UK, Ireland / Business process outsourcing in the UK. [14]

the BIC(Brazil, India, China) area is getting a lot of outsourcing and a huge growth, however Poland is renowned for it excellent workforce and skilled professionals in many fields such as HiTech but also the absence of labour laws for manual workers( We can see construction workers on building roofs without any security, crazy) ,the cheaper costs of labour( and no strikes) encourages companies to set up plants and invest a lot in what they call "the new Europe".

News / Palikot or the Poles getting rid of the Polish society old Taboos in 2011? [30]

A Taboo beeing a a strong social prohibition (or ban) relating to any area of human activity or social custom that is sacred and forbidden based on moral judgment and religious beliefs, one can say that with 10% voters in favour of Palikot in 2011, Poles are getting rid or at least challenging the old taboos of Polish Society which are so far:

1) Refusal of Public funding for the Roman Catholic Church in Poland and henceworth challenging its omnipresent place in the society
2) Equality in terms of salaries between men and women
3)Freedom in sexual orientation(gay friendly) and transgender
4)Same- sex marriages

What else?
Is there any other taboo you can think of in Polish society?

In otherwords Poland is becoming as tolerant as Spain or the UK but given its History it is a new Revolution for Poland.

Law / Polish Citizenship, do I have to travel to Warszawa (Warsaw) to get it? [13]

(the blood line counts, not the place of birth)

Is that true ? then in this case it is a bit stupid, reminds me of the old German way: Germany changed that rule but before they used to have the "blood right" rather than the "land right" which granted a German person who had never set foot in Germany and hardly spoke good German German nationality if his ancestors were german by blood whereas someone whose both parents were English or rather Turkish but born in Germany was not granted German nationality if his/her parents did not have German blood.

News / Will you be proud of tranny (transsexual) representing Poland ? [124]

will you be proud of "Anna" when "she" will be representing Poland in Russia, US or UK ?

If Anna is a good politician i don't see why Poland should not be proud of her work. Why not?

Israel won the Eurovision contest with the transsexual artist Sharon Cohen -Dana international , most countries voted for this excellent singer andi don't think any one was ashamed of her performance.[b]

News / Poland Elections oct 2011/your feed back about RP Janusz Palikot? Poland is changing! [106]

rather to finance a lot of socially useful projects, and it is not as if the Church was getting some monies for free,

Do you agree that Poland beeing a secular Republic public funds and tax money should not go to any Religious group in Poland?
Only church goers in Poland and the Vatican and the wealthy Roman Catholic Church should pay for that , it has to be paid privately.

News / Poland Elections oct 2011/your feed back about RP Janusz Palikot? Poland is changing! [106]

The idiocy of saying that Poland is changing because 'one man and his dildo' champions certain causes is staggering.

Well Seanus I may be an idiot but if the existence itself of a party such as the RCC( i am not saying those people would have any chance to rule the country of course but as a counter power ,it is not bad) is not a change for Poland what is it then?

News / Poland Elections oct 2011/your feed back about RP Janusz Palikot? Poland is changing! [106]

Hi all,
I have the feeling that after the re election of Dnoland tusk (PO) and with the arrival of the RP party Janusz Palikot denouncing the church "mafia" and defending the rights about sexual and ethnic minority groups, Poland is politically changing fast.

I am personnaly happy about this change although i do not vote in Poland, what's your feed back about the PR?

Study / Eastern European Studies internship/ job [10]

I think that it should not be a problem to find an intership in Poland as an American student for instance in Hotels (Krakow, Warsaw) .You could either send your CV and resume to Hotel Groups in the US such as Radisson,Sheraton,Starwwood hotels etc or directly at the hotels in Poland .

Be aware that there is a big competition among students for those interships because in many european countries students have to do a 1 year intership as part of their studies ( 1 year abroad after a 2 years studying Business).

Basically they get "free workers" who on top are young and hard working so there should be plenty of opportunities .

UK, Ireland / Culture shock (my neighbours in the UK are Polish and Slovak) [88]

When we moved in our neighbours, who do not speak English well, insisted on helping and I mean insisted and then charged us,

I hope you did not give them anything because HELP is a universal concept in any language and any culture and it is FREE of any charge.

