not refrigerated? [33]

I doubt it, salmonella is like death, I know I had it. Never felt as bad before or since.

actually, in US less than 1 in 3 salmonella cases are reported or diagnosed. There are over 2000 different strains of salmonella. I believe I've had it few times, most after succumbing to the desire of eating street vendors' food, few abroad.

After E. Coli, salmonella is very common cause of travelers' diarrhea. Some symptoms last a day or two, others have much harder time with it.

Food / Are eggs in Poland refrigerated/not refrigerated? [33]

I think an average person gets salmonella poisoning much more often then we think. I bet most of the cases of what we call stomach virus may be salmonella related.

About dozen times each year we hear the warnings to avoid particular foods, like cantaloupes, lettuce, pine nuts or cucumbers. Aflalfa sprouts keep popping up as a culprit.

Real ceasar dressing (because it calls for raw egg) has been banned in restaurants!
Since salmonella is easily killed with high temperature, we are inundated with warnings about undercooked food.
In certain southern countries, you cannot get meat any other way but well done, no matter how much you beg.

But, with so many vegetables becoming carriers, it would behoove us to hurry up with human vaccine.

I was just trying to decide if I should refrigerate my eggs or not, and since there is no way of knowing how long they've been on the store's shelf, I'll keep refrigerating mine.

Here is more info on refrigerated eggs. But it's important to keep in mind that the strain of salmonella in Europe that killed a bunch of chickens and caused the UK vaccinations has not reached US. Yet.

Food / Are eggs in Poland refrigerated/not refrigerated? [33]

Is this true? Are eggs in Poland not refrigerated as well?

Go to buy eggs in Britain, France or Italy and you'll find them sitting on an unrefrigerated shelf, often near the baking supplies in an aisle in the middle of the store. Head to an American supermarket however, and eggs are always held in refrigerated units, like milk and cheese and other dairy products.

UK, Ireland / Mentally ill people in British society [55]

but if they constantly shout at people or randomly yell stuff out in public areas, that is hard to ignore.

Children must bother you too, huh?.

I much prefer the idea of the town idiots roaming around rather then the possibility that they're chained and mistreated in somewhere out of sight.\

Keep in mind that mental illness is my retirement plan. ;)

"What if they're dangerous" argument is a cop out. Dangerous ones are supposed to be locked up. Plus, really dangerous ones act more normal.

But really, this puzzles me.. why are we so uncomfortable around mentally ill?

Interesting... Do you feel equally uncomfortable around people with other handicaps, like blind, or people in wheelchairs? I mean, it's not "normal" either. Why only town idiots should be hidden out of sight?

USA, Canada / Returning to Poland! Has anyone seen this influx of people from the US? [27]

Chrisb: Are you sure they are not moving to other places in the US?
I tried Chicago, New York, Miami, before I gave up on big metropolitan areas. As poverty increases, many urban centers in US (and in other countries as well) are getting more depressed, dangerous, crime ridden, and unhappy. Many Poles moved out of Chicago to other parts in the US.

Get the hell out of Chicago! There are many friendly, happy and warm (yes!) places right here in the US.
