Hey everyone.
I need your advise.
I have had an electricity for 1380zlt for 5 months, From Jan till end of May.
I have gas heating and used it for the winter.

I do have a electric heater what i haven't used so much.

We have had someone round to look at the meter and he says it needs rewiring and new fuses. But it wouldn't have made us pay more. The landlord says we have to pay or we will lose our deposit.

What can we do about it? Please help me out.

Seems about right to me, it was a bitter cold winter, maybe you used the electric heater a bit more than you realised. You have a TV right? computer, kettle etc..

It sounds like the normal rate for it, you just have to pay it I guess.

Sounds expensive to me.

How big is your place? Is it insulated?

I pay on average 50/60 Zloty per person a month. I have double glazing and lowered the ceilings, energy efficient lights, a south facing wall that is mainly glass and new electrics (inc fuse-board).

I used to get bills of 800 zloty per month , maybe more,,,in an old farm that has no cooker , no tv and low energy bulbs...it got a whole lot better when i had the energa bandits rip out the old meter and put a digital one in....

2 rooms, saving bulbs, computer. only around 40m2.

If you say it's right then i must pay.
just something deep down says it's not right.

Get a new fuse box, they aren't that expensive.

You must have a flat full of cannabis plants to have a bill that high, my combined gas and electric bill is less than that over here!!! :)

I know Manc. When i was in Manc land i use to pay the much for everything for 5 months.

maybe i should grow the plants. it will pay for the high bill.

My bills were so high i was convinced the whole village was connected to my meter...i tried switching the power off at the mains one day to see if the village went dark....

Since having a new digital meter in they have been much more reasonable....

I think it's not right. Either the meter may not be operating properly or someone else apart from you may be connected to it. Try to check the meter when every electric device at your flat is switched off.

There should be something wrong I paid less than 400 for ZL for 6 months. And my PC is open all the time.

Ziemowit i will try that. It could be a good idea.

I wouldn't have minded 700zlt. i knowthat would have been high and i would have paid it st8 away. But nearly 1400zlt is unreal.

That is definitley too high. 40m2, gas heating, engery saving bulbs, good about keeping the lights off, etc. I estimate about 300 - 400zl over Jan - May period.

But, if you do a good bit of cooking with an electric cooker you can add a couple hundred zloty to that.

AND, if you have a 3 KW electric heater that you use for 3-4 hours a day you can add 700 - 800zl to that. And if you don't have Tarif II night electricity, well add several hundred more. So in a situation like this you could see 2000zl.

I agree with Ziemowit's advice. Turn off (unplug) everything for 30 minutes and see if the meter keeps moving.

Have you see the actual invoice for the electricity? What was the meter reading at the beginning of January, and what is it now?

And read some of the points on this thread: https://polishforums.com/real-estate/poland-options-dealing-dishonest-landlord-42375/

That seems very high to be honest with you.

Get a technician from your electricity provider to make inspection if there's no "borrowing";) or anything. Inspection should be free. Also maybe you like to walk around the house only in a T-shirt but put the heating up in the same time. If you did it last winter to maintain 22 Celsius or more - and maybe have old/inefficient heater - here's the reason for high amount to pay