As for the "OK" reply to your" nice to meet you" just take it as a deficit in language skills rather than a lack of good manners because their level of English must be really low .

In anycase regarding the guy who asked or rather demanded "give me a cigarette" : this is abrupt and impolite, He should have said please/ prosze, if he is Polish he is rude by Polish standards or by any standard.

Work / Looking for accommodation & teaching job in KATOWICE [78]

Okay so my name is jack im 19 years old

No offense but "teaching "( singing a few songs )Polish toddlers or baby sitting them in English would be suitable but please stay away from teaching English to anyone above 5 years old.

I just can't imagine myself learning Polish with someone who cannot write Polish properly, does not have experience and just wants to be my teacher for money because he speaks his mother tongue.

Let professional teachers of English teach Poles properly and offer your services at a Pub or at a shop needing English speaking staff for instance.

News / Europeén Union will finance the 2nd Warsaw metro line. Good news. [60]

How can one take this comparison into account when applied to Polish salary ? We can say the same about rents in London and rents in Warsaw too but the cost of a metro ticket or a tram ticket costs almost 10 times less than a taxi fare in Poland !( at least in Krakow /10zl for the 20 mns shuttle and 90zl + tip with a taxi).

So i think the new metro line is a good project but i would also wish there was a fast shuttle or metro to link the Warsaw airport to the city center like in Barcelona where you just buy a metro ticket to and from the airport.

News / Poles are able to forgive their enemies - how noble. [68]

Poland was not a Communist country by choice but Communist Invaded so maybe that's why Poles tend to forgive Jaruzelski and did not send him to rot in jail like the French did with Marechal Petain. Maybe they just thought he was one of the muppets of Moscow and held no real responsability for their misfortune.

Law / Poland Carpentry Certification question .. ! [5]

I am afraid i cannot help you with the title of the Polish Carpentry Certification if there is any but i know that Polish Carpentry is one of the most famous in the world. The Carpenters who built those amazing wooden chalets in Zakopane are doing projects all over the world so maybe for you the best would be to contact the Zakopane townhall to ask them about that.

Grzegorz( Beautiful name by the way) what the heck are you talking about ?

EU is reducing competitiveness of Polish economy by things like draconian limitis on CO2 emissions, so It's damaging the real economy and create artificial one fueled on overpriced public investments. Very good... for economy analphabets...

Draconian limits on C02 emissions is bad? Do you still want to show your great grand children the beautiful Bialoweza forest , the Beskids etc ?
Coal is the Number 1 energy used in Poland and it is extremely polluting and damaging for Human beeings,Natural sites and even historic buildings.

A clean energy is not real Economy? Eu is reducing competitivness of Polish economy by partly financing your local transportations? lol

Food / Orange Roughy in Krakow? [9]

On Wikipedia they tell us the most common fish in the Baltic Sea and the problem of the alga /bacteria coming from agricutural waste ( under the Biology section of the article)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_Sea
Apparently there isTurbot in the Baltic Sea which is a delicious fish ( never had it in Poland), BLS if you have a crave for Orange Roughy i advise you wait until you go back to the US on holiday to have it .

The choice of Frozen Fish is also somewhat limited in LIDL supermarket you can buy plaice, cod, salmon but no orange roughy.

News / Europeén Union will finance the 2nd Warsaw metro line. Good news. [60]

It's a shame they can't (or won't) expand the rail line near the airport to actually serve the airport; an increasingly important city like this should consider this to be on its list of priorities. Even a tram link would be better.

Warsaw would indeed deserve a direct fast public transportation to and from the airport.

In Krakow the Balice shuttle was also financed by the EU and it is working extremely well , the journey is 20 mns and at a cheap rate ( about 10 zl 1 way from the airport to Glwony Dorzec the main Krakow station in the center).

News / Europeén Union will finance the 2nd Warsaw metro line. Good news. [60]

With 67.3 Billions of Euros for the period 2007-2013 Poland is the country in Europe which benefits the most from the European Union structural Funds.

Who is paying ? the European Union is.

The Warsaw metro will be half financed by Polish taxes I assume.

