Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

One of the ultimate, almost forbidden and worse swear words are: motyla noga and kurcze pioro. Most vulgar you cannot be. Used by enlighted people too.

Law / Vehicle insurance in Poland for a british driving license holder [3]

You can leave your contacts online, and then they'll call you and send you the documents to sign. That's the least involving way. BUT not the cheapest... there's 2-3 companies that have almost always the cheapest rates and they don't do it over the Internet.

Life / Electricity bill 1400zlt 5 months. [18]

Get a technician from your electricity provider to make inspection if there's no "borrowing";) or anything. Inspection should be free. Also maybe you like to walk around the house only in a T-shirt but put the heating up in the same time. If you did it last winter to maintain 22 Celsius or more - and maybe have old/inefficient heater - here's the reason for high amount to pay

Why using any lights when you can

- give short horn signals outside built-up areas while passing or overtaking other vehicles;

Life / Anyone else suffering from mosquito bites in Poland? [52]

I'm actually quite allergic to mozzies

It seems quite a big allergy you developped. Try useing histamine blockers like SveniPolen suggested - but not cetirizine dichloride as it can have side effects, like you may not be able to drive or be sleepy. 10mg loratatadinum should work plus at least 1000mg calcium although your allergy seems harsh so a doctor should give you something special. I myself noticed that mosquitos do not bite that much when you drink alcohol, and not at all when smoking a... pipe.

It's an annual thing, every summer they do this I think.

Life / What is the Cheapest way to send money FROM POLAND to INDIA ? [23]

Why not use a normal bank transfer? Isn't this cheaper than Western Union?

Bank transfer charge from a Polish bank costs between 0.25% and 1% of the amount, or in other banks it's fixed fee of 65PLN or in other between 20PLN and 200PLN depending on the amount.

Law / Business Etiquette (Polish companies' dealings with clients in other counties) [14]

in Poland it's more: Czesiek! Tell Jadzka we're in! - horrible...

- I honestly don't know such a company even having a lot of business meetings.

I'd say completly the oposite. The dialog you mention could only happen to a) an environment in which there's no/almost no business culture and b) with business partners that know each other very well and are on good terms.

In addition I remind that in Polish language there is this form used usually Pan/Pani so it creates more distance, kinda like in Germany.

It is the Western culture that imposes direct addressing and familiarizing personal relations.

Life / Small change in shops in Poland!? [95]

Trevek
I guess we all sometimes comply to this really stupid lack of sense - it is in the shop's interest to give you change and not your problem. In these cases I sometimes wait for them giving mie the exact change. Another thing is that they all are trying to make morons of clients by having prices like: 19.99 10.98. That is how they loose the small penny.

Life / Small change in shops in Poland!? [95]

I would suggest to produce coins and banknotes with .99 value, e.g. 10.99 etc. - THAT would help :D

Life / WHY DO POLES USE ENGLISH WORDS IN CONVERSATION? [396]

I completly understand your frustration with it, Rychlik. These words are flooding and replacing native language easily, as everyone of us would use from time to time word jogging instead of biegać, etc...

Life / WHY DO POLES USE ENGLISH WORDS IN CONVERSATION? [396]

Yep. Pretty much, ha ha. - Or if you come from a province or speak a dialect of some kind;). Skåne being an example - hard to understand and sounds funny everywhere outside Skåne län region.

Real Estate / Relocating in Poland - what's the best area? [56]

As far as work and social life is cooncerned, it'd be Kraków, Poznań, and well, Warzsawa. But personally I think there's no good life in Warsaw, as there is in Kraków. Pretty much the same options there, plus great atmosphere and history in the first two ones. So choosing either of the two you'd actually have West or South as you wanted, Mr. Wroclaw Boy;)

And if you pay with your card on the A4 motorway - you are not protected at all! No PIN, no signature. And they always need to take away your card from your sight - totally unacceptable!

Real Estate / Relocating in Poland - what's the best area? [56]

Yes, Piła can be all right, though it is smaller (can be an advantage, of course, depending what you like). Is the deer statue on the building still there?

Food / Buying alcohol, wine in Poland. It's very difficult. [79]

Seanus, I'd say that buying Carlo Rossi you know what to expect, the wine is worth the price and safe choice; but it is at the same time nothing you canbe surprised of and why not try somethig thrilling;)

I'd take responsibility over these:
Casillero del Diablo
Trapiche
Gato /Gato nero

Real Estate / Relocating in Poland - what's the best area? [56]

I wouldn't say it's dead. It's rather... switched to "holiday or summer mode' ;)
There's still plenty of places to go not all closing down, at 2 o'clock it would be enough for me, it's a pub right? But for all-night clubbing go to a club - last Saturday me at Eskulap prooves that you might have just gone to the wrong place if you were looking for all night party;)

cheers

Casillero del Diablo is

Chilean

, all three are from the New World if I recall correctly.
But you prefer softer rather than "bloody dry" ones? Than Carlo Rossi fits. I am always looking for dry, maybehere's the difference in choice...

In Most of places (careffour example)

- maybe go to a proper wine shop, you can touch the bottles and get expertise on most of them. After you create your fav. selection, it'l be easier to pick up the ones you want in a supermarket.

Travel / Internet for 1 month in Kraków? [11]

In GH Net and I think Aster too you can get a contract for an indefinite period too, but it is more expensive. My advice is to check smaller, local providers - I use one and I have indefinite period contract. Which area you are going to be?

Tough nut - I don't know about Azory, but maybe GH Net is already there. Check their website or call them and they can tell you if they provide basing on the adress you tell them...