If it is a public service like in Paris France not like in London UK it means that all of Poland will finance the Capital 's metro even cities which will not have any metro lines.

I think it is money well spent because our cities in Europe have to develop public transportations to avoid traffic jams, car pollution etc.

News / Europeén Union will finance the 2nd Warsaw metro line. Good news. [60]

More improvements scheduled for the Capital of Poland!

The EU is to finance some 2.77 billion zloty (619 million euro) of the construction of the 2nd line of the Warsaw metro /Tube/Subway, almost 50 percent of the 5.92 billion zloty pricetag of the entire investment.

The first line took 25 years to be completed and this one will be done by 2014 the medias say.

The line will go from West (Wola)to East(Praga), less than 7 kilometers which makes the cost of the kilometer one of the most expensive in Europe.

If there are any Anti European Union Polish people i am curious to know what they have to say and curious to know too if people are looking forward to this new metro line and why.

Real Estate / Can a Non-European buy house in Poland? [14]

yes of course you can buy your friend's house in Lodz( Agricultural land and historic buildings are protected but individual flats or houses are for sale for anyone who wants to buy them!) but Lodz is not Krakow or Zakopane. Do you want a holiday house or a permanent house?

Real Estate / Cost to build in Eastern Poland - Ideally per m2 [71]

Good question, the cost of this project over 6 years must be at least 20% more but since Teflcat and his wife built from scratch the psychological reward is enormous.

But apparently he does not want to do it again, even as a consultant !

My friend who built her house had the same experience of going back and forth all the time dealing with details: from her work to the house site, from her flat to the house site, adding more money for this and that, changing this and that, meeting plumbers painters electricians etc beeing asked to make decisions which were a headache, the whole thing was horribly time -and energy- consuming.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

doesn't mean the others don't exist.

Rozumiemnic I am not saying that Racists do not exist in Poland because you have idiots everywhere on earth but to always have Poland associated with Racism and Antisemitism is wrong.

There are millions of Poles outside Poland living and working all over the world in different cutures.Do we hear that the Polish Community in Chicago US is racist? No.

Do we hear that the Polish communities in Germany France UK Dubai etc are racist ?No.
Were or are those famous Poles: Ryszard Kapucinski, Kieslowski ,Zulawsk etc racist or antisemitic? No

Yet we keep hearing about Poland beeing xenophobic as if all the Poles were that way and the question of the first post speaks for itself: Racism in Poland-The Future.

So yes there are racists in Poland but they are not the majority and if it was forbidden in the Polish Constitution to publicly express racism in any form against any ethnic group or to express ethno centrism publicly it would eradicate the association: Poland equals Racism and Antisemitism.

Food / Orange Roughy in Krakow? [9]

Well to be honest with you , Krakow is not the place for Fish,it is too far from the Ocean.
When you are asking" is it popular in Europe"?Europe is Big And Diverse! Germany is Germany Spain is Spain Norway is Nrway Poland is Poland and we are all different and don't know what everybody eats or like.

Poland does not have a huge choice in terms of fish from my experience , the Baltic sea is very polluted and too cold to have a wide variety of fish species.

Fishmongers are scarce, there is a kiosk on Starolwilsna looking like a stara babcia place , it has a few herrings and salmon ,"the sausage of the sea".

The biggest choice for fresh fish i found is at Alma Supermarket , i can buy Salmon( but no doubt it is not Wild Salmon like in Alaska!) Sole sometimes, maquerel, and herring .+ carp and trouts but no halibut, no snapper and no sea food!

BLS i found this website selling food and your favourite fish, maybe you can order it on line.

News / Has there been an influx of Polish people into Germany? [21]

English trades people not caring to show up for appointed work, delaying the jobs on end, charging serious buck for jobs and in all that being able to spend half their time in England and half on Spanish vacations -

Yes absolutely, it is the story of the Ant and the Grasshoper.

How would you feel if there was an influx of nearly 1 million low payed working class Brits to Poland within a space of 2 years?

Given the Polish growth maybe it will happen one day ! We ll see the Polish workers behaving like primadonas and wealthy enough not to want to do the dirty jobs, you might be among the 1 million low payed working class brits happy to find work in Poland! Lol
